Silicon Knights: The Dyack Agenda

I wonder if there is any chance that Konami was impressed by SK's work and wanted to make use of them more often... perhaps SK is a Konami developer now.

Guys, SK is exactly what they said they were -- an independent developer free to work with any publisher they choose. No conspiracy theories to unravel -- it's just not yet time for them to announce any projects. Expect lots more about this in February or so.

Nintendo's pretty ruthless in dumping 2nd parties to the curb if they don't deliver on expectations.

its called business. I'm not going to bother with what I think about SK.

ED did'nt sell, but I hardly think SK is to blame.
IAWTP

I guess it was Clover's fault Viewtiful Joe 2 didn't sell either, or Kojima's own fault Zone of The Enders 2 sold poorly. This can be twisted how you want. It still doesn't change the fact that the publisher needs to promote the game properly. I don't think Nintendo did that with ED.

Somebody said on another board that the SK staff all voted against continuing work on Too Human because the game just wasnt fun. Apparently Dyack insists on continuing development.

Hmmm? How trustworthy are you? :)

It's right, or isn't it? :lol

What board was that? I can see why Denis wants to continue with the project. Isn't it like a dream project for him? It seems a little strange to scrap a game that's been in development for ~4-5 years. I mean all those years for what? Nothing :S

I found the post, it was on beyond3d (which is reliable) not on gaming-age as I was thinking.

They (SK) are probably working on Too human. I occasionally hear tidbits on what they are doing since they are about an 1 hour 30 minute drive from where I'm located (for some reason I always thought St Catherines was north of my location but it's between Oakville and Buffalo).

Too human has been in development for ages, and I heard Denis asked his employees to vote on if they should keep developing it, or abandon it for somehting new. From what I've heard they all voted to abandon it as the game just wasn't any fun, but Denis decided to keep working on it as it seems the game is his baby. If they do it, it will probably be for all platforms. it'd make sense since he could bring in the most money that way. I also heard they had a nintendo enforced hiring freeze about two months back... I'm sure he didn't like that after loosing some people to rockstar toronto...

That quote scares me, I hope Too Human will be fun, but at the beginning of development they weren't that experienced.

What exactly does that mean?

I asked someone and he said it means, that they asked them to stop recruiting. Right?

Use this handy formula:

# of people + time taken on project + wages + number of projects released - actual game sales = Worth holding on to you or not.

I call this my, "Should Nintendo keep you as a second party" equation

Rare and SK both fail.

Code:
Initiate game production;
viabilitiy = number of projects released * (# of people * (time taken on project * wages)) - game generated revenue;
if (viability == great) {
            goto 1
} else {
            chunk that bitch
}

If Konami doesn't help them, i want nothing to do with their next game
I'd actually be surprised if Konami didn't want some PS2/PC/Xbox ports of TTS. Could Nintendo funding R&D prevent ports (didn't stop Capcom from porting Code:Veronica all over the place)?

I'd love a TTS PS2 port. Then I'd have all the MGS titles for the PS2, which would be nice :)
