Sims 4 Build Mode, or, wow the Sims creation tools are pretty damn good

House building is much better and one of my favorite part of the game. I am waiting to see more about ai, behavior, careers, and other stuff your sims can do, before I decide it I jump in during it's first sale or day 1. I hope they have a optional online mode were you can open a neighborhood to other or choose invite only would be crazy fun to see a gaf city. They really need to tidy up performance at times, I guess it is worse with more expansions, it can have some nasty slowdown.

Yeah, I think with Ambitions (or Generations) they started adding some of the major gameplay features to the base game. I can't remember all of them but I remember Tatoos, Blueprint mode, the Attraction System, and the ability to swim in the ocean being added to the base game.

Ah. Yes, thanks. Those are definitely some of them.

I really want them to use some of the persistent online ideas from SimCity but not force it. E.g an online town which you can invite your friends to, and build your house / explore in real time. It just needs to be an option. I want to be able to visit my friends and see their creations, it'd make playing the game properly even more appealing - making me want to get a good job and money to almost show off my house.

This is a good point. That would be nice.

My guess is that this is in reference to the super close up angles of things like a character playing piano, or everyone sitting around a dinner table.

As far as I know, you don't really get that definitive level of camera control within game, so it wouldn't represent actual game play.

You can zoom in that far in these games, if that's what you're talking about (from Sims 3):

If not that, then maybe one of the wallpapers is DLC or something like that.

Artstyle. Check.
Create a sims. Check.
Sims Building. Check.

Now please please please give us back the difficulty of Sims 2 with the satisfaction of relationships and an even deeper, more complex interactions between sims that TS3 failed so hard at.

I can't quite place my finger on it but despite being confined to your home the sims 2 was infinitely more enjoyable than TS3. Didn't help that the artstyle was superior as well.

I'm getting way to hyped for this.

And then combine the two without bathrooms or doors and lots and lots of heat sources.

Ah man, install a crazy fire mod and just watch the game collapse on itself as a small kitchen fire turns your entire house into hell.

What this game needs to make it goat is to buff fire where it can burn and ENTIRE house including multi-leveled houses. No longer is the second floor your sanctuary you peons!

Probably the fact that The Sims 3 runs like complete shit even on very high-end rigs. Fortunately it seems that the people responsible for that game being such a mess are long gone now.

Awesome. I pretty much use the Sims as a home creation tool. Do we know if apartment buildings are still in or if they made them easier to make?

This is the main reasons I liked the Sims games. From the first magazine preview of Sims 1, building a house, which was pretty interesting back then (user creations in games), was addicting. It's like I was messing around with a easy mode CAD app.

If this is the same as Sims 3 then it can die a slow and painful death.

Sims 3 was the most unoptimized Sims game ever released, not to mention that it had clunky tools (looks better in this one though) and they cut a lot of content and released it as DLC later on (it wasn't even close to feature parity with the Sims 2 in terms of building stuff & gameplay features).

The Sims on playstation was one of my favorite co-op experiences. While I love that there's no online requirement I hope I can visit a friends town or house with social features (call me a heretic, I know). These videos look great; all aboard the hype train.

As others have stated, you kinda can in Sims 2 and 3 which puzzles me

I noticed the "not representative" notice on stuff like the fancy animations for the traits that clearly weren't gameplay.

Most of the time those notices are for minor elements of the interface or animations that may change. They're usually not indicative of Dark-Souls-2-level downgradeathons.

Wow, the new build mode looks fantastic.
I used to play a ton of The Sims 1 & 2 back in the day but (at least at launch, probably better now with all the DLC/expansions) TS3 felt like a step back from 2 in some respects. As such I never really bothered with 3. Looking forward to seeing more of this one though.

Wow. That looks kind of brilliant. I was a huge Sims 2 player, but I think like most, I was pretty disappointed with The Sims 3. They made some great changes, but ended up releasing what felt like an unfinished game. A whole lot of promising ideas that were never fully fleshed out. But just looking at these two videos really makes me optimistic. Everyone wants more customization for Sims and Houses, but having to navigate hundreds of sliders was a pain in the ass. If they recognized that problem and worked to fix it, that makes me hopeful that they're working on other problems, too. Can't wait for this now.

I think a hefty supply of DLC is to be expected, but what is most important is whether the base game feels expansive enough to be worth the money.

As long as the game feels worth the money, DLC can just be ignored and we can enjoy the game as is.

That's exactly the point.

The Sims 2 had plenty of expansions pack, but the base game at least felt somewhat substantial.

With The Sims 3 they pushed too far, and it felt like the (great) backbone of a new Sims game, but with barely any content to play with.
In terms of furniture, activity objects, hairstyles and clothing... then they pushed it too far with a gazilion different "mini packs" that were absurdly overpriced, some that included but a couple of hair styles or a couple of furniture objects.

I love the series, but i think it deserves much, much better than to be treated as a cash cow, because the base idea is incredibly unique, with a ton of potential for improvements, and i'd hate to see it die due to this bullshit, shameless greed.

Played 1 (with my sister and cousins, with the more neighbourhood patch) to 3. But I never bought the Addons. Since 3, it feels lacking in content and with most of the Addons, it feels to overcrowded. Saw gameplay with all Addons, hooboy....

Maybe i will get it on a sale. But I would never buy it at full price again, not with the twenty 10€ to 30€ DLC coming.

Once you get a good job with a big house And some good items the game can get boring fast.

The game isn't just about reaching the top and score points.
It's about being creative with your characters/neighborhood and see them interact with each other and see the developments in that aspect, in my opinion.
Which is why the Sims comics like Chinman are so funny.

That looks wonderful.

Considering I generally just play the "creation" part of the Sims and never really the main game.

Beautiful. Just beautiful. I haven't played Sims 3 & have no idea how it is, but this Build Mod shows exactly what I really dreamed off ever since I played the first Sims game, to expand the possibilities of my imagination even further. It was limited to corners between walls and windows, but that was that much possible to do back then.

For me it's about building a massive family tree legacy.

Everything I've seen so far makes the game look superior to the previous installments in every way. I didn't like Sims 3 that much, but this looks like it's going to get its hooks in me.

My favorite way to "play" The Sims is just to setup the scenario and let the simulation and AI systems do the rest, usually using mods to increase household size. I'll build a giant facility, fill it with entities and pre-configured relationships to start with, and then just observe the chaos.

It's okay. They're fun games. Really. Frustrating, but fun.

Have we been playing the same games here? Sims 3 is notoriously bad at handling a neighborhood's worth of Sims. Like even on a modern PC, it'll just lock up for up to a minute sometimes because it decides to recalculate all the routing data at the same time. Optimized, Sims 3 is not. To the point where there's a rumor going that The Sims 4 will actually require a less powerful PC to run than The Sims 3 did.

This does look really good though. I spent so long building homes and community lots in all the Sims games. Looking forward to trying this style of Build Mode out for size.
I'm glad it wasn't just me! The Sims 3 ran like crap on my computer. If the Sims 4 runs on a lower spec'd computer, I will be very happy. That's almost too good to be true.

Quite impressive. I was going to avoid this for a while (don't like how they skimp on content for the base game, whilst making very minor improvements), but these vids have got my attention. I just hope they have a good amount of content and they optimise it to run properly.
