Since Kid Icarus is almost confirmed (or else: IGN = BS), what do you want in it?

Are there actually a ton of people excited about a game where the previous one was on the NES or the Game Boy?

Maybe if they made a good SNES sequel like they did for Metroid more people would really be interested.

NES is mad primitive and in general most of the games on that system have not held up.

I want a 3D adventure game with a haunting atmosphere.

I say "haunting" because the original was Metroid's 'twin' and the original Metroid had haunting atmosphere out the wazoo, which in turn led to the haunting atmosphere of Metroid 2, the sublime beauty of Super Metroid and of course, the almost creepy feeling of total isolation that you get in the Metroid Prime series.

I got always the same sort of vibe from Kid Icarus, but rather than being entirely alone in the bowels of an alien world as Samus was, Pit seemed to have been traversing the bowels of Hades in order to climb Mt Olympus (not the actual story, but the inspiration for the Underworld and the Sky Palace is clear). The sky, even once you got to the overworld, was never bright or sunny as it was in Mario or the Kirby games, but rather dark and ominous, much like Metroid.

Perhaps it's just me, but I always pictured Pit shining like Gandalf the White as he walked through the gloomy shadows of the Underworld. I pictured mazes and riddles like in the Greek myths and, unlike Samus who could rely on stealth or ovewhelming firepower when confronted with enemies, I pictured Pit as entirely conspicuous in the gloom and being far more vulnerable, but naturally more agile at the same time.

To be dark and gloomy, a game needn't be violent or have the same atmosphere as God of War. No, Pit has a different feel to him and if Nintendo are good at anything, it's capturing the feeling of a character and delivering them into an atmospheric world. Hell, the ending to LoZ:WW was pretty violent and it did so without breaking the cartoony atmosphere.

Very interesting point. So, at the end it should have a heavy exploration-component of a Metroid game and dark elements of Majora's Mask.
At this point, the Aonuma's team could develop it. It would be a way to stop thinking at Zeldas everytime...

If this is really in the making, I quess it's developed by Factor 5 then. :/ Simply because if it was done by EAD or some other internal Nintendo team, there would be no way IGN knew about it. Nintendo is the master of keeping secrets.

I got a vision:

It should be exactly like Legend Of Zelda... like Link's Crossbow Training to be precise. But with more Kid Icarus. And less Link. It will sell millions. Millions I tell you!

Luigi's Mansion is great and you're a chump!

Metroid Prime is great and sprocket is a chump!

Nintendo is still having Factor 5 make games for them! Chuuuumps.

God this post sucks. I mean really, what the hell is stopping you from enjoying a classic NES game, keeping in mind when it was released and the limitations of the hardware? "This game should look better than it does. I refuse to play or enjoy this. It's 2008! HELLO!"

I've never understood people who act like that about older games.

For example?

Gumshoe needs a WiiWare update.

Kid Icarus is a 2d platformer with a cute art style. Why even ask for a Kid Icarus game if you ask for idiotic stuff like 3d, machoor and epicness? If you want to play God of War, buy a PS2.

Really, seriously I don't see this turning out good.

I pretty much agree.
I mean it's going to be pretty much a game we've already seen before at one point or another.

I'm more interested in Wii Music, it's the only interesting game I can possibly think of for the Wii.

Well, if Kid Icarus is happening I would like:

- An awesome artstyle. I really liked the idea of a glowing pit in a world of darkness. But please, do not make it genericly mature, nor cartoon-ish. I want to see beauty and eerie-ness.

- Awesome flying mechanics and well designed scenarios to use them. Come on, we haven´t seen yet one single game that exploits this aspect of the wiimote properly.

- Wiimote aim for the bow. Obviously.

- More riddles and less exporation. That is just a personal preference. I just happen to hate exploration, and I think that the castles were the worst part in the game, period.

- An good plot but narrated trought interactivity instead of tons of cutscenes.

- And epicness. Kid Icarus was a darn epic game for the time, with a true sense of progression and "growing powers".

I always envisioned it being something like this

OMG, it is astounding!
This is my kid icarus, I ever had an idea like this!

Damn, this game, in 2003, had an amazing graphic! I haven't seen anything like this on Wii yet :S

It should be 2d like Smash bros brawl Space Mission but more complex but I think that the space mission stages would be perfect with that setup

I would love for a new Kid Icarus to look like this, whether its a DS or Wii retail title

But thats being completely unrealistic. Chances are, like everyone is saying, Factor 5 probably has this one. Assuming that is the case, we're going to get a slightly grown up Pit and it's going to be Lair in Angel Land. Chances are, Nintendo is going to drop the "Kid" from Icarus assuming this is going to be their game aimed at the "hardcore" demographics. Regardless, I still can't wait to see it. I'm to big a fan. Besides, nothing can let me down worse than Castlevania: Judgement, so hey, whatever.

2d sweeping epic, beautifuly drawn artwork a la Vanilla Ware talent/style, map style over world allowing you to choose the next level, new characters to use, stupidly huge bosses, upgradable armor and weapons via shops, and voila, orgasm am total.

I know I'd almost certainly prefer it to be a DS game as opposed to a Wii game.

I've had enough "epic re-imaginings" of classic games series. Just give me a solid game built on the same ideas as the original.

Right here.

I don't want to wait all this time just to get stuck with Kid Icarus Prime.

Yeah Dead Pheonix is pretty much what I'd imagine a 3D KI, except in more of a KI style.

I don't know why people keep bringing up Dead Phoenix as a Kid Icarus surrogate. The games have virtually no similarities, and the game engine itself has to be pretty dated by now. Besides, I always thought that was loosely associated with Capcom's own Legendary Wings.

No thanks.
