hoping that dude hits it big one of these days. one of my favorite characters in a while. i liked how he was all jokes but then you finally got a sense of his frustration and shame in that scene.

The last song in the film seems like it's the one he wrote.
Them feels!

And this guy was on the shortlist for playing young Han Solo too!

Really? Hope he gets it. He was so good in this and I never saw or heard of him before.

Such a great movie. I watched Once again right after it and man these movies are insanely great.

Yes but unfortunately the role has been confirmed to go to Alden Ehrenreich in the end. The idea of a Han Solo film is so odd, we'll see how it goes I guess. Both Reynor and Ehrenreich are pretty unknown.

I watched this earlier and it was a fun movie. I wasn't expecting to like the original songs as much as I did.

I LOVED the movie, it was so, SO good... John Carney keeps suprising me: I saw Once on HBO many years ago, it was about to begin and I had nothing to do or watch and i loved that movie so much. Years later I see this movie with Mark Rufallo and Keira Knightley and I say well, let's see it... I loved that movie instantly and end I was surprised it was by Carney! had no idea... A friend told me yesterday thay I should see Sing Street, it weas on Netflix so I say sure, I LOVED IT TOO MUCH and then I see it was by Carney, again the dude surprised me!

People really need to see this movie, it is so great! And while watching I was thinking a lot about Kojima and MGSV and lol knowing he loved it, of coursed he was going to love it.

I thought every one was great in the movie, but I gotta said that ma favorite was Jack Reynor and like a gaffer said, it is indeed shitti that people knoe him from Transformer mora than for anything else, like this or Macbeth, the dude it is very good.

Spoiler of the whole movie:

What I didn't like was how little or close to nothing we got from the sister, like it was a character to explore and have some input into Conor but NOPE.

Wow. Just saw this thread and went search for this movie on Netflix. It's available in my country! Will watch it tomorrow.

I hope you enjoyed it... post your thoughts here when you see it so the thread goes up and more people get to know about this movie!

Hey guys, I was browsing around for some christmas shopping, and I watched this commercial from 2013 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWRs0m5QTfU

Ring any bells ? ;)

WHOAH! this... like... WHAT? Probably the same composer, right?

Amazing movie. I liked it a lot!

Just like Fraveau's Chef, this movie has a heart.

I like to watch movies where the characters seem to love what they do.

Just watched this recently on Netflix as well. It was okay. I get why people would find it charming, but for me it felt very "by the numbers" as far as coming of age stories go. I had just watched Boyhood before that so I suppose everything was going to feel lesser in comparison but yeah, Sing Street really didn't do anything for me. It wasn't awful, just not particularly great.

I absolutely adored Once and haven't had the time to give this one a watch. Thanks for reminding me about it.

Watched it two days ago - fun movie, very charming with good or great actors. The only problem was that the film started showing the lead as untalented in music and then he and his friends produce professional chart quality music all of a sudden. That went a bit too quickly without much struggle.

Great movie, only watched it a few days ago but it's one of my favourites of 2016, along with Hunt for the Wilderpeople which also went up on UK Netflix.

Feel good movie, so watch it when you have time. Funnily enough, it was only due to Hideo Kojima tweeting often about this movie I became aware of it.

EDIT: Totally agree with the post above mine, they went from really shitty to really good almost in the transition of a scene, missed the whole garage band phase but doesn't really harm the movie, but it's hard not to notice.

Loved this movie so, so much. What a lovely take on the typical coming of age story -- so sweet, such great music, and great acting from the kids.

Have 'Drive it Like You Stole It' stuck in my head.

I watched it last week and absolutely loved it. It has so much heart and watching the band get inspired by one song to the next was so fun. As someone who grew up in a band, there was so much to relate to.

Ending was bizarre though.

I liked this movie... would like to see a sequel if they made it to England... I liked the john Lennon kid.. I guess it's kind of like the Beatles in Ireland

Just watched this on a whim. Absolutely fucking loved it. The music was great, the characters were great. I wish some of the other band members got more to do. I think I just wanted to see them hang out more.

But yeah. Fantastic movie. Great sense of humor. The brother was the highlight, but I also couldn't get it out of my head of him looking like an Irish Seth Rogan. It's fucking uncanny.

I saw this thread the other day and planned on watching this, and man, wasn't disappointed. Such a feel good movie, even though there's a lot of ambiguous depression (can't think of anything better to call it). Thanks for the rec!

Just watched it! It's my favorite movie of the year. Loved the soundtrack, the older brother character, and the romantic elements. Coming of age stories are generally right up my alley though so I'm trying to keep it in perspective in terms of it being the "best" movie of 2016. I still think Moonlight, Manchester by the Sea, Arrival and La La are better films but it's borderline top 5. I saw Begin Again a few months back and while it wasn't bad I wasn't too impressed. I really want to check out Once now after hearing some of you suggest it's even better than this.

Wait, what? You have to see ONCE. It's a lighting in a bottle modern musical. It's so great.

I know what you mean by you've seen better films, but nothing in 2016 made me feel this good.

Caught it on Netflix. Extremely surprised with how much I liked it. Every trailer, screen, and comment I'd heard beforehand lead me to believe it was definitely not for me.

Loved it, have listened to the soundtrack on Spotify on repeat for about a week. Also great seeing a ton of places from home - made me very nostalgic and no small bit homesick.

Also convinced me to give once a chance - wish I had done so earlier. Hansard is surprisingly good in it, and the ending was spot on

It's funny that's school I went too I even know people in the movie

And I have not watched it yet

I hated that school too much man lol
The School it's called Synge Street so the title was a play on words

Right, that's in the movie and why they named themselves Sing Street.

i actually saw this when i was browsing netflix one night. i like how each song his brother showed him he became that artist. it was cute what he was doing.

Watched this on Netflix a week or two back and enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. It got that 80s teen movie feel just right

Really enjoyed this. While I think it held extra spark for me because I'm Irish, I think anyone would be able to have a good time watching it.

That's kind of the point, I thought. You know how when you are young and naive and full of hope and dreams and you play something and you are like "damn, I'm good" even though later on you'd look back and be like "damn, I was delusional"? Well this movie is a bit of a wish-fulfillment fantasy, with the music of the movie being the awesome shit they would perceive and hear in their heads. It's not a realistic portrayal of the struggle to stardom or the development of talent, it is a musical fantasy.

Watched this last night and I loved it. Spreading the word to friends and family to give it a watch. Drive it like you stole it is my jam right now.

Loved the movie, probabaly watched it like 3 times now over the past couple months.
Older brother is the best. He reminds me of a mix of Chris Pratt and Seth Rogan.
