I had no idea he even did metal until I heard him on a Rhapsody's "Symphony of Enchanted Lands II: The Dark Secret" (yes, that is the album name). His massive voice was the icing on the cake to some crazy guitar wailing, double kick drums and orchestral ridiculousness. It was fucking awesome.

As it can't be overstated how talented/eventful his life was, Lee:

- Served in special forces in WW2
- Was cousin to Ian Fleming by marriage, and was possibly the person Fleming based his sketch of James Bond on
- Was as big a LOTR fan as there can be, and met Tolkien himself. His big ambition was to play Gandalf.
- Was Dracula, Saruman, Count Dooku, one of the greatest Bond villains, Lord Summerisle, and numerous other famous roles
- Made hundreds of films over a 70 year career, continued acting until his death.
- Did almost all his own stunts, did more on-screen sword fighting than any other actor and was an accomplished fencer
- Spoke 7 languages
- Was a talented singer
- Made several metal albums while in his 90s
- Knighted in 2009
- Direct descendant of Charlemagne (while his descendants are all over Europe, Lee traced his lineage directly back to the man himself)
- Married to the same woman since the early 1960s

I'm missing some things no doubt.

I just learned he briefly took part in our war against Russia back in the day. Respect.

When World War II broke out, Lee volunteered to fight for the Finnish forces during the Winter War in 1939. He and other British volunteers were kept away from actual fighting, but they were issued winter gear and were posted on guard duty a safe distance from the front lines. After a fortnight, they returned home. Lee returned to work at United States Lines and found his work more satisfying, feeling that he was contributing.

People like him don't die, they are reborn as legends !

It was bound to happen sooner or later, I am wondering which giant of the cinema is going to die next. Christopher Lloyd ? Kirk Douglas (he is 98 after all) ? Martin Sheen ?

My first exposure to him was the Discworld animated movies

Yes. Great man.
Looking at Charlemagne paintings are a bit uncanny now.
