My favorite role of his:

Death in the 90s Nelvana Discworld cartoons. A role which he later reprised in the live action adaption of Colour of Magic and Light Fantastic:

He just had the perfect voice for the role. Menacing when he needed to be, or philosophical and melancholic at other moments. He was pretty much the voice I always imagined when reading the books.

Obviously one of the smaller parts of his life, but he defines one of Pratchett's best characters for me.

Here's Christopher Lee as Death arguing about the nature of infinity with a philosopher after he became depressed about his purpose in one of the Discworld cartoons:

Hell no! But on the other 93 is damn good going. RIP you'll live on for a long time Sir Lee.

Need to watch some good tribute material. The Wicker Man? The Wicker Man.

Terrible news. :( I've really been getting into classic Hammer movies lately and Christopher Lee was just wonderful. Truly a man who was talented at everything.

Over 270 roles, including roles in James Bond, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings. He fought everyone from Jedis to Captain America.

Releasing heavy metal albums in his 90s.

Married a supermodel. STAYED married in Hollywood.

Knighted by royalty. Was one of a few allowed to STAND during the ceremony.

Traced his lineage back to the Holy Roman Empire.

Met J.R.R. Tolkein in real life. The only actor of the LoTRs to have done so.

Tried to do all his own stunts for years.

Cousin to real-life James Bond Ian Flemming. The two worked out of Baker Street and were commissioned by Winston Churchill himself to "set Europe ablaze" as real-life Nazi-killing spies.

The man was incredible. A legend has passed. He'll be sorely missed.

amazing photograph

It sure is.

Back when I was a kid in the early 80's the Hammer horrors already looked so old and dated I assumed they were all dead by then, it's all I ever knew the guys from. Lee's increasing popularity was great to see, Cushing and Price will forever in my mind be locked to that era.

This is like when Leslie Neilsen passed away. You always think Christopher Lee would be there since he's so iconic.

RIP British Dracula, may you hang out with the aforementioned Canadian Dracula in heaven.

He hated the role, in some of the last Hamer movies he barely speaks because of the typecats.

I was always under the impression that he was more angry about how crappy the culture was at Hammer in the last days of the old regime than hating the role. Just all the gimmicky crap they tried and going out of their way to play up the sex and violence at the expense of doing interesting films with those characters made famous by Cushing and Lee.

I'd certainly never recommend something like Dracula AD 1972 to anyone but Hammer completionists.

If only I could achieve a small fraction of what he did through his entire lifetime, he is certainly an inspirational figure for many, a true legend.

RIP old man, may your legacy be remembered in the many years to come.

God was going hoarse. He needed a new voice.

RIP to the greatest badasses who ever lived. Will be marathoning the Hammer Dracula films, TMWTGG, and my personal favorite, The Wicker Man*, this weekend.

*The original, not the bees.

R.i.p.

I cracked up on the extras disc for the hobbit when he was like "here we go..... Here we go" when Peter Jackson was telling him to tone down his eye brow acting.
