Siren - New Translation announced for PS3

Wait how are you getting GTA4 next week?

Well, it was a close approximation! :)

Although a local indie store always ends up selling games a few days before their street date.. even the big ones, so I'm secretly hoping.

no one post the scan yet? also, although this is a remake, the characters have been changed to westerners. so this will be a gaijin siren.

edit: oh, shit... no scans anymore?

The ban man cometh.

Also. Don't famitsu articles usually mention BR-ROM in the blue description bar for PS3 games? Perhaps the lack of a BR-ROM tag could indicate it is indeed a PSN only game. For now ayway. No doubt it will be given a 'collected' retail release when all the 'episodes' are released.

Anyway......I didn't see one in the scan that nobody here posted.

*whistles*

Oh shit omg.

Hopefully it plays better than the first. Despite some cool ideas like looking through the eyes of the ghost, I was bored to tears by the pacing and level design.

I'm happy to see that the Siren project matters to Sony, but i loved and finished the first one 2 times and i was hoping to see new material...Siren 3 i mean.

It's already in production, how much do i have to wait more to see it?

Ah. I want Siren 3 man.

It looks great in the scans but I'm not a fan of the first game, it was really frustrating, unbalanced and low budget although the basic concept behind it was great.
So if this is a remake I hope they fixed all the problems of the original game, that is they actually remade it and it's not just a graphical overhaul.

Oh man thats awesome. Siren was a great game. Best horror game by far.

Wonder why they kept the lid on this for so long??

Hmm... I wonder if this change to western characters has anything to do with the Siren movie that's supposedly in the works, according to Wikipedia.

i hope they'll add some new twist to end the game..... much of the greatness of the first siren was to discover WHAT the "siren" actually was.
anyway: siren 1's storyline is probably the best (arguably..... the most complex for sure :D) ever told in a survival horror, so a remake so that it reaches more people can only be a good thing. The plot guide for it in gamefaqs is ok but nowhere near the full extent of the storyline.

...so will this version NOT have stupid british accents when it comes stateside? D:

....PLEASE???

Well, in number 2 most of the voices were in Engrish, and I guess that's the best we could hope for. Though it also had the option to switch to Japenese w/subs.

I'm a little disappointed, one of the worst elements with the original was the lack of diversity in the cast leading to a lack of gameplay variation where as in the second you had schoolgirls, reporters, soldiers, psychics, a blindman with a dog you had to sightjack, they made you feel helpless in so many different contexts... Just feel like a lot of the improvements they made in the second will be lost, though I can't see them not improve the difficulty and clumsiness of the first. Also I'm sure the artwork will be amazing, though I wonder how the faces will be animated now? I really loved the distorted manner which they did it on the PS2 but I fear it wont hold up on the PS3, could lose some of it's charm because of it. That said it's the Silent Hill of J-horror that's actually fun/terrifying to pay.

Maybe they're re-making Siren for PSN and making Siren 3 for Blu-ray?

Anyway, I've never played a Siren game so good for me I guess. I love survival horror.

true but the blind-man actually had ONE mission. Same for the kid. Every gameplay gimmick was sorely underused........ while the action stages were more or less the 60% of the game.
i actually preferred the "range" of gameplay variants in the first game: the kids had more missions (also the priest who didn't have any weapon), the were much less action stages (pretty horrible in siren 2) and more stealth-only stages. There were no ammos (only 1 level had some hidden somewhere), so you had to manage with what you were given, while in siren 2, after the first stages, basically EVERYONE had access to a gun or a rifle, and there's a bug to replenish ammo using killed shibitos........ which is a bit lame.

YES!

I love the Siren franchise. The sight-jacking concept is pretty underrated in the game. It makes the game very intense and fresh.

Demo so soon... unbelievable! We need PICS!

Sorry guys, maybe it's because i'm jetlagged this week, but help me a sec on this:

If Famitsu is showing material on the remake, the counter on Sony's page is the promotion of the same game or is a totally different one aka SIREN 3?

I mean , there's a possibility that they're announcing the third as well or the countdown is linked to the remake that Famitsu showed?

Kotaku thinks they are related to two different games, Siren remake and Siren 3 and that would be AWeSOME

The SCEJ page has /nt/ in the URL - New Translation, so I don't think they're different.

I hope the episodes are released in a timely fashion, e.g. once every week/fortnight or something. Could be the first true episodic game
I doubt it's that kind of episodes. Siren 1 and 2 are split up into several 'episodes' where you play as different people.

Countdown is obviously for the premiere trailer.

Technically WKS is Third party and Dark Mist is Game Republic which is still 3rd party

Published by Sony. So they are first party titles

They are first party titles that have been developed by third party, independent developers.

If we aren't going to use the adopted (and frequently misused) term second party to describe them, then these are first party titles.

End of.

SCEJ finally return to us :D but damn that leaked PSN list is the real deal , Quest for Booty will be AFW

Published by Sony. So they are first party titles

yeah but i guess the guys talking about SCEJ internal studios/teams like team Saru , Siren , ICO , Locoroco , the team behind Arc the Lad and PoPoLoCrois ect not just the other SCEJ first party like PD or Clap hanz or 2nd party like GR or Level-5

I really want to like Siren. Hopefully it's not so fucking frustrating this time around.

Same here.

Also, hopefully the BD format will mean that the Japanese voice track will be on the US version. Hearing a bunch of Japanese people living in Japan speaking English detracted from the game's atmosphere quite a bit.

it might be a PSN title tho ( according to the leaked PSN list )

Siren 2 (Pal) has Japanese and english voice track , so if it's on BD i guess they will do it .

It looks like this is going to be released in episodic form through PSN. Also if you listen to the teaser site everyone is speaking in English. As Wollan pointed out earlier, this seems like a remake along the lines of The Grudge where they use both American and Japanese actors.

Your way over-blowing that, I feel the only levels that feel actiony are the soldier ones, but even then you'll end up dead if you try to just run into things. Not to mention that the ammo is somewhat limited on the other levels and I never ran into the weapon glitch by mistake.

Like I said, I really didn't see all that many "action" stages in FS2. Yes there were levels where you had a sufficent amount of ammo, but you still had to know exactly where all your enemies are because they generally had firearms of their own on those levels and could kill you if they spotted you. Also wasn't it only the male characters that used the rifles? For me it the very least the game felt more intense, it allowed you to get panicked and recover from it, however the first game never allowed that because as soon as you were spotted you were pretty much dead.

I think the leak was for a demo, not the full game.

You played dozens of different people in dozens of different chapters in the previous games.
The plot was quite deep and you would need to see the context of it all.

I can't wait to see the presentation in this one. Scary stuff.

Same here. I never played the first one (the voices just really threw me off for some reason... so I really hope they do a better english job this time. Or at least leave the voices in japanese with subtitles) so i'm definatly keeping my eye on an HD remake.

since this is a remake, then they won't be changing the voices. our only hope is that they at least include JPN voices with English subtitles.

After visiting the site, they sounds pretty North American english-y to me. So maybe they did change things up?

Also that doesnt really make sense...every remake of something i've ever seen usually changes things substantially but remains true to the game's story. So changed voices arent out of the question.

Here is something interesting. According to the article, it's not only a remake, but will include new characters among other new gameplay additions.

This also explain why you hear English being spoken in the teaser site... cause the new characters will be GAIJINS.

Um...That's Game Republic, not SCEJ.

God dammit. One of the scariest things about Siren was how close it was to Japanese horror movies (which I find largely scarier than western ones).

Thanks for fucking ruining it, SCEI!

If it's only a few western characters it won't be that bad.

speaking English only doesn't make it any less scary. as he said, these could be portrayed as foreigners. maybe we'll see non JPN tourists get lost in the mix or something.
