Skyrim DLC will be timed XBL exclusive

Well, just like the three other Bethesda games, I'll be getting the 360 version first and most likely get GOTY PC much later/double dip (if it's good...) when it hits $30 or less. THEN I can enjoy a bunch of mods and all that pretty resolution/framerate after I build my new condo in "Master Race" land with all the DLC and such. And chances are, by the time that happens, it will be on friggin' Steam sale or some mess!

This from the guy who triple dipped Oblivion and Fallout 3...

Isn't this more of a problem with people who only own the 360? Just because people don't complain when Sony moneyhats, doesn't mean it's ok when MS does it.

If people cared about the issue overall they would bitch and whine regardless of platform or what company does it.

really starting to dislike microsoft over the last couple years.

anyway, i'm not going near the shitty console port.

PC all the way.

I'm still playing this on PS3. Eventually will get the PC version after modders have had some time with it.

There have been a lot of stupid trends to emerge this gen, and platform exclusive DLC is probably the worst. What does this mean for me? I will be playing on PC, and I don't even own an Xbox, so it just means that I won't be able to play the DLC for an arbitrary amount of time. It's so pointless.
The only part of this that's new is that the content eventually shows up on other platforms so everyone can have it. Prior gens had far more expansive and limiting forms of exclusivity.

And I'm not saying its not OK to be a little pist-off or angry but these threads usually only pop up for 360 exclusives which most times or timed exclusives but to me exclusives another console never gets is much, much bigger deal.

Like I said above

Besides people only comment or rage about things they care enough about. If people didn't complain about it, doesn't mean that they are OK with the practice that means they didn't care enough about that particular item to create a thread and cry/complain about it.

So it most likely has less to do with Microsoft but more to do with the popularity of the title in question. People dislike the practice, but only voice their displeasure when it revolves around a title they want.

It's like the origin vs steam thing for battlefield 3. It only made so much waves because of... battlefield 3. I am sure there would alot less complaints and comments in general if the game in question was the Battlefield F2P. I could easily see threads being created of GTA5 or Modern Warfare 3 and/or Mass Effect 3 gets exclusive stuff on the PS3.

Imo, it is more of a reflection of the posters POV, when they make it a spat between MS and Sony or a 360 vs PS3 thing.

Hey Bethesda, it looks like my money's going to be timed exclusive too. To Dark Souls.

hah, yeah. this.

i'll be buying Skyrim used when i feel like it. it's going to be a buggy broken game anyway like Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout: NV. been burnt so many times with Bethesda's games, i would hate myself if i once again paid full price..

Not that worried about it, as a PC player, because by then I'll probably be bored of the game, and DLC will not be worth starting it back up for anymore than it was worth starting up Fallout 3 or Oblivion for. I might buy it on Steam sale 6 months down the line or something. Whatev.

True. Legends say there were ENTIRE GAMES that were exclusive to one platform.

I'll survive, though. It's lame but Skyrim should have enough content to last me until the DLC hits PC, and then some. Whatever.

*shrug* it's only a month.

exactly. i love all the outraged responses of people now threatening to NOT buy the game, when you know they will after the crazy reviews it's going to get.

who cares, the game will take 100s of hours to finish anyway so why not keep playing until the month is up and then u can get the DLC anyway?

What else can they do to discourage Bethesda from making DLC timed exclusive? No, I mean seriously, what other course of action can PC owners take to counter this. There's no corporation to money hat timed exclusive DLC for PC owners and MS just doesn't give a shit any more about the PC so what can they do? Add in the $60 price tag and it just feels like a kick in the balls. So are you supposed to take that smiling?

As an addendum, if you can get Skyrim for $35-$40 week 1 on the PC then you'd be stupid not to get it, principles and all.

The only way I will care about DLC is if Skyrim gets a Shivering Isles sized expansion. Expansions seemed to have largely died off though.

The wise choice would be to wait for GOTY PC, if I can resist, it's not like their won't be plenty of other great games in the mean time.

I don't know. I think it's pretty smart to wait 6 months, get a patched version for $20. And by that time there will probably be a few mods out fixing the obvious problems. The game doesn't get worse as times goes by, if anything it gets better.

Was planning on getting the PC version anyway but now I'll most likely hold off until I can get it for cheap on a Steam sale or something. I do not in any way support platform exclusive DLC, even a timed one. Utter garbage.

With Zelda releasing around the same time, I´ll gladly wait for the inevitable Goty-version of the game that I´ll buy off Steam with all the content that should have been there from day 1.

So who else is waiting for the GotY release too ?

I am. I will probably be playing all of the Fallout New Vegas DLC once that comes out in a retail package. I don't have much of a problem waiting on WRPGs since they seem to always come out when a ton of other great games are getting released.

I won't buy it. Some people actually care about this stuff and don't want to support it.

It won't matter to me as I only buy games like this 6 months after release similar to new vegas.
They're cheap, modded and patched.

And some of us are way behind on these games. I played Oblivion for the first time earlier this year. Just played New Vegas last month when it was on sale at Best Buy. I am now playing Alpha Protocol. I have Dragon Age origins GOTY still in plastic. Borderlands GOTY on Steam. Plus you look at the fall release schedule and it makes it very easy to wait on these DLC laden games.

Looks like they had Mega64 do the first commercial: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/dlc-the-mega64/719525

Wow, it's one thing when the platform holder releases a "We're #1! We get the best content first! Buy the version on our platform!" press release, but when the publisher says "Don't want to be screwed? Don't buy our gimp versions", that's... amazing
agreed ....

-.-"

Just one more reason to wait for the GOTY edition.

Exclusive DLC and retail exclusive bonuses are the chief reason I dislike this gen more and more. >:-|

Wait for GOTY? No way.

First time I'll play the release version, with all the fun bugs and no mods (or at most some UI/quick fix mods like health regen disable).

Second time, once some of the larger mods have had at least first versions out, along with whatever DLC's are out at the time.

Then finally the third time when all DLC's + final patch are out, and mods have had the chance to properly mature.

(and then for playthroughs 4-20 the same combo as the third :P).

I imagine next-gen to get worse.

Blue Ninja said:
Not really unexpected, I guess. I'm wondering if these DLC packs will be Fallout-sized, or more like the Oblivion DLC.
Yeah, if the DLC will be anything anything like recent Fallout DLC then this will be a nice bonus for the 360 version.

But if it's smaller stuff, or better yet, horse armor, then I couldn't give less of a shit.

I'd be shocked if Bethesda pulls another horse armor. They wouldn't do that again. Probably not...

Xbox 360 does this thing with the DLC, Sony gets exclusive stuff.

Exclusive DLC like this one or like they do with COD Black Ops is just... unnecessary.

Sony at least try harder. They got Medal of Honor HD with Medal of Honor, PS3 get Bioshock 1 when they get Bioshock Infinite, etc.

I rather have something more than something earlier.

It actually ends up saving me money because I no longer run out and buy every big release that I don't even have time for. By the time I would get around to it, I'll be able to get the game and all the DLC together, just like the other RPGs I have played since getting burned on the lousy Fallout 3 DLC.

Dude, timed exclusive is MS way!

True enough. That is probably a better option actually.

-edit-
And I just read the press release which cracked me up. So Bethesda really wants the other platform versions of the game to bomb? They're actively telling fans to buy it on the 360 over any other platform so that they won't have to wait.

I'll buy this game but I'll be sure to buy it used.

If you're going to treat all versions of your game but one as second rate, then I'll treat it as such when I'm buying it.

I honestly don't mind the timed exclusive DLC but it's that obnoxious press release that really ticks me off.
