Skyrim is PC Gamer's #1 Game of All Time

They are right. Unlimited supply of awesome mods and tweaks, great community, great game overall with fantastic gameplay and atmosphere. Loved every second of my adventure in that world, will play again.

Bethesda didn't skimp on the depth of Skyrim because of a lack of RAM. They did it because they want sales and they think stripping out the RPG depth makes the game more accessible. They're willing to sell out the quality of their franchise for sales.

I don't agree that it's the #1 PC game of all time, I'd have to give that to EQ, WoW, or Half-Life 1/2, but I don't know why everyone here makes such a big deal about modding Skyrim. Some lazy code for sure, but I'd much rather people make games with the scope of Skyrim with a few fixable issues than well coded linear snoozefests.
 
I'm considering beginning a petition to get PC Gamer to change their name.

It's an embarrassment to the magazine I read growing up

Wasn't it by reader vote? Skyrim is massively popular and many, many people simply don't mind the weak combat (or other flaws) as they love the overall experience.
 
What happened to PC Gamer?

Skyrim can't even stay in the top 30 RPGs of all time on GAF, let alone the top 100 games of all time.
 
Gaf is too critical of Skyrim. It is like CoD. Very popular and people LOVE it. PC gamer is trying to please the massive fan base, i guess. HL 2 is still best imo.

What's wrong with OotPB? It's one of the better sport simulations out there and is so text heavy it wouldn't ever be considered casual or anything. Are you mistaking it for Backyard Baseball or something? :P

The argument is that Skyrim isn't a good game at all.

Terrible combat.
Dumbed down RPG mechanics.
Shallow quests. The entire game is incredibly shallow.

People enjoy Skyrim because of the large open world to explore, not because it is a good game. And it belongs no where near the top PC games of all time.

Settings, mods & high fidelity/resolution graphics over gameplay.

If Skyrim gets this award, I imagine there will never be a golden era of PC games like the late '90s to early 2000's ever again.
 
Skyrim is wildly ambitious, player-choice-directed, filled with a fuckton of content, mod-friendly and will be played for ages. Great voicework and soundtrack too.

I can understand people not finding it to be their thing, but its a gobsmacking amazing game regardless.
 
Not a bad choice I think.

It's huge, beautiful, retains almost all of what made the games special over the past twenty years while perfectly expanding the gameplay and graphics as technology progresses. It also supports mods, a tradition of pc gaming.

Not a bad choice at all.
 
I mean with mods Skyrim is pretty fucking amazing, but not the best of all time.

That's Half Life 3 everyone knows this.

I think PC Gamer has proved again and again over the last few years that they are the single worst gaming publication in the US.

Skyrim is a shallow RPG with serious flaws, nowhere NEAR the top 100 of PC games. It being called #1 by PCGamer disgusts me.
