Skyrim: Special Edition - Mods Thread: Thomas the Tank Engine Strikes Back

I uninstalled SFO (not disabled plugin) and still had massive drops. Tried SFO without verdant and got 60 fps. So the problem seems to be verdant. Would this still work since even without SFO verdant was taxing.

Yeah I'm sticking to SFO only, Verdant is way too taxing.

Can you guys do me a favor and tell me if looking at riverwood (and in the direction of cities in general) makes your fps drop? Specifically from the bridge looking toward the sawmill.

When I am out in the wilds my fps is completely stable, like I said before. Sucks that it drops in or when looking towards cities and I want to know if that's normal. A bunch of people on JK's mod pages are saying that they are getting fps drops when looking at certain stuff in riverwood and whiterun and people are saying that is normal for Skyrim with or without JK's city mods.

LOOT is out for Skyrim Special Edition! (PC)

WHAT LOOT DOES:

  • LOOT is a plugin load order optimisation tool for TES IV: Oblivion, TES V: Skyrim, TES V: Skyrim Special Edition, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4. It is designed to assist mod users in avoiding detrimental conflicts, by automatically calculating a load order that satisfies all plugin dependencies and maximises each plugin’s impact on the user’s game.

Get it here: https://bintray.com/wrinklyninja/lo..._0.9.2-140-g621eb49_better-update-checking.7z (must have 7z unzipper)

I think this should go in the OP. LOOT is a great tool for getting your mod order set up and will help immensely. I don't know it like the back of my hand yet but I would be glad to help share what I know if anyone has any questions on how to use it.

EDIT: Crap, double posted.

EDIT 2: Also, don't forget to install the latest Nvidia drivers guys! There is one for the special edition and I missed it till just now. I'll check and see if it improves performance.

I keep trying to do download SFO through NMM and it just hangs at 190mb? It says it's still downloading but it is not

I've tried deleting it and redownloading it a few times and it just gets stuck at the same point. I guess I just have to do it manually?

I had to do manual download and then added it to NMM.

I had the same problem last night. Then I just leave it alone and proceed with downloading the LOD patch and other mods. It's already finished when I look up the NMM again.

Is there a way without mods via cobsole command to make generic npcs like hunters, followers? Trying all codes like friend levels and stuff and the npc does nothing but greet.

Alright guys, I don't know what exactly did it but all of my fps problems are now solved. I only did two new things since my last test and maybe they both helped.

Here is what I did,

1. I installed the new Nvidia game ready drivers and let it optimize Skyrim SE.

2. I did a little research and found that the built in Vsync solution is apparently pretty trash so this is what I did,

Go to your Skyrimprefs.ini. You can search for it in the task bar if you want, just make sure you have the right edition of skyrim by right clicking and selecting the file location to see if it takes you to the special editions file path. Locate iVSyncPresentInterval=1 and set it to 0. Save that. Now open Nvidia control panel and go to "Manage 3d Settings" If you can't find the SE in the list then click on the "add" button and find it.

Now in the list of settings select triple buffering and set it to on.
Then select Vsync and set it to on as well.

Now select apply at the bottom of the page and test the game!

I am now getting rock solid 60fps at almost all times. These screens are from the most demanding spots where it would tank my fps to the 30's and 40's before. Now it only drops as low as 58-59. Incredible.

Needless to say, I am excited lol!

Which water mod did you go with here?

So I downloaded a mod (PS4) to adjust the third person camera, but forgot to save beforehand. Anyway, mod sucked, but deleting it didn't reset the camera to default, and I don't have a clean save to fall back on.

Am I boned?

If so, crap... lesson learned I guess.

Why do you need a mod to adjust the 3rd person camera?

Hold click R3 and adjust the camera with L3.

I know that. This was supposedly a mod to make it more playable, by shifting the camera off-center, but in practice it just sucked. Now I'm stuck with it.

I just did this, what an amazing improvement!

Thanks for the tip.

Not if you follow the rest of my post and use Nvidia control panel for vsync and triple buffering.

I went inside an inn and was at 120 FPS and shit was bouncing around. So clearly there's something at odds here. I did exactly everything else the same.

Any way to cap frames at 60?

Out of curiosity, anyone else here think it might be for the better if a new UI and MCM mod is made to replace SkyUI in the long term since the original creators have stated they won't lift a finger towards anything SkyUI related anymore because Paid Mods fell through? For some bitter irony, a professional did the maths and concluded that the SkyUI team would be losing money by taking it retail due to the licensing model of the software they used, relative to the amount of people who were downloading SkyUI before and the price they intended to go with.

Triple buffering in the control panel is only for OpenGL. It's not doing anything to Skyrim.

Oh ok cool, lol I am new to this. It's just something I usually do if it lets me. I just looked it up and you are correct so I will jot this down and try to remember that. Thanks!

Anyhow, the in game Vsync must suck then because just disabling that and enabling it through the control panel really did make a huge difference.

I'm getting a weird slow down\fps stutter while looting, currently using SkyUI 2.2. It's getting really annoying, to the point where I stop looting mobs in dungeons at times. I just kill shit and move on.

Yeah that's it. Just download, set the Skyrim SE Exe and you can limit it to 60.

That did the trick, but now I'm getting awful screen tearing.

I clearly have some tweaking I need to do, haha. I'm new to all this. Actually I think I'm not capped to 60 after all. I'm not sure because when I installed Rivatuner the FPS overlay from steam went away.

If everyone using SFO and Verdant just paid attention to the SFO ini tweak... then they would have no problems. I am getting locked 60 on my system...

Use RTSS, always use RTSS.

I guess this means Riva Tuner? Do I need anything else to make it work?
Nope, that should do it.

Cool, thank you.

Im going to start missing the game today and like the look of your screens so will try to replicate that.

I'll grab verdant, SFO and realistic water two. Anything else I need on the visual front or am I good to go?

I'm working on a detailed post with all of my settings, mods (with links), load order and system specs so that others that like my screens can know what exactly I did to get a solid performance with those visuals.

I just like to test each mod as I install it to insure that it is working properly so that you can know that what I post is working together at the fps and res that I say they are so it's taking a bit.

Let me test something for just a minute and I will make that post and just update it as I go along.

Ok I'm clearly doing something wrong here with RTSS because I am getting very noticeable tearing on my screen while using it, when before I was having no issues except the framerate was too high.

Here's what my RTSS looks like:

3GsoENL.jpg

In addition, the Steam overlay disappeared and I can't access Steam during gameplay like I used to be able to.

I am using it with NMM.

Help?

EDIT: Apparently setting the FPS limit a touch higher fixes the problem with the tearing. Although the Steam Overlay issue is still there, I guess I can live without it.

fuck that grass mod, it cut my FPS in half (even with ini settings!)

Better with more powerful PCs.

Also fuck Smilodon, I died literally 48 times while trying to just fight common bandits, fights should not be that hard.

nm I just suck at combat (I got gud)

Welp testing took a little longer than I thought it would. I figured some things out though. it's late now so I will make an in depth post tomorrow with all of my mods+settings and such like I said earlier.

Enhanced Blood Textures is a lot of fun. When you're in a room with four or five bandits and you just demolish them the whole room is almost covered in blood. Good, good, stuff

Fuck I'm such an idiot. There's TWO Skyrim ini's??
Somehow I missed the that the ini I was supposed to edit was in My Documents, I was editing the Skyrim_default.ini file by mistake.

Anyway, Verdant is working great now on my 970!

I wanna get back in this but my character so UGLY.

Did the launch so I could get an .ini. Need a decent wood elf look. I don't need my characters to be gorgeous but JC the wood elves are bad. I'd prefer original EQ sprites.

Anyone have a decent mod for wood elf faces, or a tip to make them not horrendous? Sorry if this has been asked... yes I'll admit to some laziness in not wanting to search the whole thread. I have checked online. Don't necessarily want a whole face redo for all races. Just a decent wood elf that doesn't basically resemble a tan dark elf.

What is the ini tweak tho?

Do you mean in the SFO ini?

I just reinastalled Verdant after getting solid 60 without it and now I've dipped back down to mid 40s

Just wanted to say cheers for the tip with the nvidia tweak, it made a big difference to my framerate for the better :) Keeping things at 60fps with Rivatuner, got good performance without the physics going loopy, and the game looks amazing to boot.

This are the mods i'm currently using, anything missing?
Enjoying my second play through, this time stepping away from an archer play style.
