Skyrim: Special Edition - Mods Thread: Thomas the Tank Engine Strikes Back

The verdant page says to load it after SFO not to disable SFO.

I read it way back when his page was just a few sentences. there must have been an compatibility update somewhere or something. It was definitely there, I mean, I can't imagine my brain making it up but you never know I guess.

I will test it though and see what happens.

I posted this comparison a couple days ago. There's no difference for me.

I'm not sure what's wrong with my SFO + Verdant setup. With both esp enabled or just Verdant, I have identical grass results. Both SFO trees & LOD and Verdant grass are visible. I also have identical performance. I've put Verdant below SFO and set the .ini files as instructed.

That isn't a very demanding spot though and could have fps to spare. I just tested it in a spot that I know is demanding and I swear there is a 1 fps difference. Before all of my tweaks I was dropping to the 56's but after all of my tweaks I was getting 60fps with small dips in this one area but few and far between and now after testing this it's a solid 59fps. :/

Maybe it's all in my head but I swear performance was better before. I don't know man. Maybe I need sleep. lol I can't see any visual difference so I'm just gonna leave it off for now. I don't want to knock over my deck of cards if you know what I mean. I feel like I'm playing a high tension game of Jenga.

I actually agree with you, I was mainly responding to Echoplx's post.

What I was about to say is that why should we load the SFO esp alongside Verdant esp if there's no visual difference on grass? Especially when the game automatically loads SFO trees and LODs even without the esp turned on. All we're gonna get is only a hit to the performance. So it's best to turn SFO plugin off.

Only about an hour into my save and not touched any mods yet. Is it recommended to wait for SKSE? I'd probably only dabble with the better weather and sound mods but would I have to start a new game after SKSE is installed? Ultimately I can wait and play without mods though, as someone that only played it originally on PS3, the vanilla SE is still blowing my mind.

My progress so far

That looks awesome, thought the blue hue is a little strong for my taste. Still looks incredible.

I'm playing now doing the Main Quest and the Mage's Guild, and later on I will start a new character and get all the achievements with it. That's just a preference, though, because I don't want to play with this character through the whole thing. Most mods are allowed to be installed mid game.

I just tried Skyrim Floral Overhaul, and while it looks nice, it seems to not play very well with Verdant installed. I tried reinstalling both Verdant and SFO, making Verdant override SFO files, and then vice-versa. It seems to make grass density go up the wazoo with both mods installed, resulting in a performance drop and waaaay too much overgrowth.

(And yes, I made sure the load order was correct, with Verdant going below SFO.)

I decided to uninstall SFO as a result.

Edit: Apparently there's a "Trees Only" option in the manual download page. Going to try this one and see if it works better than regular SFO.

Go to your Skyrimprefs.ini. You can search for it in the task bar if you want, again make sure you have the right edition of skyrim by right clicking and selecting the file location to see if it takes you to the special editions file path. Locate iVSyncPresentInterval=1 and set it to 0. Save that. Now open Nvidia control panel and go to "Manage 3d Settings" If you can't find the SE in the list then click on the "add" button and find it.

Now in the list of settings select Vsync and set it to on.
What about for AMD users?

^ Mods seem to be working just fine after the update.

Is there a console mods thread?

Looking for the best graphical / lighting improvement mods for XB1.

This one is supposed to be the mods thread for every platform. But it seems that the most active posters are PC users. Check my post from the previous page(s), I've compiled most popular graphical/lighting improvements mods for XB1.

What about for AMD users?

Just use RivaTuner, you can cap it there.

I think I encountered the bug with Open Cities mod. I've uninstalled it several days ago, but it's still causing problem. There's this execution scene that's supposed to happen when I enter Solitude, but it's not happening. There's only Roggvir and the executioner on the stage, and a single NPC on the 'crowd'. After a while, the executioner left Roggvir alone and the other NPC left the scene. However, when Roggvir attempt to leave the stage he's automatically flagged as hostile by everyone else and he dies. I'm not sure if my game is broken or not at this point. I've checked most of the NPCs in Solitude and they all seem to be present. I guess all's good.

I don't have much experience with modding Skyrim, or Skyrim in general, but I'm using Verdant and I'm wondering if it's normal behaviour for grass to grow in streams like this? I mean, I'm assuming it's Verdant doing it. I'm using other mods too but this is a grass issue...

Looks really off but I can ignore it if I have to. Still, I'd like to fix this if possible.

Have you set the Skyrim.ini file as instructed?

I really wonder if Sony will ever budge on their mod stance. People are constantly commenting on the bethesda mod site to email Sony.

Someone suggested that possibly taking a mod file yourself and loading it up privately could bypass some restrictions but I'm not sure that would work for Sony's no external asset policy.

They should, because I am never buying Fallout or TES on Playstation as long as they forbid mods using custom assets. I am totally buying them on Scorpio from now on.

Thanks! Would you be able to link to it by any chance? Struggling to find it in your post history.

Yeah, I have. I'll check again if I did so properly tonight to make sure, but I did read up on how to use Verdant before I installed it so I think I did it right. :S

I guess I should mention, you can sort of see it in the screenshot but grass doesn't cover it the whole way through. Towards the end the grass just grows around the stream the way you'd expect it to. I haven't come across other streams yet so I don't know how it affected those. This one's near Riverwood.

Can anyone post any screenshots of Xbox One graphics mods? Has anyone released anything to make the game look much better?

The static mesh mod is on the store, but I don't know how it affects performance. I heard some people were reporting huge drops and others reported nothing at all so I'm a little hesitant to load it. I'm using the true storm mod, which looks better, but I got a little hitching during a thunderstorm last night. There is also a graphic overhaul mod that I'm hesitant to try as well. :p

Are you using alternative start? Have you started the main quest yet? In the original edition there was a bug that if you entered solitude before the main quest started the execution wouldn't play.

Do you know what isn't lore friendly? My vampire lord Dragonborn - ravager of the goddamn northen Holds - being killed by a bunch of peasant-tier wolves on his way to find AN ELDER SCROLL. Oh, don't mind me, wolves. I'm just on my way to find an item that the god damned series is named after. Because I do shit like that. That's how great I am.

So anyway, I uninstalled Morrowloot because I can't deal with level 50 wolves.

I remember using Skyrim Scaling Stopper for better leveled enemies and item distribution in OG Skyrim in that regard, but that's probably not gonna get ported. In the meantime, one can only wait for another alternative -- though since I never tried Morrowloot I can't speak for it.

So is Morrowloot what would allow me to go into areas I shouldn't be and get loot that makes me really powerful for my level if I can figure out a way to kill or escape the high level enemies? I loved doing this in Morrowind. I hated the flat progression of Oblivion.

Oh man is that what's making my crabs OP??? I keep getting one shot by mud crabs lmao

Which Morrowloot did you install?

AFAIK the original mod did not alter enemies.

Vlaud impaling us with knowledge on modding.

Question for you, how many entries in LOOT did you have to edit the metadata for? I found LOOT's automatic system was not matching anywhere close to your order and had to edit a lot of the metadata.

Fake edit: I also can't tell if my mods are running. I haven't played Skyrim in any capacity, modded or unmodded, in some time, so I have no point of reference.

For your first question, I have only edited the Metadata of Verdant to load after SFO. Depending on the order that you installed the mods with NMM your loot order is just going to be a bit different anyhow but shouldn't hurt anything as long as you've checked the mod installation instructions and there aren't any instructions to load that mod before or after another.

Also, I don't think I mentioned this in the tut but don't forget to push your changes to the master list after you are done. At the top right of the LOOT screen it's the one with the arrow pointing at the pancake that fell off of the uneven stack of pancakes to the left of it.

As for not knowing if a mod is working or not... just test it out with a new save (Always test your freshly installed mods with a fresh character!). You can deactivate mods in the NMM by selecting the mod and left clicking on it and choosing deactivate. This doesn't uninstall it, just turns it off. Go test the game and take a screenshot if you need to with it activated and deactivated. As for other mods, I mean, read what they do and then check in game and see if it does it lol...

Yes, and it's fantastic. I love it!

Not directly related to mods, but I downloaded Nexus Mod Manager, but it seems to be stuck on the loading screen forever. Anyone know what's up with that?

What do you mean by loading screen?

Sometimes pop ups that need your attention don't pop up like they are supposed to and will remain in the background or taskbar and the mod you are waiting on installing will seem like it's taking forever but it just needs you to shoose some options or something in the pop up/installer so that it can finish.

This has happened to me many times lol I've made it a habit to just watch my taskbar till the grey checkmark turns green.

No I mean like, it doesn't even start up all the way. It just stays on the little splash screen.

edit: nevermind, uninstalled and reinstalled and it works now.

Hey Vlaud, do you have any ideas when it comes to my Verdant issue? I don't mean to bother you but I mostly followed your little tutorial is all.

I did just notice it got hidden from nexusmods by the author though. Maybe it's not on me? :/

I can confirm it's working as intended. I'm not the author but it is due to the design of the grass system by Bethesda. This is what the mod is doing as per its mod-page description;
WHAT IS THE 'GOS TWEAK'?
It's a simple tweak in tes5edit where you find a grass, ANY grass, and change the density to 255. It's THAT SIMPLE. YOU COULD DO THIS TO ANY MOD AND MAKE YOUR OWN GRASS ON STEROIDS TWEAKS TO ANY GRASS YOU WISH. So just like with Grass on Steroids, you will get a slight FPS hit at lower settings (like iMinGrassSize=50 to 70) but you will apparently GAIN FPS at higher settings like 125 ... although the grass will be less dense.
So basically its a very straight-forward tweak and inside the engine itself there's going to be an object placement of "Grass" and it comes with a density scale, and all this mod does is tweak that to a higher number. So rather than hand-place every single patch of grass, this is just an "object" per-se and has attributes to tweak the density and coverage of it, which as a downside can and will include clipping inside other objects/models.

I've learnt to ignore it, simply because the positive of it being such an impressive upgrade over vanilla coverage and the FPS hit has been utterly minimal I can ignore some grass clipping inside a rock or a stream than playing the game without it. The mod is definitely an essential mod to have.

Also, the mod page is still live: Verdant - A Skyrim Grass Plugin :: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/60220/?

Right then, that's everything I needed to know. I'm willing to ignore it, I just wanted to know for sure I didn't mess up somehow. Thanks. :)

That's the vanilla skyrim page. Special edition is down

Oh I just noticed, I wonder if he's found some bug that didn't occur in vanilla Skyrim and will re-activate when they've patched it. Because there are numerous reports even here on GAF that Verdant + Skyrim Flora Overhaul causes major performance issues, and that shouldn't happen if the instructions are followed properly, so it must need some additional testing/tweaking from the author.

I hope it gets rectified soon, I love this mod and I can't recommend it highly enough, it's just unfortunate many are experiencing issues.

What Danlord said above me.

I think the pro's greatly outweigh the cons myself though. With issues with grass clipping through water I try to imagine that it just rained and flooded a bit. I lived next to a pasture for years and it looks just like in your pick when it does. I know that the mod author is going through the game and tidying up stuff but it's a huge task because there is just so much to cover. You can go and edit the grass yourself the same way he says in the description and delete grasses that you don't want or even add them where you do. That's about as much as I can help you.
