Skyrim Special Edition - PS3 versus PS4 Graphics Comparison

It's absolutely insane how far we have come in graphics in such a short amount of time. Like the PS3 to PS4 Skyrim jump is pretty incredible, but even then it still looks dated, the techniques used to construct these environments are so archaic -- the new stuff is even another jump after PS4 skyrim.

Also, are we sure that is PS3 Skyrim and not like PSVita Skyrim? It looks pretty bad haha.

yeaaaaaaaaaah .... Skyrim PS3 was right up there, maybe even worse, than Bayonetta PS3. A comparison with the 360 version would be slightly more favorable.

Is the PS4 version a bit stuttery or is it just me? Another case of bad frame pacing? Maybe ancapped 30fps that is between 30fps and 45?

I cant tell exactly. Could also just be youtube

I am underwhelmed by this. It looks better, but doesn't feel like a big improvement at all. Certainly not worth $60 to me for a 5 year old game.

There is a third option.

How about this being one of your favourite games ever and the chance to play it again after 5 years on a current system? Ain't rocket science.

That's not desperation. And I'm not a fool thanks.

Oh, I can totally understand it if you love the game. It's just the fact that the regular PC version released in 2011 still looks better than this remaster, and regularly sells for ~$10. That's all.

Something that will shock ALL of you:

Despite the PS3 version of Skyrim having a dismal reputation, I was able to complete the game and obtain the platinum trophy. It was before the game even had a major patch.

I do remember a few crashes here and there, but overall the game was playable.

I am apparently in the minority.

You are unequivocally , very, VERY freaking much in the minority sir.

PS3 Skyrim was apalling. I can not fathom how it was able to get shipped the way it did.

yeah i remember being pretty blown away by skyrim on 360 in 2011. graphics weren't insanely good or anything but i couldn't believe i was playing on the same console i played Oblivion on.

i guess 5 years is long enough to age any game these days but it just doesn't seem that long ago

Well, add me to the minority because I didn't really experience any issues with the game nor did I have any crashes. Keep in mind I bought this game around Christmas in 2011 so it wasn't a launch title. I don't know how the launch titles were.

$60.

You'd have to a fool or incredibly desperate to want this.
Will buy this. But no more than $30. If they can afford to give it free for PC players for free they can definitely sell this on console for much less.

But they know console players will still happily pay $60 for this, shame.

I guess the port is fine but damn, after playing and seeing witcher 3 this skyrim remaster looks like a 10 year old game

The Legendary Edition with all the DLC is like... $12-13 USD on CDKeys. Spending $60 is just... lol.

Well, if you have it with all DLC on PC you get this for free anyway -- only people stuck paying $60 are the ones who either are wanting it for PS4/XB1 or who won't have Skyrim + All DLC on PC by the cut off date.

Is their ANY advantage to the console versions over a good, significantly cheaper PC version?

Yes, I don't need a new PC to run this.

Edit2: This thread has become a shitshow of PC folks complaining about the console game price. *rudeness deleted*

no thanks bethesda

Yes, I don't need a new PC to run this.

unless your PC is absolutely ancient you can probably run it just fine. skyrim is not a hard game to run. I used to play skyrim on my old laptop's integrated graphics and the framerate was fine.

Meh really. After something like Witcher 3, this just looks downright poor. PC is easily the way to go.

Question for PC modders:

Do we think that now that the exe will be a 64 bit app, setting ugrids above 9 will be more stable?
I never bothered with uGrid because it affects the scripts and so it can easily fuck several events/quests, but from what I remember in Fallout 4, it was pretty stable.

Regarding the comparison, yeah it looks better but it was a well known fact that PS3 ver. was utter shit, perf and graphical wise.

I hope Boris will be able to easily adapt its work for this Special Edition, the potential is huge, more so than Fallout 4.

I know it's technically better in every respect, but is anyone else not crazy about the aesthetic here? The constant washed out haze over everything does not benefit every scene. And some of the HD textures are really flat and unexciting, but I suppose that's an effect of the new lighting and extra detail.

Edit: This thread has become a shitshow of PC folks complaining about the console game price. Why don't you guys GTFO?

I'm NOT a "PC folk". I almost never use it for gaming.

But the vanilla PC version is ridiculously cheap, even basic computers tend to run it pretty smoothly, and it's already got legions more mods and user upgrades that the console versions may never receive.

It's the same as asking "why should I get Mass Effect 3 on Wii U?" when the game was over a year old (Skyrim's now, what, five years old now?), at full price, and the entire trilogy was made available for cheaper on all other platforms.

Damn, that for $60? Was considering getting it for PS4 as I only played half the game on my cousins pc years ago and I enjoyed it but that's too much for what seems like minimal upgrades Guess I'll just get the switch version when it's budget priced at least the portability will be added value

To anyone recommending me the PC version instead:

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro with a Radeon 6770M and vanilla Skyrim ran like 1080p, everything maxed at 25 fps.

So, how will this serious graphics update run on that machine?

Oh wait, it doesn't even meet the new minimum requirements!
Skyrim Special Edition Minimum Requirements
CPU: Intel Core i5-750/AMD Phenom II X4-945
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 1GB /AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB

So I'd rather buy the PS4 version to play it on my upcoming Pro in native 4K rather than buying a new Mac or even building a gaming PC.

End of my part of the discussion, thanks.

Was hoping for something more in line with the flashy PC mods- maybe that's why they haven't really shown much of it till a week before launch?.

But Skyrim is in my top 10 so I'm in...

If CONSOLE gamers here complainign about the console price bothers you, maybe YOU need to GTFO?

No one cares about your personal gaming PC situation. The suggesiton is not for you and you cna safely ignore it. no need to start tleling people to leave the thread like a jerk.

I don't see any reason to get this on PS4, the graphics upgrade isn't substantial enough coming from the PC version and it's not even 60fps. If I am going to get it it'll be on the Switch because of the portability, Bethesda games seem great for that sort of thing.

Feel free to contact a mod if you have a problem with people, telling people to *GTFO* is not appreciated nor are you a mod.

Looks horrible and dated on ps4. Not much of a remaster really:(

I mean, it IS better than the old console versions, by and large.

But when you think about what some modders were doing four years ago...
100 Graphics Mods at Once
"It's like graphics that travelled back in time from 2017!"

It's comparable, at least, I think.

It may not be an overhaul like the ENB modes, but let's give it some credit.

Looks like a way better upgrade than I was expecting. I was already "in" - I never got to finish and really explore the original - but this has me excited.

Wanted to get it on PS4 since I never finished the game on PC, but I can`t cave in and support Sony`s inferior mod practice on the game. So much for "This is for the players". Maybe down the line they will change their mind and allow for better mods.

Considering how Fallout 4 looks as a generation apart from Skyrim and 5 years on, i'm surprised people are expecting Bethesda to make a game that looks substantially better in a remaster.

Holy damn I gotta get back into modding Skyrim, that's insane. Might make me actually finish the game too.

Seeing those screens just reminded me how much I hate certain parts of Skyrim. I liked the game overall but I hate that Dwarven Technology town with a bunch of underground rooms and dungeons.

Considering I only have a PS4, and even then we are getting gimped mod support, I'm probably not gonna get this on console, if at all.

I hate to be one of those guys and maybe it's just a case of what TES game you played first, but I liked Oblivion a lot more than Skyrim. I think I preferred the scenery. Skyrim is really gloomy and it tended to drag me down after a while.

Are mods expected to be out relatively quickly on pc for the remaster? Old mods won't work right? Will enb mods work on top of the remaster?

It's compatible with the already available mods:
http://wccftech.com/elder-scrolls-sk...e-skyrim-mods/
Not really, mods need to be repacked with the ba2 containers. The old bsa will not work. Texture may need to be updated to the streaming format too (I'm not sure about this part, I'm not in the beta) Also the old ENB binaries will not work, Boris will have to create a new one. Same for SKSE.

The nexus website for mods is treating it as a different game, so a new pages for mods.
