The draw distance and repeated textures stick out even worse at 1080p with the decreased contrast

Well the ps4 version will never look like those pc shots but the xbone version possibly could, right?

That would be the version to get outside the obviois pc one.

I cancelled my PS4 version for thr Switch. Decided that I can wait to get tvis game portable on the swith moreso than just having mods on Xbox and PS.

Not really, mods need to be repacked with the ba2 containers. The old bsa will not work. Texture may need to be updated to the streaming format too (I'm not sure about this part, I'm not in the beta) Also the old ENB binaries will not work, Boris will have to create a new one. Same for SKSE.

The nexus website for mods is treating it as a different game, so a new pages for mods.

Well, they must have changed their approach, then. Because back when it was announced at E3, we had this:

Recently, Bethesda’s Pete Hines confirmed that old Skyrim mods will apparently be fully compatible with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition.

i was kinda meh on the special edition footage until i saw this video. nothing mindblowing but it'll be worth playing through again.

interested to see how it plays on PC vanilla in 4K. i think it's crazy i'm getting this for free

Nah. The Xbox is limited to a certain amount of space, and they also have to worry about even being able to run the game in terms of stability performance wise as well. A lot of the more extreme visual mods won't be able to be enabled on either hardware without issues cropping up.

But XB1 WILL get certain visual mods that are cool, just not anywhere near the extent you see on PC.

Can you preorder the switch already?

Sorry can't pre-order yet, but its most likely gonna release on Switch. Just save up your money and wait till March 2017. I've olayed Skyrim last gen anf can wait 4 more months foe the SE edition on Switch when it becomes available.

Those PC shots of the last page? Lol no.

That's stuff that requires very beefy hardware and tons of mods stacked on top of eachother. These mods don't just carry over to Xbox.

I hope the frame rate in portable mode isn't a shit show for those looking forward to the Switch version. Personally, I'd have a hard time playing an open world title on a small screen, struggling to make out all the details.

It doesn't matter if it doesn't look as good as modded vanilla Skyrim on PC because the Special Edition is 64-bit and the mods for that will be even better without memory restrictions.

Jeez, this game has aged horribly looks/style wise. Even the PS4 version looks atrocious.

I remember thinking it was it gorgeous when it first came out on PC.

How times change.

That's Beth games in general. Look at Morrrowind from 2002 perspective: Pretty water and (okay, totally) ugly character models. Now it looks like ass.

Skyrim always looked like trash (imo). I couldn't get into that art style. I should give it another try. Played it at launch for a few hours then never touched it again.

I wish they would've remastered Fallout 3 and/or New Vegas over Skyrim, but all three games are very good and Skyrim is something I'll enjoy revisiting.

Too bad it's $79.99 CAD. It's a remaster, so they should've cut the price a bit...you'd think.

Based on the video, the PS3 version had pretty serious shadowmap flickering and object pop-in whereas the PS4 clips show none of that. That is a huge improvement which static screenshots don't show.

PS3 version was a pretty bad port, even at the time it came out.

ESPECIALLY at the time it came out.

I remember it won GOTY a few weeks later, at a time when my wife's copy was literally, completely unplayable. I always felt like that award should have come with an asterisk*.

*PC and Xbox 360 versions only.

I don't compare it to PC versions, since I don't play on PC. The appropriate comparison for me is to the previous console versions, and in that regard, it's a big step up -- although I do wonder about that yellowish haze that seems to be over most of the shots I've seen (seems a little odd).

I wouldn't mind paying $60 for it. Heck, I pay $60 for games that are one-tenth the length of Skyrim, and this is one of my favorite games from last gen.

I mean, it IS better than the old console versions, by and large.

But when you think about what some modders were doing four years ago...
100 Graphics Mods at Once
"It's like graphics that travelled back in time from 2017!"

It's comparable, at least, I think.

It may not be an overhaul like the ENB modes, but let's give it some credit.

Jesus, what kind of NASA computer do you need to run that shit?

The guys in the video keep saying how gorgeous and impressive it is but here I am just seeing awful textures and janky animation. The new cloud/fog effect looks nice, but this is hardly impressive even for a remaster.

For anyone who has played The Witcher 3 and plans on playing this, just you wait.

It won't only have aged, visually. It'll be boring as shit to play and completely soulless, coming off of The Witcher 3.

It looks a lot better but it's still pretty ugly. Outside of a few areas, it's just not a visually-pleasing game – it's so grey. I'm sure I'm in the (vast) minority, but I thought Oblivion was a much prettier game.

Cyrodil is just more aesthetically pleasing overall. green fields, blue skies, sparkling riviers ect... even on a low low end system its very pretty

geographically though skyrim makes oblivion look like minecraft.

$60.

You'd have to a fool or incredibly desperate to want this.
Or maybe it's one of my favorite video games of all time and having the chance to play it again with updated visuals and full mod support (I'll be playing the Xbox version) is something that I consider worth dropping $60 on.

Aside from all the awesome RPG elements that were missing from The Witcher 3. Don't get me wrong, as a linear adventure in a fantastic-looking world, TW3 is a great game, but I had a lot more fun just messing around in Skyrim and wondering off doing my own thing.

I loved the game on PS3, modded the life out of it on PC....and alas, i can bring myself to purchase for a 3rd time. Great for folks whove not played any version. Hundreds of hours of epic fantasy action awaits you.
