Skyrim Special Edition - PS3 versus PS4 Graphics Comparison

I have no idea why I got hyped for this after hating the combat in the original release. Just gotta wait for a sale.

Gonna make a thief type(daggers) character that can use magic.

Pretty consistent everywhere. I was surprised by how dense the foliage is - really adds something to the atmosphere. It's bloody brilliant.

Some first impressions:
The biggest problem of this game is that a bunch of textures and models look very dated. It sometimes feels like playing Fallout 4 with imported PS3 characters. Some of the NPC armor just doesn't look good at all. I'm surprised how dated the opening scene feels. Geometry looks pretty bad as well at times - or at least in Helgen. Once you can go into the open world, the experience gets much better in my opinion. Love the new volumetric lighting - much atmosphere. Riverwood and Whiterun are gorgeous in every way possible... it's kinda weird how bad my first impression of the game was back then on the 360 and now on PS4, just because the bad opening sequence. It gradually gets better and better after that. Awesome.

There are also no mods available on PS4 at the moment - no mod option on the main menu from what I can see.

The opening sequence felt dated even when the game launched in 2011. The terrible animations, scripting, everything looks and feels terrible.

how's the loading? I'm down to clown again if the loading is improved over the PS3 version.
Hard to say since I've only played the 360 version but it's definitely not quite as immediate as on PC and from what I can remember much shorter than on last gen consoles. Entering Whiterun for instances took a bit of loading back then, I assume 20 something seconds? Now it seems to be half or less of that. It should be 3-13 seconds depending on the building you're entering. Stepping outside somewhere is basically immediately from what I can see. I've only visited Whiterun and Riverwood so far and the loading times didn't bother me at all.

Good to know - it even lets you appreciate the Oblivion sewers :)

Something that will shock ALL of you:

Despite the PS3 version of Skyrim having a dismal reputation, I was able to complete the game and obtain the platinum trophy. It was before the game even had a major patch.

I do remember a few crashes here and there, but overall the game was playable.

I am apparently in the minority.

Had minimal problems with Skyrim PS3 myself, in fact can't remember anything major.

Now, Fallout 3...

Just watched Gopher's video about mods for the SE, and I just realized how many of the mods I want rely on the MCM. I wonder if that, or Sky UI could even be reworked for consoles.

For consoles its the highest PC textures out for vanilla.
High resolution texture pack?

You can use the High resolution texture pack from legendary edition on this new release for PC?

Wat? I'm talking about consoles. According to DF, the textures for this game are a match for the original 2011 release of PC skyrim on the highest setting

Any Aussie Gamers? Bethesda is giving away free Sweet Rolls. Not sure where to put this.

Do we have any vanilla PS4 vs Xbox One comparisons yet? I'm not sure if I should get it on the PS4 Pro for the graphics (1080p TV) or on Xbox One for the mods.

Xbox one for sure. You will appreciate the ability to mod your game now, plus the Xbox one version will get a Scorpio patch when it releases down the line.

Considering how far away the Scorpio is from release, I don't see this getting a patch for it unfortunately. I'd love to be wrong though.

Well when you take into account that Fallout 4 is going to get a VR patch on Scorpio (confirmed by Todd himself), I would be flabbergasted if this didn't get the eventual 4K console treatment to boot.

I'm not planning to buy a Scorpio though. I only play the exclusives on my One usually. I might go for the One version then. I love some of the mods I've seen for it already.

As someone who put hundreds of hours on PS3 getting immersed by the game, buying this on PC is gonna blow my mind lol Can't wait to start playing this weekend. :)

I don't care for mods, I just don't have a PS4 yet. Or else I would have bought the PS4 version. :P

Prepare yourself mate. Going from the PS3 version to PC is an eye opener. Especially because your now playing a TES games with 60+ frames.

Loooool, you don't care for mods. So naive.

You'll learn.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Literally the best thing about this game is its mods. Install one and its game over. Youll never stop

Is Bethesda doing the remaster themself or did they hire an external developer?

i do believe it's in-house. my understanding is this is a commercial version of the experimenting done on getting fallout 4 on modern hardware

Looks good to me on PS4 and thats coming from someone who played a heavily modded PC version extensively.

It looks like Skyrim. As long as the framerate is locked 30 then I'll be fine - not getting this immediately though, I'll wait until its a bit cheaper.

Repost, anyway...

Bit OT, but any idea cheapest place to buy SE in the UK for PS4. So far I've got ShopTo at 32.85, never had issues with them in the past personally. I missed the Smyths deal of 28.99 though as they're up to 33.99.

Are you amazon prime member? If so £32 with them (£34 if not)

So i ordered 2 copies off amazon, 1 ps4 (for a friend) and 1 xbone (for me). Ordered the xbox one a couple days before the ps4 one and sure as shit the ps4 one is already out for delivery and my copy is sitting a state away. Fuck you amazon. Its like they knew i was off work today and would have some time to play.

Edit: Im salty as fuck.

It's ready to preload on my base PS4 but I'm saving it for the Pro - native 4K baby.

This may be the only thing that makes me double dip on the PS4 version when I get the Pro. I will get the free upgrade on the PC, but if the framerate is decent on the Pro at 4K, I will probably grab it at $40 or less at some point.

It'll be 30. Should be locked. Getting it to run at 4K on PC is pretty easy at least.

Which reminds me, any mention of ultra wide support out of the box for the remaster on PC?

I'll never forget that and thinking "What the hell is this?" compared to those Oblivion sewers that had me thinking WOW

Yeah they should have simplified the intro like in the other games. It's also just tedious to ge through.

There's a mod called alternate start, IIRC, that fixes this.

I would love to pick this up on XB1 and get back to Skyrim after ages away, but I don’t want to restart with a new character. I know it isn’t a one to one save system, but it seems like they could afforded working out a solution to import saves between the consoles since they are charging full price for it.

Do we have any idea yet if there is going to be a performance difference between the console versions? I have the PS4 version pre-ordered as I assume it would perform better, even if marginally, but since it is a remaster of an older game, there may be no big gap. I am getting a PS4 pro (no 4K TV though), do we know if there are any 1080p improvements on the pro?

Its disappointing about the mod situation, but I haven't really messed with mods before. However, Id be more inclined to do so with the way it is being implemented on consoles.

Skyrim is one of my favourite games of all time so I'm really looking forward to this release, but cant figure out what platform to go for on consoles. I'm more concerned about the console version for my girlfriend as I am going to have this on my PC as well with the free upgrade and I have a GTX 980 card so I'm set there, but she prefers to play via console in the living room. I am curious to see how big a difference mods can make on a console platform, but I'm also concerned about performance too if there is a gap.
