Sleeping Dogs PC-exclusive features (DX11, HD textures, etc)

Yeah I was able to preorder DS for 33 bucks with a coupon, and sleeping dogs is really tempting right now, so much love for the port, hopefully Tomb Raider will get the same treatment.

All the other CD Tomb Raider ports have been FANTASTIC, so I would expect more of the same.

Probably because its a massive download and would be hard for certain people to get if through digital distribution.

For example if you have extremely slow internet or live in an area that has bandwidth caps. If you don't care about the extra visual fidelity or don't have the card to handle it anyways, why force them to go through the headache for something they don't need?

It also helps the console versions not seem as gimped *lol*... Though I think your theory is probably more accurate.

Wow! From that list it looks like one of the best PC versions of a multiplatform title in a long time. Too bad I'm not really into the genre.

Well said sir.

I wish more devs would do this kind of thing. It bugs the hell out of me when we we shitting console ports with little to no improvements. This is coming from a mid-40's guy that has been nothing but a console gamer until the last 8-10months and now I mainly ONLY game on PC.

from GTA IV

gta4_trailer1_009.jpg

This is the first trilaer of gta iv not the final game, anyway gta iv console has more than 4 years.

This is a 2012 game for pc.

GTX 570and i7, will I be able to have my game look like that and run smooth, at least 30fps?
Yeah, a few people in the OT with review PC copies have said good things about the performance on hardware lower than that.

Where is the cheapest pre order?
Always look to GMG, should be $35 at some point before release again, just use a 25% or 30% code that pops up on their front page or follow their Twitter account.

Maybe speaking too soon, but Eidos/Square-Enix is benevolent towards PC gaming. What pushed me to pre-purchased Sleeping Dogs was its history. Normally I'm fine waiting for the problems to be sorted out.
Deus Ex Human Revolution was a fantastic PC version and this looks the same yeah. Strange that I have a lot of love for Square this generation, mostly for non-jPRPG stuff! Very tempted to grab Hitman at $35 on GMG too!

Sounds excellent.

Wait, with "increased world density" they mean you can increase the number of NPCs? Because if so, holy shit.
There were sliders in GTAIV to do exactly that (increase NPC count and traffic at any time), so I'd assume that's exactly what this does.

It made the city feel much more alive and bustling compared to the largely empty streets on the consoles. Good stuff.

Hopefully this gets a preload and GMG gets the codes early enough so we can jump in on that if it happens. I dont want to have to dl 15GBs plus an HD texture pack on day 1.

Either way, this news makes me so happy. This comes out the same day as Darksiders 2. Next week is going to be awesome.

Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much I'll need to upgrade my laptop to play this game at the fidelity of that video? I think I'm shit out of luck, but anyway these are the specs of my laptop:

HP Pavilion d47
AMD A6-3400M APU w/Radeon HD Graphics 1.40GHz
8GB RAM, 800GB HDD, Win 7 64 bit

I'm a noob when it comes to upgrading PCs; not even sure how upgradable a laptop is. I know a stronger card is a given, not sure on motherboard, RAM, etc.

Not happening with those specs. At all.

Edit: Its actually a bit more powerful than I thought, quick lowly informed searches tell me you might be able to low it.

we need to know what type of AMD Radeon GPU

cpu, ram seem fine enough but probably not enough to run on maximum settings - mainly due to the laptops gpu's being severely underpowered. Most likely you will play at medium-low.

This actually is looking (visually/technically) very good. The game play looks more than above par for the course. I don't have the money allocation for this but I will keep an eye out on the PC version.

It has an AMD Radeon HD 6520G, integrated. No dedicated memory though. If that last part has no effect (dunno if the game demands gpu memory) he could possibly low it, yeah.

I'd recommend you go with the console version. Or just build a pc, its cheaper and wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more powerful than a new laptop.

AMD integrated will probably perform around the same as the consoles, if not a little better. Laptops aren't really upgradable at all.

oh darn, yeah get the console version, unless you have a gaming pc.

the PC version seems to be the bells and whistle version though, SE is really committed to the platform it seems.

Jumped on the GMG coupon deal. Thanks for the heads up, I thought that deal had ended yesterday.

This is my first GMG preorder. Am I correct in understanding that they don't send out keys early? The key willl show up on my account at some point on Tuesday?

Thanks for the replies guys; console version it is lol. That video just looked so much better than I was expecting. I just might build a gaming PC; my desktop is one of those all-in-one touchscreen jobs that my wife bought off HSN, and I can't upgrade that shit either!

It all depends on the publisher and how soon they deliver the keys. Some are done before release.

I bought Skyrim in pre-order from GMG, and ask then for the key when the game get in pre-load on STEAM, they send me the key with no problem.

It's Hong Kong, the fact that in various gameplay footage you actually have room to run on the streets is incorrect. This game NEEDS more NPCs so I definitely hope what you're saying is true.

Sounds excellent.

There were sliders in GTAIV to do exactly that (increase NPC count and traffic at any time), so I'd assume that's exactly what this does.

Not only a global setting (possible on the PC version, not likely on console), but often (I know this is the case of sleeping dogs) traffic and ambient systems are scaled back for missions and even side missions, not only for resource usage, but more importantly to ensure that gameplay is not hampered by having too many "obstacles" in the way.

Take for example a chase mission, scaling back the ambient system somewhat allows the designers to better ensure that the mission is balanced, and doesn't have frusterating situations where the traffic system hampered progression.

Since we don't know the context of either screenshot of sleeping dogs or GTA, we can't assume this is the "normal" density.

I should also mention that this variable density can also lead to bugs, where a mission set's a certain density, but doesn't release it once the mission is over (or just that it takes some time for the traffic to come back to regular densities).

In theory this would be good, however, from a gameplay perspective it probably wouldn't be fun. In sleeping dogs things like traffic density, and even the width of the streets were designed to ensure that you could still drive through traffic (between lanes, etc..) if you were skilled enough.

If it was a "realistic" hong kong, then you'd be sitting in traffic for hours on end, not exactly fun.

hrnz... cancel 360 preorder and pick up for pc? I'm in a scrape right now.
I would like to know if I could play this with higher settings than the 360 on my Laptop (i5 2.3 to 2.9 GHz, 8GB Ram, GT 540M).

No specs yet?

Of course.

OS: Windows Vista Service Pack 2
Processor: Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or Althon X2 2.7 GHz
Memory: 2GB
Hard Disk Space: 15GB

Canceled my 360 pre-order and went for PC instead. My PC should easily handle this. Not sure why I pre-ordered the 360 version in the first place. Oh well, I saw the light in the end.

Seeing a dev actually making a good PC version really makes me want to support them. Would this run on my MacBook Pro (Windows Bootcamp) with an Nvidia GeForce GT 650M?
