Sly Cooper 1-3: which one's the best?

I prefer Sly 1 or the others, though they are all good games.

Sly 1 just felt better structured to me. And ALL SLY GAMEPLAY.

I like 1 a lot, but it's probably my least favorite in the series.

2 is one of my favorite games period.

When 3 hits the mark, it's fantastic (The Cooper Vault level is the best in the series). But it misses the mark just as much.

Sanzaru really surprised me with how good 4 turned out to be.

2>4>3>1

Sly 1 by far. It's more of a platformer than the other ones.

I slogged through 2, and I don't know if I'll ever play 3. The sequels are just a chore to play, they make you play as the sidekicks and it's rarely fun.

Oh, should mention that the HD Collection ruins a boss in Sly 1.
The one thing Sanzaru messes up and it's that boss.

Redeemed with Sly 4 though, I guess.
Though the Platinum can go right to hell.

Sly 1 by far. It's a pure platformer, and it doesn't force you to play as Sly's shitty friends. It reminded me of the Sonic games in that regard.

1 >3 >>>>>>>>>>> 2

Lot of missteps in 2 that were corrected in 3. Surprised to see so many people here say it's their favorite.

Sly 1 for me. I liked the linear more platforming focus. The others 2/3 I enjoyed as well for their time, havent played 4.

I played through all three of them a couple of months ago (PS2 versions though) and found 2 to be a nightmare to slog through. It just boiled down to doing variations on the same stuff over and over and over again. People complain about the minigames in 3 but they felt less interesting in 2. That being said for the sake of fun the first game wins out by miles as it does away with forcing Sly's friends upon you.

If i ever replay them again, i'll be opting out of redoing 2 because 3 did it all better (although that being said i did enjoy exploring the worlds on 2, just not doing the tasks)

The first game has a different style compared to the latter two. If you want an experience more akin to Crash Bandicoot, play the first. Otherwise play the second.

Which boss? Only played the HD version of Sly 1.

i could only finish the first one. i despise bentley/murray, & playing their sections was painful...

i also despise zeke. sucker punch just doesn't 'get' sidekicks. they're all obnoxious, irritating, & very unfunny :( ...

1 is good up until the last world, which just has minigame galore.

I love hubs in games so I'd have to give it to Sly 2.

I remember enjoying 3 when I first played it, but I didn't even get halfway through it on the HD collection.

I did not like 4 at all, it felt like the developers just put stuff in it because it was in the other games.

2>1>>>3>>>>>>>>4

I believe the music is off during the Alligator boss.

I found the first one the most fun because I only really want to play as Sly, he's the star of the show, he gets to do all the sneaking around and he's the most fun to play as. I didn't like the sequels attempts to involve Murray and Bentley more often...they weren't were fun to play as honestly. And some of those boss fights in the first one were really fun, especially the musical one.

When I bought my PS3 last year, I made it a point to buy the Sly Cooper games, which I did in that Sly Collection for PS3.

I played through the first Sly Cooper and liked it a lot. It's a great platformer with a great cartoony style.

Sly 2 I liked a lot more than the first, even if it changed the dynamic of the gameplay to have you play as Sly's wacky friends. I didn't mind it too much.

I haven't really played through Sly 3 yet. I played through a little bit of the first level, but quit playing. It didn't leave a good first impression. I haven't touched it in over four months. I do know that there's a fourth Sly Cooper game, but I don't want to play it until I've finished the third game, and I will finish it in good time. It'll probably end up bring pretty good, but...I don't have a big desire to finish it right now.

1. That beautiful focused linearity, all killer no filler. I love all of them though. The open-ended heists in the other games fit the theme better.

I don't get how somebody can love 2 and hate 3, or vice versa. They're the same damn thing. Minor differences yeah, so you can have a preference, but jeez

question? is Sly 4 closer to 2&3 rather than 1?

Yes. Same open structure, lots of minigames, lots of characters. But you spend less time playing as Bentley and Murray, since you're often playing as Sly's ancestors and they play like he does, plus and minus a few special abilities.

2 is my personal favourite, followed closely by 1. Sly 3 is OK too, but I found the change of voice for Carmelitta pretty distracting, and I missed the collectables. Finding all the clue bottles in 1 & 2 gave you a good excuse to explore all the levels that I missed in 3.

This. I am very surprised by the love for 2, different people, different taste eh.
1 has best platforming, best level and best gameplay (time attack!).
2 tried something new and kinda succeeded but was too much of the same.
3 did better with more variety but was too long and overstayed its welcome.
Haven't played 4 yet but it seems more like 1 ? So looking good to me.

Best sly is no shitty friend sly anyway (kinda like sonic...).

Sly 3 is just a shorter, weaker version of Sly 2 (although there are some very cool parts and it's still a good game). It's very much like Jak 2 vs Jak 3 (Jak 3 is just an expansion pack that is like half the length).

2 made some improvements to the original, but something was lacking. Because of that, I hold 1 and 2 with the same weight. 3 however... 3 was just boring as hell and disappointing in general.
