As a result of the delay I will not:
-Buy any of your 1st party games that come out before march, like AW DoR. At least not until I'm all finished with Brawl.
-But any 3rd party games. I wasn't going to do this anyway. Sorry NMH.
-Visit the Smashdojo site. You don't deserve the hits.
-Turn on my Wii. Unless you put Yoshis Island or something equally awesome on the VC. HINT.
I have to focus on school anyway so it works in my favor.

Paper Mario before Super Paper Mario, and I'm not sure if there are any other such pairings that even apply.Meloche said:They've been pretty hit and miss with their Virtual Console marketing tie-ins before (they smartly gave us Super Metroid/Metroid prior to Corruption and SMB3 before Galaxy, but nothing else)

Kobun Heat said:Anyway, releasing Smash Bros. on VC after the release of Brawl would be profoundly retarded -- who'd buy it? -- so I'd have to assume it hits before.
DavidDayton said:The only problem here is that Smash Bros. is really the worst sort of game to play on the VC anyway... it's essentially entirely eclipsed by Melee and (soon) Brawl. The Mario Kart games have different tracks (at least), and the Mario Party games have different boards. However, there seems to be little reason to play SSB instead of a sequel -- yeah, the controls are different, but the core gameplay is pretty much identical or inferior to the Smash sequels. SSB is one of the very few games that seems utterly pointless to rerelease.

Kobun Heat said:Releasing Smash Bros. in the runup to Brawl's release is perfect timing -- right as hype is reaching fever pitch, they release it and get people to download it because they've got Smash Bros. on the brain and just want to have something to play before Brawl hits.

I'm just waiting that extra month. I have too many games to play anyway.
There's that, and the fact that they didn't really even promote the fact that Super Mario Bros 3 was coming out to the Virtual Console, unless you count Charles Martinet calling a bunch of the enthusiast press as major promotion; I don't. The closest they've offered to actually using the Virtual Console as a promotion-tool was that Month of Metroid they did back in August, and even that was kind of spotty. I can't say I'm particularly impressed with the sales numbers that Nintendo has released from the service, and I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that only the hardcore really even know about it or care to follow the weekly releases. Part of the problem stems with the fact that Nintendo is dripping games out when they should be pouring them, and also that they do nothing apart from releasing a press release to let people know which games are available (without any advance notice, either) on Monday. I don't think that lack of interest in Nintendo classics is the problem here, because otherwise all thoseKobun Heat said:Paper Mario before Super Paper Mario, and I'm not sure if there are any other such pairings that even apply.
I still play the original regularly in multiplayer (though I don't have a copy for myself... which is why I want it on the VC so badly), and it's not in the least 'completely eclipsed' by Melee. Yes the gameplay is similar, but the balance, the items, the stages, and the characters all behave very different. Throws do more damage and have more knockback, attacks are more prolonged and can't be escaped as easily, and overall the pacing of the game is quite different. Melee has more of everything and a more refined balance, which is why I ultimately prefer it. However, it doesn't in the least make Smash 64 obsolete and I anticipate I'll still enjoy playing it post-Brawl, just like I will play Melee from time to time as well.DavidDayton said:The only problem here is that Smash Bros. is really the worst sort of game to play on the VC anyway... it's essentially entirely eclipsed by Melee and (soon) Brawl.
Doesn't the Wii Shop channel scroll new titles within the mini splash screen? It tells you when the catalog was updated. They were showing off Pokemon Snap there too. Also, they make it easy to see the newest additions on the first screen when you connect to Wii Shop.Meloche said:Why do they not have a messaging service directly to Wiis letting people know of VC releases (obviously let people opt-out if they like)? Why is the Virtual Console never mentioned in any kind of advertisements (what little they do run, at least)? And why do they still not have a decent storage solution for people that are making use of the service? :|
