while i find mascoteering (tm me) revolting, with one mascot, the focus still remains on the game itself. with smash bros, the primary appeal is OMG LOOK AT ALL MY FAVORITE MASCOTS!! (cue twee squealing), and any defense of the mediocre-at-best fighting engine is wholly secondary

Oh, stop with the whining. It's a fun, multiplayer battle game. You don't like it -- fine. Lots of folks like it. I liked the Super Mario All-Stars Battle Mode, and this is like a very enhanced version of it.

Too bad that silly Snake guy demeans it all, but still...

i simply cannot fathom why a grown adult would care about smash brothers. any game could be perceived as "deep" if enough idiots play it, but why not leave children's games to the, well, children? there's a reason it relies on goofy, kid-targeted mascots!

The thing I don't understand is the hype over the online aspect. How can you play a game with friends with no voice chat?...just seems like no fun to me.

hey, i'd have no problem with the game if it featured generic space marines but retained its core mechanics, but then you underdeveloped little fruit loops wouldn't even give it a second glance, and i'd never have to winkingly endure these impassioned defenses of its so-called "depth"

I like Smash Brothers because it is a fun videogame.


And i think you need to look up what the word "mascot" means. Mario, Pikachu, and Sonic are mascots because they represent a large group (Nintendo, the Pokemon franchise, Sega, etc.).

Characters representing series' don't count as mascots. That's like calling Don Corleone the Godfather mascot.

This. I'm usually more into single player games myself, but Smash Brothers is always good for some quick fun. I couldn't care less if it has the same depth as Virtual Fighter 5 or not.
