Seriously how the hell is this even going to work

How it works is actually explained in the second update which is under the first one and I think most people missed it.

Pokémon change!
Characters

The Pokémon Trainer watches from the background.

Is... Is he issuing commands?!

He needs to use his three Pokémon to fight. So the only ones who fight directly are the Pokémon.

I guess you could say using this character is like playing three for the price of one!

And the Pokémon Trainer uses a special move called Pokémon Change to switch between them.

Good job, Ivysaur! Come back!

The returning Pokémon tags the next Pokémon.

Charizard! I choose you!

They swap out in a set order: Squirtle→Ivysaur→Charizard.

They all share the same damage meter, so they don’t recover from damage during Pokémon Change. But they also have another stat, which you might call stamina.

If you keep fighting with the same Pokémon, or if you change them out too often, it’s not so good for the Pokémon.

If you want to be a good Pokémon Trainer, you’ll need to learn these kinds of ins and outs.

I can't believe he found a way to make Charizard a fighter.

If you've played Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen, it sounds like Kankurou. He's off in the background controlling his puppet Karasu.

Have we brought up how awesome Charizard looks?

Because that's really damn awesome.

The Pokemon switch thing could potentially be cheap during fights I guess when he calls it back?

I'm guessing it'll damage the pokemon a bit, like 20% or something. Or maybe it's really quick and only does like 10% damage.

He says switching often isn't smart.

To what I was thinking?

Oh, I thought you were comparing it to something else.

It'll be interesting to see the movesets of these Pokemon, and I wonder what happens if you're bad with the rotation: do the Pokemon slow down? Do they attack for less damage? Do they take more damage?

Lots of variables, so I like it.

Guys I think this deserves its own thread. Hell Ike deserved his own thread. There are plenty of people who are interested in Brawl who don't check the website. I'm gonna go ahead and make it.

Cool. This is probably the only new Pokemon character I would've approved of.

I think it's clever that "Ash" stays in the background all the time, but what happens to him when you fight in a stage like Donkey Kong's or in Skyworld when the floor drops out.

Actually, how the hell do you knock him off the stage?

What?

Woah it's really cool, I justed realized the pokemon trainer doesn't even fight he just stands in the background and changes guys. That's badass. It is basically just having each one of the three playable but interchangeable.

Hopefully something suitably comical. :D

I'm now thinking there's going to be a lot more new characters than I first expected.

Without secret characters, I was only expecting a couple of newcomer profiles in the updates. Maybe one a month.

But already we got two characters we hadn't heard of in two weeks.

This is getting exciting.

Excellent... My only question would be... How will the background character survive the explosions of the Space Armada from the Star Fox stage? or the changes in background from Delfino Plaza? Or if there is a Metroid Stage with lava or something?

Big Icarus already asked the same question (essentially), but I realized something: look at him in Skyworld -- he's so far removed that destroying the platforms would make no difference.
