Assist Trophies are trophies that come to the aid of the player that called them out.
But these may not always be solid objects...
Th-theyre pixel art!
And there are tons of pixels racing around!
I think that in Smash though, appearances are rarely what they seem.
Just because theyre flat doesnt mean you can
take them lightly.
By the way, theres also an Assist Trophy for this guy...
Lakitu and Spinies! He just tosses em down,
one after the other.

Excitebikers aren't too bad, but why not model Lakitu and the Spinys? There is a pretty decent Lakitu trophy in Melee, why not use that?
I don't get how they are determining which assist characters to fully model, and which ones to just use a sprite texture for.

-This is the 9th assist trophy update. (8th if you don't count Lakitu, but I do.) This means that it ties with character moves for number of updates, but is still behind regular items, final smashes, Smash 101/techniques, music, stages, and character profiles.
-Lakitu is the 10th Mario update if you count it as an update. And if you count Petey Piranha as well. Mario's place in the hierarchy of number of updates per series wouldn't change even if you disregarded both, though--it would still be ahead of everything except Pokemon.
-Assuming you count this as a double update, it's the 14th day where two or more updates came at once. It's the 2nd occurrence of two double updates on consecutive update days. (The first occurrence was Pokemon Stadium 2 + Mario's FLUDD being followed up by My Music + Pokemon Stadium music + SSBB main theme.)
-Of the 9 known assist trophies, Excitebike is one of 3 that comes from a series with no playable character in Smash Bros.

while they are still cool, giving Lakitu his own update would be like giving an untouched midi from an older nintendo game its own update, they save them for the big things.
I'm guessing these two are better left as sprites because they'll spawn so many things on screen at once...Big Icarus said:

Yeah, that sounds pretty accurate. At least it's better than what I assumed the real reason to be (saving time by using simple textured planes)
