Im positive there will be no 3rd party assists, if you got the license for one, youll make him a full character, not just an assist, thats not smart.

In most cases, the licenses might include the secondary cast too though, not only a single character - just look at Snake - several supporting characters of MGS appear in the Codec conversations. So, they could include Assists of 3rd party characters whose series already are represented in the game, if the license includes the entire franchise, and not just one face.

I'm interested in that too. I reckon its going to have something to do with the three goddesses in the zelda games. They'll appear on the screen and do a combined attack or something along those lines.
Oh that would be amazing to see in her Final Smash. I loved the scene in OOT showing the goddesses creating Hyrule.

Little Mac should've been playable.

And with Bald Bull as an Assist Trophy.

And Lyndis should've been playable.

And Captain Falcon/Ness/Jigglypuff/Mewtwo/Marth/Mr. Game & Watch/Cel-Shaded Young Link better be playable.

I'm starting to think that Ness will be playable, since Lucas doesn't seem to share the same moves (unless the snake is replacing his yo-yo, and if PK Love acts like PK Flash somewhat).

EDIT: Oh, and Starfi.

I know that I'm a little late on this quote, but,

Why did people think Little Mac would be a playable character?
Because people on the internet said they wanted him in, and had such high hopes that got other people's hopes up too. So then they started expecting him to be in because they had such high hopes, and then people get mad and disappointed when he's not a playable character, or not in the game. Now people are doing the same thing with Mega Man.

Someone makes a wishful or speculative statement, someone else receives it as fact. Same thing happened with the idea that there would only be one Smash Ball per round. It never, ever said that anywhere on the Dojo site or anywhere else, but someone mis-interpreted it to mean that, and the internet ran away with it.

ohhhhh....

but yeah, never played [Punch-Out!!] :/

It's on VC for 500 points. Buy it now and understand what pure, concentrated awesome looks like.

Seriously, you're doing yourself a disservice by not playing this game.

Indeed. I'm expecting Tails, Knuckles, Shadow the Hedgehog, Syphilis the Cat, Mongo the Mongoose and Sonic's other great friends to make assist trophy appearances too.

Both :(

Classic Mega Man because he is more iconic and I love retro characters

X because he has a cooler, more interesting design/moveset potential, and I enjoyed his games more

As long as we get one of the two and not any of the other crappy desgins I'll be happy! (Classic has a much much better chance than X, btw)
I would prefer classic Mega Man if he's going to be in Brawl.

I see what you mean, but X does have a more fitting moveset. I guess, nothing is stopping Megaman from having a few X moves.

Classic and X's designs are similar enough that the one they picked will likely have the other as a pallete swap ( as well as the Helmetless Legends Model ). X's moves weren't that much different than Classics either, atleast not by default....

The Slide of Classic Vs. Dash of X is the only difference I see them go one way or another. Every other move I see them pulling from the enemy weapon move pool rather than one of X's armor upgrades or rush/item adaptors. ( although Rush coil would work alot like Sonic's spring ).

As far as Final Smash, There can be only one ( Top Spin ).

You actually jot down things people say like doubting Marth?

I wonder what horrible dirt you have on me D:
It was a Zeed request in the last couple of pages. >_> Actually, I really want to know how many think Jigglypuff is out, but unlike for Marth I can't really search the thread to find that out, since people will call it Jigglypuff, Jiggly, Jiggy, Jiggs, Jiglypuff misspelled, etc. D:

I knew Red/Ash would be a tough one to make but they're doing THAT, and they don't do Little Mac? :lol ......... ;( damn.
But they're really not doing Red. He's just background scenery. >_>

Even if you've completed Super Punch Out?

Yes.

Why would you play through Super Punch Out and not be interested in playing Punch-Out!!?

Sure, SPO looks nicer with bigger sprites, and 16bit graphics, but PO is the original, and it perfected it's own formula.

To me it looks he came straight out of Kamogawa gym. Either way he doesn't look American.
Yeah, he looks Japanese to me, too. Maybe he's Italian/Japanese-American.

I'm still kinda bummed he's not a regular character. Even though his moveset would be limited due to him throwing only punches, I'm sure a variety of moves could be made for the guy - see Balrog from SFII or Steve from Tekken.

I would have liked it if he was able to accumulate stars from meeting certain criteria (counter hits, KOs, or something) and then being able to use them for a monster hit. It would sort of be like DK's wind up punch or Samus' charge blast, but instead of charging up the move by holding B, you would charge it up through other means. A shoryuken style up+B would have been sweet. Dashing punch/combo with repeated presses (like Marth/Roy's side+B) would be sweet. Geese Howard style Raging Storm down+B would be sweet too.

BTW, what's with all this heated debate on whether or not Marth will be in it? Is it that big a deal? Besides, he's most likely in. It would be ridiculous to ditch him now.

I think he would be uninteresting compared to the others, I mean you've got guys who can fly, throw fireballs, throw boomerangs, etc... and little mac? he's got punches. I'm glad he's not playable
Ramenman said:
Agreed.

If he had been, all the people bitching right now about WTF AT??!!1! would have been bitching a month after launch because of "omg lame".
You guys are cray-zee! Little Mac would have been so awesome playable.

I'll fight you all!

Same here. That was one of the most memorable scenes in OoT. I'd love to see the three goddesses being part of zelda's final smash.

Obviously would've been better as a playable character, but after Punch-Out didn't get acknowledged at all as a series in Melee, I still consider this a huge step up.

I pray for

Ganondorf

Captain Falcon

Megaman

Zero

and

Eirika.. (or eliwood)
I really want to see ganondorf. It'll be interesting to see what they do with him. Are the going to give him the same moves last time or will they change it so that he and captain falcon have different moves? I think they will change it so that he doesnt have the same moves as falcon, but I dont want them to change it because ganondorf had one of the best movesets in melee. Even though falcon and ganondorf had the same movesets, I cant use falcon because he just moves too quick, but I'm relaly good with ganondorf because he;s a lot slower.

Doesn't it sound a bit boring to have too highly similar characters from the same franchise, though? I mean, at least Marth and Roy looked different, but Marth and Ike looks exceedingly similar.

If they're going to use another blue-haired character from the Fire Emblem universe, I'd rather have Hector or Lyn (though Lyn is already out of the question).

So yeah, I don't think Marth will be it. If anyone, it's gonna be Roy -- or perhaps Eliwood? We'll see.
well appearance-wise, ike and marth do look very alike, so maybe that will be a reason for excluding marth, but i dont see that as being a big enough reason.

Yeah, what's great about Melee Ganondorf is that a greater part of his moveset is actually useful compared to C.Falcon (who doesn't really have a lot of shitty moves to begin with, but still). Falcon Kick is garbage and d-tilt isn't that great, but Ganondorf's counterparts of these moves are really effective.

Hopefully Black Bull/Blood Falcon is in with the same moveset and physics.

Your Little Mac moves sound so cool! :D

Oh well, we can always hope he's playable in the Smash Bros 4.

I want Ganondorf to at least keep the important unique moves he had, which were his forward air and more importantly the best neutral A in the game--that electric jab that did like 7-8 damage. That thing's way too cool to get rid of it entirely.

Everything else can change and I wouldn't mind that much, even though Ganondorf was somewhere in my rotation of seven. Maybe create a new version of the stomp, since a move like that makes sense for a character who's imbued with the Triforce of Power, and the aerial backhand was also good. And if I had to change the forward smash for either Ganondorf or Captain Falcon, Captain Falcon would be the one to lose the elbow.

As for the other moves... up air, neutral air, up smash, down smash, up B, up tilt, forward tilt, down tilt, and probably down B seem too flexible for Ocarina of Time Ganondorf, and too hand-to-hand for Wind Waker Ganondorf. Forward B actually works for him, though. Neutral B makes sense, but it should still go just because the Falcon Punch must belong to the good Captain alone. :D

Isn't Ganondorf's F-air the same as Dr Mario's ?
Neutral B should be that thing from OoT where he pounds the ground and releases a shockwave.

I thought that Ike's Eruption move was similar to Marth's neutral B move, but looking closer I don't see Ike using a sword in the picture. I wonder how that move works. I think Marth still has a pretty good chance of being in, but he might be an unlockable now.

I probably wouldn't have minded if they took him out before, but now that they are releasing a remake for DS it would be kind of a bummer.

Yeah, Ganondorf's forward air has the same general animation as Mario/Dr. Mario, but because he has longer arms compared to them, it feels different in practice. At least it does to me.

He sticks his sword in the ground and releases a wave like attack?

As said before, the update types that haven't happened this week are:
Character profile, character movie (seems to be only for third-party characters so far), final smash, special moves, normal item, story mode, and music.

Previous numbers of each update type:
Character profile - 22
Character movie - 2
Final smash - 12
Special moves - 11
Normal item - 10
Story mode - 7
Music - 12 (/13 if Cooking Navi on the Japanese site counts)

Out of 22 weeks of updates (once this update happens), if it doesn't have X update type, then this week will have been...
-1 of 5 weeks without a character profile
-1 of 20 weeks without a character movie
-1 of 12 weeks without a final smash
-1 of 12 weeks without special moves
-1 of 13 weeks without a normal item
-1 of 16 weeks without a Subspace Emissary update
-1 of 12 weeks without music

I'm going to call an update of Captain Falcon. I was originally going to say a double update with F-Zero music, but actually, looking back, no veteran character has ever come as a double update unless it was either with a second veteran character or the movie from E3.

The way things are happening this week, im not expecting anything really big to happen tomorrow, since the Stadium: Home Run Contest is considered 'big' for the week. My guess is a Final Smash, probably Ice Climber's, not had any updates for them yet

If they don't start revealing at least some once-unlockable characters, then the pace of revealed characters is going to significantly slow down from here on out. Which I think is very possible, incidentally, but just saying.

Edit: Also, I'm going to add to my Captain Falcon prediction and say double update including a movie tonight. Like I said, the only veterans who came with a double update either came with a second veteran (Mario/Link, Kirby/Pikachu) or with the movie from E3 (Donkey Kong). I forgot about E For All, so I'd say getting a character profile and movie in the same day is possible again. :D

By the way, now that we know about alternate costumes (Wolf Fox, etc.), does anyone want to change their opinion on Marth being in once again? :D I'm still saying he's in as I've done from the beginning, but hey, just asking for the sake of the tracking experiment.

Assist Trophies are like little character updates for me, so I'm good. I hoped he was a playable, but eh.. can't win 'em all.

@Haunted: Joe for prez!!1
I wonder if the Viewtiful Joe AT will be an active one, punching/kicking the others, or an indirect AT (like the Devil), messing with the time perception. Something like 10 seconds bullet time, and 10 seconds sped up gameplay when Joe gets thrown/activated on the stage?

I've changed my opinion on Marth when the Lucas update hit a couple (20?) pages back. Add the fact that the FE DS game is a remake of FE1.... and yeah, Marth should return.
