haha!

Also, I think this week has been decent. The Pokemon update is nothing to come running home about, but it's good to know trophies are back, and the the Mr. Resetti update was neat. Plus, Sakurai is obviously gearing up to confirm the..

Also, Wario final smash.
They already showed the fart move. It was in his special move update.

We don't know if he has another separate fart move for his Final Smash. I'd personally doubt it, but to say it's different is more speculative than to say it's the same.

So, what's to prevent this from being Fighter GOTY? I feel it'll be dismissed because it's a sequel, it's Nintendo stuffed, and it's a "party fighter" on the Wii.

So, why is this game going to be... I dunno, disregarded? I feel it will be.

pretty spot on really, most GOTY things come from all sectors getting in a room, nintendo, sony, xbox, PC players or reviewers.. and most tend to enjoy shooters or serious games.

It has a huge chance of getting GOTY for any nintendo site, mario galaxy being its rival there.

but FUN, and the whole party aspect will be looked upon as making it a multiplayer game.

which is sad and pathetic when we look at halo 3s 7hour single player game , it too is a multi player game, but will no doubt be thrown about as a GOTY idea.

in other words, FUN isnt GOTY, FUN is... fun, the real winner is the game that we go back to year in and year out. mario kart 65, super smash bros melee. the real winners.

just got back from a trip. the past two updates are hilarious :lol

I love the Mr. Resetti lecture, and "It's Super Effective!" is a classic

What the hell are you trying to argue here?

Cool update...
Really boring though because I knew it was coming. Right when I saw the screens there was no excite because I had already seen the images in my head the day Pokemon Trainer was unveiled.

Super Effective! is awesome though.

Question is a bit off topic, but I'm wondering how popular this game is going to be outside of the gaming community. I'm looking at how it's eclipsing the Halo thread on Gaf..BUT

Do you think there will be lines outside on release-day at retailers? It doesn't seem like there would be.

EDIT: Actually the Halo thread is ahead, my bad.

Smash will probably be the best selling Nintendo game this year . Smash for GCN was very very popular. Make no mistake.

the selling power of melee was remarkable for a failing console.

brawl will be the 2nd best selling game this gen after halo 3.

If we keep getting one character updates almost every week we could end up with upwards of 12 more character reveals. That sounds like too much though

I am expecting 40 characters overall (including hidden characters).

So 12 more normal characters doesn't seem like a stretch.

Yeah I don't think we'll get that many character updates before launch. I do see having more video updates especially after the Nintendo conference in October.

Smash Bros. Brawl will most likely be the featured game at the conference and the media will finally get to play the game. So with all the video the media will be flooding us with, I hope the official site will do the same. :D

Melee was the best selling game for the Gamecube.

I think Brawl, once the hype is out, will sell quite well over its lifetime. Maybe not "BIGGEST OPENING FOR ANYTHING EVER" well, but well.

Yeah especially since there won't be a $100 special edtion of Brawl. Although I do wish Nintendo would make cool limited editions of their big games.

But they don't need to. The game's quality sells its self.

I just want to know if there's going to be camp-outs for this game. The last camp-out line I went to was the WoW Burning Crusade expansion with my sister (she plays, I can't stand the game).

It was like going to a giant nerd convention, LOTR jokes, Star Trek shirts, the whole 9 yards.

It was one of the worst experiences of my life.

two days ago we had diddy final smash... so is this the first "same kind of update within a day distance" case?
There have been closer than that. Not going to list them all, but Link's and Pikachu's final smashes were on consecutive days.

There are only ten weeks left counting this one. Going by the previous ratio (18 update weeks, 3 having no character profile), I'm expecting nine more characters. >_>

I kind of hope there's a Brawl + soundtrack SKU. I'd be all over that.

This is the THIRD post you've made about Smash Bros being at this conference. Given that almost everyone is pretty sure that this is a retailer's conference--the lone person who disagrees being Jonnyram who thinks this might be a slightly more substantial product strategy conference--I really have no idea why you think there's going to be playable Brawl there.

You know you bring up an interesting question though...

Why the heck have they NOT allowed for playable brawl by this time, 3 mos before its release? I played Melee at E32k-whatever and it as a longer time off.

Hmmmmmmmmm

Where else do you think Nintendo is going to show the media the game? It has to be sometime soon.

Yeah, this game is going to have some serious legs sales-wise, imo. I bet it will be one of the best selling games of the generation, even if initial numbers aren't staggering.

because Nintendo keeps shit more secret than ever. Remember Zelda TP? 1 week before it was coming out review media played it for the first time. (full game)

Downloadable Brawl demo September surprise, believe.
No, don't believe. It won't happen. :(

What's really going to interest me is how well this does compared to Melee. Nintendo's other massive series with long legs series, Pokemon, was on a downward trend with each new installment until Diamond and Pearl... which, presumably, reversed it because of either WiFi or the faster-growing userbase of DS compared to GBC and GBA.
But Smash Bros. Melee was up from N64 Smash Bros. despite being on a worse-selling system. I wonder if the upward trend would have continued even without online... And with online, I'll be interested to see the numbers compared to SSBB. And then there might be some impact from the third-party appearances. All depends on how many people have the Amir0x mentality where they'll buy anything if it stars a character they love--worked for Gamecube Soul Calibur II.

As always, I'm hoping for a Ness or otherwise Earthbound related update tonight.

But if I can't have that, my second wish is for a Metroid update seeing as it's, aside from Mother, the most unfairly underrepresented Nintendo franchise.

Counting on a character for all kinds of reasons I've already said.

Mario's had three characters so far. Pokemon, Kirby, Metroid, Donkey Kong, and Zelda have had two each. Kid Icarus, Yoshi, Ice Climbers, Metal Gear, and Wario have had one each, and with the possible exception of Wario, they're all likely to only have one representative period. Fire Emblem and Star Fox have also had one character each and are very likely to have more.

That leaves F-Zero, Mother, and Animal Crossing as the likely candidates in my mind. Of those, I'll go with Mother, Lucas for tonight.

Wikipedia has SSBM as having outsold Halo 1, actually.. Don't know how accurate that is, though.

That's correct, it outsold Halo 1 (worldwide), but not 2. I expect Dec sales of Brawl to be high, maybe even as high as a million, and it'll have legs throughout the entire gen like Melee did.

...I wonder if Melee will finally drop to $20 (it's been the only Player's Choice at $30 for years) when Brawl hits.

Preorder bonus. Believe.

(I want to play on Saffron City again)

Tommorow update needs to be big enough to cover this whole week. Where is my Newcomer? I might stay up for tonight since i have no school friday.

Saffron City rocked. I have fond memories of always tricking the Pikachu in the 1P mode into Quick Attacking itself to death on the side of the far right skyscraper, and getting my 30,000 bonus points for the Pacifist Award.

That would awesome. But it's so awesome that Nintendo won't do it. :lol
It wouldn't as awesome as Collector's Edition SSBB with a 1' 6" Stainless Steel Kirby Hat 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 trophy pack-in.

Nintendo has tons of options for marketing SSBB. Such a tactic probably won't affect sales at all but it's still nice to throw your fans a bone (or in this case a 16 oz. prime cut sirloin) every now and then.

I'd sell my soul for Geno

But they did do something even awesomer, so who knows? I'm talking about the OoT Master Quest bonus disc with TWW pre-orders. Best pre-order bonus in the history of games :D

Friday updates are usually good, actually.

Could Sakurai want to get the Final Smashes out of the way for the Lucas/Tingle/Geno/Sonic reveal tomorrow?

ohamsie said:
Yeah, that was a nice pre-order bonus. I don't think SSBB will get one though, but I suppose it is possible.

Now they wouldn't need to even waste extra discs, just slip a sheet of paper with a code into the first 100,000 copies that allows a free VC download. BEWIIEVE.

Never know, this would make more sense as a third party character than even Sonic. It was a first party licensed game, but developed third partily.

It makes perfect sense but I'm afraid that Nintendo forgot about this small part of SNES' history. I feel like Sora has a higher chance of being Square's representative in SSBB than Geno.
