Smash Bros Brawl Dojo Official Update Thread: Goodbye, Cherry-don

I think it's safe to say it's official. Sakurai will never post an update on it's own again. It will always have something to go with it (unless it's MEGATON).

Awesome.

Haven't seen the tank in a while. I never played Assult so I have no idea if it's in that.

The pic with Lucas and Diddy is awesome.

Landmaster

It’s the brute tank of Team Star Fox – the Landmaster. Surely he wouldn’t bring that thing out?!

LANDMASTERRR!

BAROOOMPH!

fox_071004c-l.jpg

Yayyy! It’s a free ride!

Don’t ride the Landmaster!

Jump to hover. Tilt the Control Stick down to roll. And, of course, fire its cannon with the attack button.

FIRE! This hurts. A lot! So watch out!

It’s so big, it might be hard to turn around. But its rule-breaking power and authority are unstoppable.

Yeah. It’s cool. My heart’s aflutter.

Fox does a barrell roll.

Don’t ride the Landmaster!

SO AWESOME. That Final Smash is just hilarious! Made tonight a good update.

Nice to see Sakurai pairing a less-than-impressive update (the dodging one) with something more intriguing like Fox's Final Smash.

Shouldn't the U.K. version read differently? "Yeah. It's the dog's bollocks. My heart's aflutter."? Something?
They only adjust spelling, not the wording. Oh and they sometimes remove information because NoE is to lazy to translate for the other countries.

Once you know how to attack, the next thing you have to think about is avoiding enemy attacks. That’s where the shield button comes in handy.

basic06_071004a-l.jpg

You guard against your enemy’s attack with your shield!!

Shielding against attacks is a top priority. Because if you don’t get attacked, you can’t get done in! However, the more attacks your shield takes, the smaller it gets.

basic06_071004b-l.jpg

If your shield breaks, you lose consciousness.

But more important than guarding is dodging.

You just tap the Control Stick in a direction while holding the shield button.

basic06_071004c-l.jpg

Tap the control stick down to do a sidestep dodge!

basic06_071004d-l.jpg

Tap it backward to do a backward-roll dodge!

basic06_071004e-l.jpg

And tap forward to do a forward-roll dodge and get behind
your opponent!

If you can do these moves, your enemies will have a hard time landing their attacks. And they make you momentarily invincible, so using them proactively is OK.

Use these moves as much as you can even before you get used to them. Sometimes things become clearer that way.

Edit, previous post already got it.

Now with another Final Smash, here's how the remaining moves officially look so far:

The dodging is interesting to read. It seems you can dodge into the background? Dodging seems more involved now

no, that's just your run-of-the-mill sidestep.

it was in melee

Pretty cool final smash for Fox being able to control the Landmaster. Hopefully they'll add Slippy's voice in the background talking about it like in Starfox 64. :lol

Looks completely unchanged.

Fox's final smash looks very effective.

Peppy's "Do a BARREL ROLL" or bust

is it me or does this sound like an endorsement of wave-dashing?

Yea this kick ass. Hopefully he will continue this because honestly however cool final smashes may be or other updates that are less than steller he could fill the rest of the time up with move updates which would suck. Even if you dont like the double update at least it kills two birds with one stone.

BAROOOMPH! :lol

Nice update. :D

I really hope Brawl features a screenshot tool that lets you save the screens as jpgs on the SD card.

The landmaster tank looks freakin' sexy. But it's really curious that they went with that instead of an Arwing final smash... Surprised no one else has brought that up yet.

Maybe Falco will jump in an Arwing for his? :D

I'm not sure wavedashing is what you think it is.

i've never tried it but i've seen some clips on youtube and read a little about it. it always seemed like a sort of low-to-the-ground air dodge technique that allowed you to slide quickly along the ground...a proactive evasion.

can you tell me what i'm getting wrong?

The conclusion that he is endorsing wavedashing does not logically follow from the text saying to roll and sidestep a lot.

So the speed-oriented Fox has a final smash that seems to be a slow, but devastating tank.

"Slow" being a relative term, of course - but even Sakurai mentions that it'll be slow to turn around. Interesting choice - they could've gone with something more speedy (Arwings) instead, but didn't. Gonna be really interesting to play.

Will we get a Final smash in the other direction, from heavy-hitting slow character to quick 'weakling'? Do we even have any heavyhitters left?

btw, you guys are missing the secret third update:

Taunts for Zelda, Diddy, and Lucas
In that case her taunt is as unobtrusive as ever. I never noticed her in any of the screens until you pointed her out. >_>

Also HOLY POO AT SNAKE'S BUTTCHEEKS

Stats.

-This is the 15th double update (including triple updates), if you count yesterday's Lakitu in addition to its Excitebike. This is the only time there have been three double updates in a row.

-Fox's final smash is the 6th Star Fox update. That means it's tied with Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong for number of updates, as well as Kid Icarus and Kirby--if, for those two franchises, you count the Pit's Descent movie and the Meta Knight moves built in to the special moves update. Star Fox is ahead of Yoshi, Metroid, Wario, F-Zero, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Mother, Ice Climbers, and Metal Gear.

-Shielding and dodging is the 11th Smash 101/techniques update, and Fox's final smash is the 11th final smash update. The two update types are tied with music, behind character profiles and stages, and ahead of everything else.

Edit:
-This week has received a character profile, a "character" update (the Snake movie), a stage, two assist trophies, a Smash 101, and a final smash. So far, no character moves, no normal item, no Poke Ball, no game mode, no story mode update, and no music.

The proactive part sounds right, but calling it an evasion... I don't know if I'd go there. At least from what I've seen and played against, the players who fully incorporate wavedashing into their game often use it to close the distance between themselves and the opponent, getting closer to danger (for both sides) rather than avoiding attacks. Especially significant for chain grabs or moves like Luigi's Up B that require a really close proximity.

Then again, maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean by "evasion." >_> I'm just saying, there's no real element of protection involved in wavedashing.
