Why would you want a character creator in a game focused entirely on franchise characters, both from Nintendo and a select few third party characters?

This. Same goes for using your own music or creating your own levels.

You can, I'm just not totally sure why people are so crazy about this update.

You don't have a little brother or sister do you?

Sharp said:
This is good, I guess. But. If I'm playing with a friend, wouldn't it make more sense to, uh, just do a vs. battle? That's why I like Smash.

Not always. I know that sometimes my friends and I need a break from the high level of stimulation provided by vs. competition - in Melee we would usually do a few rounds of team battle against CPUs, but in Brawl we'll probably get some mileage out of this mode too.

That's like suggesting a tactical RPG mode for Mario Kart.

For people that want to make their own Little Macs or Mike Jones if they don't show up in the game. Plus technically it could be part of the franchise if the set-up was similar to Mario Paint where you would have to create the animations too. This is a hypothethical bizarro list anyways.

well its good for me because I played melee with my brother more than anyone else, so the more modes there are for us to play together, the better. Vs battles are still going to be the best mode in brawl, but its nice to have another mode where two people can play together.

People are associating Subspace Emissary with Kirby Super Star, and this new update seems to be in that direction too.

I think we can safely assume this is skyworld, as Mario+Pit are fighting in the first level, the steep dropoff in the foreground is probably a cliff, and the platforms are quite similar to the platforms in the skyworld stage.

Ooh, now this I like. If they did include a playable Mii character with its own moveset, it would make sense to rip it from the Wii range of games - boxing gloves, baseball bat, shooting range gun etc. (a little like Mr Game & Watch, in fact)
Yeah, that's not crazy at all! I've been hoping for it for a long time. I think it would make the most sense for miis to be on the starting roster, though... therefore I predict they'll be announced within the next few weeks!

alt costumes and a level editor are the two last things I'm hoping for. Co-op was the top of that list, but here it is! :D

Alt costumes I think are pretty likely, and I could care less if a level editor doesn't make it, but it'd be a really cool addition
Word, that'd be awesome. But what I REALLY want is a more advanced picture-taking mode! I absolutely loved camera mode in melee, I got so many great pictures...

Yeah, I have fond memories of manipulating two controllers with my hands and 1 with my feet dozens of times to get the perfect picture... *reminiscenscesces*

Personally, one thing I think that's been really missing so far is match replays. Save them, send them to friends, and view them with pause, camera control etc. That would be something I'd find great, unlike this adventure mode which I will never play after I unlock everything.
This is what I really, really, REALLY want. Now we've got online and coop, it's at the top of my wishlist. I'm already predicting we can take pictures anytime we pause the game (based on the fact that that camera mode's missing from special melee.) But it's be UBER-COOL if we could pause, choose to save the last 10 seconds of play (entire matches might be too big), and then edit camera angles at our leisure.

Incidentally, here have been the megatons in my own opinion, since the beginning:

May 22nd - The Thirty-Freaking-Six Musicians
June 8th - All four control types being usable
July 2nd - Assist trophies
August 3rd - Subspace Emissary
September 7th - My Music, AKA the reason they needed The Thirty-Freaking-Six Musicians
September 18th - Wi-fi play
October 5th - Co-op Subspace Emissary

Maybe we'll get another megaton this month, to keep up the September pace? As opposed to the once-a-month pace that was going on before then.
You can't forget about special brawl, though. And I think brand-new characters are megatons, too. And piplup.

It's too soon for this but... I'm guessing the next character update will be about Sheik.

No unlockable character from SSB or SSBM has been mentioned yet (even the ones in SSB who became default in SSBM), so I'm guessing they'll continue Veteran character updates with old default characters, and Sheik is the only one left.

Captain Falcon?

Hmm... map...

Looks like to me where you circle "???" is more likely to be fire emblem based on the back ground and surrounding map colors.
femblem.jpg

But what you circled as the fire emblem area looks more like a coliseum/arena to me.

And at the lake it seems like maybe there is a water fall covered up by a cloud/fog.

But the FE castle is on a level plain near a forest with mountains in the background, not on a mountain.

I'm starting to think that this is all a ruse by Nintendo and the game isn't real.

How can you pack so much awesomeness into one game???

I would love for Sakurai to just update with a new Camera mode section and just say the team saw Halo 3's awesome theater mode and incorporated it into their game.

Was he unlockable in Melee?
nope,he and ness were secret character in the original but were default character in melee
anyway the update looks nice but where is the wi-fi coop for people that have problem finding a sibling or a close friend?

Man, that would have been so awesome if I owned a N64 when Smash Bros came out, I bought it and finally unlocked Ness and didn't know he was in the game beforehand. I would be like, "ITS FUCKING NESS FROM EARTHBOUND. HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!"

Available on the PS3 and possible thanks to Blu-Ray for all advanced content holding.

: p

Really, this and SMG give me the urge for a nice HD TV, because this would look -awesome- on a flat screen TV. Hell, I think this looks as nice as the games on the HD consoles.

Disclaimer:
This is, of course, my opinion. I am aware that, in terms of technical prowess, these games are far behind games on the HD consoles. However, looking at video and screens from these games gives me the impressions that, graphically, these are games of note, even compared to games like MSG4 and FF13 on the HD consoles. Obviously, I might very well be wrong. But this is my opinion.

End disclaimer.

Nah, this is the Adventure Mode Skyworld area...

I don't remember what else I wanted this game to have. I think everything revealed paints the perfect Smash Bros. game.

Release it now!! What if I'm hit by a bus before December?!!

Holy freaking CRAP. I've been hoping for co-op since we first heard of the Subspace Emissary, but I never expected Sakurai to actually DO it.

Well played, sir. Well played.

...Wow, the Subspace Emissary is quickly becoming my favourite part of the game.

And the excitement I feel in the mornings seeing these updates is more stimulating than caffeine could ever be.

Yeah. the only thing I can think of right now that I really want is smash bros is a replay mode, a la Halo 3. Me and my bro and cousin would record our games just so we could rewatch all the great things and close calls that unfold during a game.

seems there's a completion level to each stage, too. In this screen Skyworld was 83% cleared, so the stages might be pretty big, have hidden areas, etc.

Co-op Mode :D Wow this has been a great week for updates! We have come so far since this began in May. Every week the game gets better and better.

I still remember my reaction "wtf is this? :|" but i've learnt a lot since then i suppose.

I was just seized by the notion that this game is going to suck my soul from my body and transport it to realms of candied awesomeness and crystalized whoa, where beautiful giants smile the light of dawn and cry the essance of dreams.

I don't know that it's necessarily a per-stage completion - it could easily be a total mode completion & Skyworld is just listed as the current location.

Huh... there are two stages listed there, not only one, but both are in the clouds- there's no way that is 80% of the game.

My mind is blown from all the awesome. I love the look of that map.

I <3 co-op. Best feature in gaming, full stop.

updated Wishlist:
better singleplayer
lots of newcomers
Ganondorf and The Knee reconfirmed
Co-op
alternate costumes
online brawling

also:
There’s a method for powering yourself up as needed to do battle with the Subspace Army—a method that has not been seen before.

I’ll explain this in great detail another time.

RPG elements! Purchase and allot skill points to maximize your character!

Sort of want.

Holy Shit Yes!

Also, though I don't think I ever fully detailed it in a post this is almost exactly how I envisioned the Single Player mode.

I knew I was going to love this game since before it was even announced but every update he reveals forces me to love it even more. I seriously am dying here, not being able to play this now.

I like the difficulty selection menu. It reminds me of the Homeland Security threat level chart.

LOVE IT.

Alt costumes and more 3rd party characters and holy crap, Im done.

EDIT: Also, him referring to "close friends" pretty much confirms you can do co-op online with your friendlist.

The real question is, what will people bitch about now?

People already bitched about wanting a level editor some weeks back. Never underestimate the power of bitch.

Man, a Level editor would be icing on the cake.

Even a simple one that lets you choose the backdrop, and simply place platforms (with options of destructibility and rotation) would be sweet. If Sakurai had a deep level editor.... I just don't know what I'd do.

Oops double post, whatever.
