Character poll? What character poll? The only time I remember hearing about Sakurai taking input from fans was when it was reported that he was reading what the Japanese official smash bros boards were saying.

Dedede has a different style of fighting than the Ice Climbers. And while he might have similar A moves, his B moves are much more similar to Kirby's than the Ice Climbers'.

I continue to deny the idea that Luigi will ever be a starter, and we've already got two Pokémon characters, so no need for Jigglypuff.

Although I AM expecting one Melee unlockable to be unlocked this time around.

I wouldn't feel too silly expecting Falco, Young Link, Ganondorf, and Mr. Game & Watch, so I'd expect maybe... Falco and Ganondorf unlocked.

Mia is not happening, abandon all hope ye who desire really insignificant and minor FE characters. Lyn, the alpha of the series (outside Japan) and the only worthy female Lord got regulated to an assist trophy. It wouldn't surprise me now if Sakurai left us with just Marth and Ike, though I do hold out hope for Micaiah (better than nothing).

I told you guys, the poll was the key! If you look at the character poll from before Melee came out, a lot of the characters on that came true as well. (Either in Melee (Bowser, Peach, Marth), or eventually in Brawl (Wario, MetaKnight)

Of course I've been totally off about who was going to be a starter and who was going to be unlockable... freakin' everyone is getting put on as a starter. Which just means more more more characters in the end!

It looks like we are going to have quite a bit more than I was predicting... which I am very happy about!

That precedent has been shattered. Sakurai explicitly said for Brawl that third party characters would be unlockable, and yet we got Snake and Sonic's profiles.

Hmmm, Dedede could be extremely overpowered. Sakurai says he's a heavy like Bowser, but his powers include floating like Kirby. So he could be a heavy hitting character that is hard to smash and has great recovery...

Bowser always replaced Geno in my party as soon as I got him. Unless I wanted to Geno Whirl my way through some annoying random enemies.

By the end, I always had the traditional Mario, Toadstool, and Bowser team. The combination of an almost brokenly good healer, a powerful physical attacker, and an all-round character was very appealing. Besides, Mallow's magic was never that good anyway.

-This is the 23rd character update. Wow. We now know 12 veterans and 11 newcomers--things are getting interesting!

-The Kirby series has has 8 updates, if counting Meta Knight's special moves (which were "modeled" for the explanation of how special moves work). That puts it ahead of everything other than Mario or Pokemon.

-Our five least recent update types are now normal item, music, character movie, special moves, and notice. I might just knock character movies and notices out of the running (and I already knocked bosses out a long time ago) since both are extremely rare, but we'll see.

-It continues: no update day with a character profile has ever had a double update or more unless at least one of those other updates was directly related to the character. (Pokemon switching mechanic, MGS4 music and Snake's moves, Sonic movie and a conference movie.)

From the way I see it, Metaknight, his stage, his freaking ship, everything, is the greatest addition from the Kirby universe he could possibly make. Its like, the moment when Metaknight was revealed, I was instantly satisfied with that serving of Kirbyness, and was ready for the next universe to devour (which, in the case of the first trailer, was Kid Icarus's Pit).

But with Dedede? I feel stuffed and uncomfortable.

I don't think we'll be seeing any more bosses on the site any more. Maybe one or two more, but I doubt it. Seeing the bosses ahead of time would ruin a lot of surprises in the Subspace Emissary, I'm sure.

just about everyone was expecting both Diddy and Dedede. They placed high on the polls, they're unique characters, and they're important to their respective franchises. Heck, Diddy has been in most recent Mario sports/kart games, too. Dedede has the benefit of filling a villian role, and Diddy was needed to buff up the slim DK showing. I think the only real surprise here is that both of them may be starters.

People wanted Dedede since Melee, and from what I remember there were rumors they started him then
