Eh, I like Spectator more. >_> Either way, though, it's too subjective for me to toss into the statistics, though I did just edit in a slight snipe at the end.
Only four days left for November to prove it has something up its sleeve.

I'm expecting that if we don't get big updates in the next three days, the fourth will be huge.

I'm trying to figure out whether I'll shift the classic controller buttons over to Y for special attacks, B for normal attacks, and A for jumping. Might sound unorthodox, but that's technically the way the buttons are lined up horizontally on the GC controller and right now I'm having difficulty imagining pressing a jump button in Smash Bros. with the inside of my thumb.

Ugh - I hope this doesn't mean that jumping with the control stick will be gimped.

If you jump with the stick, you go a little higher than if you use the jump buttons.

It's one of those little touches that kick so much ass.
But how would you know? What if everyone's jumping got a little bit better, but all jumping was the same?

Or do you just want a better jump for people willing to sacrifice easier up-tilts?

All jumps should be equalized, and I have a feeling that they will be in Brawl since you can now turn off stick jumping.

they can just make button jumping the same height as stick jumping, problem solved.

I like the differentiation between button jumps and stick jumps.
I never had any problem doing upward attacks without jumping.

Edit - I guess people here don't get it.
Stick jumping is a little harder to do (for most people), but you get a better jump out of it.
I LIKE that. I don't want all the button jumpers to get a handout.

I think I'll have two control schemes. Wiimote + Nunchuck with motion smashing (with over exaggerated motions just for kicks) for playing with my friends, GC controller for serious 1 on 1s.

SOLD!!!

The picture doesn't indicate that there's any way to use switch the D-pad and analog stick for movement. I would love to be able to use the classic D-pad in a 2D fighter, it was one of my biggest complaints about brawl.

Upward attacks, or Up tilts, 'cause I can Up smash just fine.

I see what your saying though about differentiating the jumps.

wow, I can understand all the wavedashing complaints, but this is just beyond that.

I suppose you can do street fighter control mapping, but then it wouldn't be smash =/

Wow, is this true? I've been around the Melee scene a long time and I've never heard this. Either way, stick jumping is way too shitty and restricting to bother with.

You know we're talking about up-TILTS, right? I've found that there are actually a lot of casual Melee players that don't know up-tilts even exist because you have to be precise with the control stick.

It kind of ties in with one of the biggest megatons yet (four kinds of control). The biggest updates yet (in order) are:

-Wi-Fi Play
-Four Kinds of control
-Stage Builder
-Sonic
-The musician list
-The Subspace Emissary
-Spectator
-Target Smash (if only because it dropped the replay save bomb)
Stage Builder is a much bigger megaton than Four Kinds of Control IMO.

I'd pretty much say the gamecube controlller controls are perfect for me. I'll just turn off the tap jump...kind of useless for me since when you try to dash dance your character falls down

Does this still apply to Brawl or is this just a Melee distinction for now?

Yeah, I've never noticed and never heard of something like that.

Hm? You can still dash dance in Brawl. You only fall down if you run too far in one direction THEN try to turn around. Instead of just turning slowly because of your momentum like you did in Melee, you now fall down.

-November 26th kicks off the 28th week of updates, 135th day of updates, and the 163rd update overall.

-Game modes advance to 17 updates and tie with final smashes, stages, and how to play for second-most-common update type.

-Each of the past three weeks (this one included) has provided at least one game mode update. Seven of the past eight have had at least one game mode update.

-22 days without a character, 28 days without a Poke Ball. Place your optimism or pessimism on the line as you will.

Not much else to say, really.

Edit: Wait, no, I've got one more.
If November passes by without a megaton, it'll be the first month to do so. Even May, with only eight days of updates, dropped the composer list bombshell on us.

How about there's at most 43 update days left to the Japanese release date? (This is including the actual day of release.)

Less than nine weeks.

Also, if you turn Tap Jump off, you can cut the jump function out of the up direction on the Control Stick. This means it’s easier to do an up attack without jumping into the air. Use whichever way you prefer.

YES. The only major flaw (and its not even that bad) of the smash bros. games is fixed.

The Shake Smash isn't exactly what I wanted out of motion control functionality* but its a good bonus. It will be interesting to see if new players will like the more tactile feel of swinging in the same direction as their character.

*Full directional wiimote attacks. Normal/Strong/Smash in all directions.

Great update.

On a side note, I dislike avatars that change everytime I refresh. I relate the person with the avatar but this just makes it more difficult.

THE BAN IS STILL IN EFFECT. IT WILL ALWAYS BE IN EFFECT, NEVER ASSUME THAT IT'S NOT IN EFFECT, BECAUSE IT ALWAYS IS.

I want to say one negative thing about the game before its out: When the graphics are top tier in the Wii-department why the overall presentation (mainly menus and such) look like a combination of Windows 3.11 and Mac OS? Sure, usability over looks but they could have used more time on those.

by mac os you don't mean os x do you

am i reading something wrong? or is analog joystick control not possible with the wiimote+nunchuck. that pic looks like dpad only, which doesnt make sense to me.

edit: nevermind, i just figured out that the dpad is used for button layout not movement.

You move with the joystick. Up on the d-pad jumps, left and right grab, and down uses shield.

I don't mind what we've seen of the UI so far.

There's so many options and modes and whatever to present to the player, I think it's important to have a clean, simple design

And besides, we know it's going to have awesome music behind the menus which will make everything ok :)

I'm surprised they let you use the D-Pad on the Wiimote, when honestly it shouldn't be an option. I can't imagine using a move like Fox Fire effectively with the D-pad.

EDGE had a preview of this and they were quite imrpessed with the content of this game and they wouldn't be surprised if the kitchen sink was an item in the game. :P

Yeah, this game has so many options and content, its getting harder and harder to think of good stuff for it bar the third party characters :D
