Smash Bros Brawl Dojo Official Update Thread: Goodbye, Cherry-don

Seems like Olimar will be much easier to use for people that have played Pikmin and know their properties well. Looks fun to use, albeit with a pretty big learning curve.

A very unique fighting style, to say the least. Could cause major frustration for a novice, or could cause major frustration for the opponent in the hands of a skilled player.

I dub the tanned Olimar, "Ali-Mar."

The Pikmin having elemental properties takes me one step closer to my dream of a special Pokemon Mode with attacks that do double damage/half damage/etc.

There seems to be no differentiation between leaf, bud, and flower Pikmin. I guess things are complicated enough without throwing those strength differences into the mix, too, though. :D

GOOD GOD OLIMAR IS GOING TO BE SO AWESOME BEST MOVESET EVER !!!

It's almost exactly what I've been wanting/predicting! 6 pikmin at once is pretty damn good... I could have went for ever more :lol but 6 will do!

Sneaky... is it not on the main page yet?

ALSO, standard special is pikmin pluck... Kirby can steal this?

That is going to be INCREDIBLE. One of the first things I thought of. :lol Only... how will Kirby be able to attack with the Pikmin if he can't throw them? I guess the Pikmin will attack automatically if an enemy player is in proximity?

Hmmm I was wondering about this.

It's like an entire moveset based around Peach's vegetables, only the veggies latch on to people and chew their faces off.

The team must have had a lot of fun designing this one.

There could be. They may be more powerful and we don't know how much damage a Pikmin can take before dieing. Plus there is the Final Smash

also, is that A Pikmin stage with Olimar and the Pikmin "rope"?
It's Rumble Falls.

So Jiggy, how do all these Pikmin work out for your character-in-screenshot counts? Are you counting them separately like you've been with Red and his Pokémon? If so, it'll be funny to see in the final numbers which color Pikmin tops the whole list. :lol

My guess is, like Olimar, they will augment the same attacks that Olimar would gain a benefit from. But since Kirby isn't as weak as Olimar is on his own.

Kirby + Pikmin army = Unstoppable!

Nintendo needs to have a league type system built into this game... I better beat my backlog by feb 10(hoping for no delay) because nothing will get played once this comes out.

Speaking of elemental properties, does anyone else think that certain types of attacks will be needed to unlock different paths in Subspace Emissary? You know, like in the original Kirby's Adventure, where you needed to use fire to light the fuse to set off the cannon to blast Kirby onward to a secret area.

At the very least, it's a good excuse not to rescue Peach from Petey Piranha.

I suspect that Kirby would only have bare-bone advantages. Ie, utilizing them to attack. He couldn't collect them, recover with them, or throw with them.

True, rereading the entry, certain Pikmin are immune to certain attacks, so it may be that there only benefit is providing a shield for Kirby.

I am so in love with the way they have implemented all of this.

Smash bros = TEH INNOVATION! So many unique gameplay styles and variety in the roster!

Amazing. Sounds so cool. Though, I am a bit concerned that Olimar can play a bit campy...a simple strategy would be throwing pikmin for damage and running away. Also, does Olimar start with no Pikmin? If so he will be at a huge disadvantage, I can see people preventing him from plucking Pikmin. It all depends on how fast he can pluck; hopefully it'll be really quick. His small character size might mean he is easy to KO too. I wonder if Pikmin will attack automatically like in the games? It doesn't look like it in the 4 Olimars picture though. But that would solve the Kirby puzzle. So many questions! Wow, I really just want to play him. Such an inventive character.

I have a feeling that the Pikmin may augment the reach of Kirby's A attacks and carry the same elemental properies, but not effect his B moveset at all.

I hope so. I think it was Canadian who mentioned earlier in this thread that he hoped Sakurai would include some "Great Cave Offensive" style puzzles into the game. I'm hoping/betting that this will be how some of the more hidden characters will be unlocked.

-With the power of an enormous moves update, Pikmin & Olimar hit 16 Dojo screenshots just two days after their introduction, surpassing Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard. (As individuals.) I'm counting a single shot of a Pikmin for these purposes since, well, the character is named Pikmin & Olimar. :P

-Special moves, well, move[/u] to 17 updates. They also shuffle off of the least recent update types, where they should have been for the past two days--but I had forgotten to put them on there in the first place, so just refer to yesterday's post or something. >_>

-Pikmin as a series hits 3 updates. Nothing significant, really.

-The characters without special moves updates are once again our old standbys of Pikachu, Samus, Zelda, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Peach, and Ice Climbers. Note that all of these are veterans and most of them are reported to have not really changed much from Melee. Zelda's the main one everybody's still interested in, of course, though we do know Bowser's forward B is very different from before.

-8* days of updates remain until the Japanese release date. Believe it. :O
*Yes, when I think about it, MrCheez was right: Brawl should hit Japanese stores before the 9th update would have hit the Dojo. So we would have been at 9 today by the old count, but now we're at 8. Yay time jumps!

No pictures tonight, partly because I'm kind of drained but mostly because I'm one of the holdouts expecting something amazing for update #200. That will be a night of revelry. :D

Looks like Olimar doesn't have an actual third jump. On the other hand, that's one heck of a recovery distance for a single move.

So, who else is looking forward to grabbing someone from halfway across the stage with a chain of Pikmin? Never mind the thought of Olimar grabbing the nearest one and beating his foes over the head with it. And the explosion of color and light that is his down+B.

Olimar, I will learn you.
