More "leaks" from thealmightygoat...take them as you will -_- (sorry if these have already been posted).

I can't wait for the Dojo to announce something contradicting with anything this guy says so he's finally disproved. He's got a good imagination tho. I don't really see a leaker slowly leaking stuff, making it seem like a game.

I'm starting to fear. All of these diverse gameplay styles are awesome, but I'm starting to worry that the incredible balance that is promised by this game will be sacrificed.

Early impressions have said that this game is very tightly balanced, but no one's played any of the more unusual characters yet.

Some characters will be geared towards new players, some to advanced players, and some to people who like weird playing styles or characters, like Game and Watch or Jigglypuff(or in this case, Olimar).... I guess..

But I think it will still be balanced.

I'm also a bit worried.
King Dedede represents a flying heavyweight, which will be "interesting," seeing as getting rid of heavyweights or flying characters individually has already been fairly difficult in the past.
I know most people think that for Pokemon Trainer Squirtle will be fast and weak, Ivysaur will be average, and Charizard will be strong and slow, but I'm thinking there's a possibility that they might have purposely made Squirtle underpowered and Charizard overpowered, assuming that the forced switching mechanic would moderate these advantages and disadvantages.
As for Olimar, what balance did they have in mind for him? Did they assume he'd have an average of, say, three Pikmin out at all times? If so, this could mean he'd be underpowered when he couldn't get three Pikmin and overpowered when he could get six.
And then there's the question of whether anybody will find any exploitable mechanics for any characters, Melee Ice Climbers-style. Maybe they'll even figure out how to exploit the IC themselves again.

Right now I'm trusting that since the developers all played thousands of matches of Melee, they've been able to work out the balance while playtesting Brawl, but I do have my fears. (Of course, if Jigglypuff ends up totally broken and awesome, I won't be complaining.)

I think that deep down, everyone wants their favourite character to be the best. I, personally, wouldn't mind if Ness and/or Lucas became the unstoppable juggernaut that Ness was in the first Smash Bros.

Imagine if Rollout could be stored for later use.
No, wait. Imagine if Sing had twice the range and connected three times quicker. :O :O :O Rest death time, baby!

I prefer the near infinite air combos from SSB instead...

I think, in the end, things will be just fine. With Sakurai and his dudes having a lot of time to put as much work, effort and content towards this game as much as possible, I'm convinced that the overall package deal will probably end up being a thing that works well.

But in the end, like always, the competitive scene will always have a large uphill battle to try and create a "balanced and universal" list of rulings that will work for the game, and will just be the standard that will be used for that mode of play. It's just my hope that, now that people have had 6 years to come together for Melee and try and craft universal standards, we'll never have to deal with some of the utter crap that happened years ago, with such things like "East Coast vs. West Coast" format rules again. Good grief, that was some of the stupidest crap I've seen since back in the days of Street Fighter 2's menagerie of idiocy... :lol

Oh, my god. I have a friend who, whenever we play with novices, will play Jigglypuff, just so he can rest incessantly and not get punished for it, all while yelling "Jiga-BOOOO" in a high pitched voice.

*shudder*

The interesting thing about his "leaks" is that so far, he hasn't mentioned anything that would seem to out of place in Brawl. Now, while that does show some amount of creative restraint on his part (assuming he's making it all up), it's also a testament to what's we know about in Brawl so far. After all the stuff we've seen revealed so far, it's only the most completely unrealistic things that I'm finding that I don't at least believe could be possible.

While adding stuff like online play and a level editor is awesome, things like that are all things we somewhat expected as possibilities. For me, it's things like the coin shooting minigame and the My Music option that really make it seem like anything is possible.

Actually I would be disappointed if whatever character I choose to main ends up being 'overpowered' or the best. Then that means everyone will play my character >:(

I've always been one of those people who tends to be uninterested in whatever character (or class, in MMOs) is the most popular/overpowered

See, that was the beauty of Ness in the original. If you knew how to use him, he was easily the best character, rivalled by only Kirby. But if you didn't take the time to master him, like my friends who tried to use him, you'd just flail about and get destroyed.

I prefer balance. The more skill involved the better. The balance in Melee was awful. A good Fox, Peach, or Marth player will almost always beat an equally skilled Link, Ness, or Donkey Kong player. I really do hope they've cut down on the tier differences this time.

The most awesome fighting game characters usually are the ones who seem to suck at first glance due to nonstandard mechanics that a new player won't adjust to immediately.
On the other hand, there are always the ones who actually do suck with their nonstandard mechanics (not implying causation). Hi Yoshi and Mewtwo. :(

This is why I usually go for the more obscure characters with stranger playing styles in most games I play. It's why my main characters in Melee are Ness, Ice Climbers, and DK, in that order.

I can't believe this game is so close to release. I'm actually kind of glad it was delayed, its nice to have a game this big to look forward to so soon after the holidays. I'm really looking forward to getting the game and finding out what hasn't been revealed yet on the dojo site.

Characters like Ganondorf, Luigi, and Captain Falcon are obvious but I wonder what else has been thrown into the mix.

Too bad for me Link is and always will be a goddamn pussy. =(

But I think there is. Look at the pic:

The ones closest to him (been around longest) have flowers. The new one at the back does not.

Perhaps the pikmin have life cycles, and they do get stronger if they last longer
pikmin_080111l-l.jpg

It was this screenshot that made me doubt it in the first place (because all of the Purple Pikmin have buds, etc.), but I looked closer and noticed there is one Yellow with a leaf and others with buds, so now I'm leaning more toward your theory. It gives Olimar a solid incentive to keep his Pikmin alive instead of just throwing them to their deaths and picking more. Good thinking.

If you haven't already check out Soul Calibur II, Link is so overpowered in that game it borders on ridiculous.
That's funny. I hear some people say he's ridiculously overpowered in SC2, and other people say he's ridiculously underpowered. I don't know who to believe! I was pretty good with him, but that's probably just because all of my friends sucked at the game.

I already have, and all I remember is spamming the edge and making Link do some flip over my opponents arm and throwing him off the stage. :lol

Any decent player can avoid it or counter grab. It's far from perfect, only newbies fall for it.

I think Captain Oilmar and some of the other different characters will be like Game and Watch where if it might be hard to just pick up but you can eventually master as him if you keep practicing. Game and Watch is my top tier character in Melee.

I think It's a necessary evil that link is doomed to mediocrity, though.
Consider all the people who play him in spite of the fact that he's not that great.. if he was good, christ, i shudder to think of the amount of links there would be out there.

Sheik was my favorite character in Melee. While I hope she really is in Brawl I won't get excited until a more reputable source confirms it.

However the fact that Zelda's special moves have yet to be unveiled on the Dojo means there is something Sakurai wants to keep secret. Whether that happens to be a Sheik transformation or not is still up in the air as far as I'm concerned.

He can definitely hold his own in lower level matches.

Not exactly.

All the scan tells us, without a shadow of a doubt, is that Zelda's Final involves light arrow pwnage. Unless you have better eyes than I, there's nothing on that low quality scan of her card that tells any thing about Zelda's movelist, especially not about the "Twilight Transformation" or Sheik.

So, the wait is on for some one to provide better scans. But until then, there's nothing that confirms Sheik 100% (yet).

While I'm thinking about it, here are the GAF Smash tournaments I want to see at some point in the future:

-No items, any stage, best 2 of 3 elimination
-No items, select stages only, single-match round robin
-Choose your opponent's character, select items on low (but not very low), any stage, best 2 of 3 elimination
-Teams, no items, select stages only, round robin
-Teams tournament, same as above, but with teams created based on the results of the "choose your opponent's character" tournament (i.e. champions and runners-up are teamed with losers, the average are teamed with the average, etc.)
-Select items, any stage, best 2 of 3 elimination, anti-items crowd vs. pro-items crowd

I want a lot of tournaments. :(
And I'll lose them all! Ahahahaha.

you're not playing super smash brothers correctly if you turn items off. pussies.

This mentality is exactly why putting the pro-items people against the anti-items people in an items setting would be epic and awesome.

I throw items off the stage in item matches.

Now that's just silly. There's a time and a place for playing with items, and a time and a place for turning them off. What I can't stand are these absolutist attitudes that there's only one way to play Smash.

the only time and place for turning off items is when you wanna play like a girl. real men use items

How about all items on normal and random stages?

I'm thinking about it, but there would be a lot of moaning afterward about losing "only" because the other person got a Starman or Heart Container or something. I can't decide whether or not that would be so annoying that it's not worth it.
