I think some of the "clones" should either recieve completely new movesets or else get replaced. For instance, Roy should be replaced by a different FE character (preferably Lyn) that plays differently from Marth. I don't think anyone would be really sad to see Pichu go in favor of a new Pokemon, and Gannondorf definitely deserves a new moveset. Also, ideally Young Link should use the Wind Waker model and have different specials than TP Link.

If you played SSBM seriously you would recognize that Marth and Roy are COMPLETELY different characters. While their moves may seem similar they way they are played is radically different, as is the case with all the clones.

Pichu is considered the worst character though, I wouldn't mind seeing him given a morph into someone like say Raichu.

I understand that they have fundimental differences in stats - note how I put "clones" in quotations. However to claim that they are completely different characters is rediculous - knowing the moveset of one means you know the moveset of the other, which makes playing them not as fresh or unique. I'd be dissapointed if they didn't take this opportunity to further set the characters apart from each other.

Their movesets are similar yes but the way they're played is unique. At the higher levels of play their styles are as unique as any other character, watch these videos and tell me differently.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=E2DrHWRvRQc&search=neo+roy (Roy v. Fox)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=tBWqB7X2f-U&search=ken+marth (Marth v. Fox)

I know this game inside out, I understand how their styles can seem similar but they aren't even close.

And therein lies the rub. All I'm saying is that the movesets should also be unique.

On a technical level they can be as different as you like, but if they seem similar, a little is lost from the experience especially if you're not on pro level and don't play it like a science.

I would prefer it if they remade the clones so that they have their own move sets/identity, but let them have also classic mode to please the tournament/hardcore SSB players. It's also a cheap way to make the game feel as though it has more characters.

Holy taking the fun out of Smash Bros Batman. When people get to that point with it it's just stupid. They aren't even playing the game to have fun, I can understand ina fighter how you'd want to do that but Smash Bros doesn't deserve that kind of play.

If they are going to put any AC character in it should be K.K. Slider. At least he has a guitar to attack with.

Nook can attack with a shovel, axe, net and fishing pole. Plus he could fly like Racoon Mario. KK Slider is never even seen in a standing or walking position. I say Tom Nook or bust!

Zen, understand that not everybody enjoys the same stuff as you. I like competitive smash WAY more than party smash. I got bored of party smash after only two months. I've been enjoying competitive smash for well over a year now. Anyway, how the hell is Luigi the same as Mario >_>;

Huh? It's an incredibly deep game that's also completely accessible to casual players, which is what makes it so great. You can play it as seriously or as casually as you like and still come away with an incredibly satisfying experience.

BURN HIM! Seriously though, what the Hell man? This kind of depth of play is what keeps smash interesting and still played by me and many others.

Who are your characters people?

Yoshi has always been my kid. If Sonic turns up im gonna have to ask myself some questions.

wtf is with meta-knight anyways? isnt he just some generic badbuy in the kirby games on the same level as a goomba? Where is my King De De De =(

I thought he was a secondary boss.

I knew I'd get burned for that.

Let me explain guys, please! Ok it's not that I have a problem with "competitive Smash"", in fact I love Smahs Bros the most when it's 1v1 to 1v1v1. 1v1v1v1 just gets borinmg for me, too chaotic, you can't focus enough. It's when it gets down the 1v1 that things get really good.

And I understand people can definately have different tastes from me but to me, the sort of Smash fighting in those two videos is sort of lame. I love picking up Smash brother s and fighting a friend and playing the game, what I see there are people who have taken it to such an extrmeme that it's not even really Smash Bros anymore, it's a complicated set of variables they have defined, 90 percent of the time they turn weapons off as well. I have a friend who only plays on the flat master hand stage and plays like that (and I actually end up beating him because he;s so stuck playing in thats tyle with other people that he can't reajust to a more conventional player), to me a person isn't actually playing the game when they approach it that way, they're trying to min max (to borrow a DnD term and use it poorly) and exploit the system like it's not Smash Bros. I like my intense semi logical progression fights, not the spaz jump hyper sheilding seen in those vids. Smash Brothers should retain some of it's qualities, even at the higher levels.

so how many characters do you think this game will have? I think it will be massive.

The game is 1-1.5 years away from release and there is a lot of talent working on this game. I could see 25-30 characters actually. Now when snake has joined, anyone can. I pray for a castlevania character.

I want to play as Joe from viewtiful joe.

I think he's a natural fit in this universe.

Though I'm really excited about Snake too, hahaha.

...

You need to play the Revenge of MetaKnight mode of Kirby Super Star :(

Meta-Knight is very cool, and a unique boss of Kirby in the fact that he is the same size, leading up to some fast paced battles. In Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland, if you get 100% completion you can play as Meta Knight.
He is not a goomba as he commands an army of several unique monsters and allies, and owns the ship the Halberd, which has only appeared in Kirby Super Star and now Smash Bros Brawl.

So Namco got Link for Soul Calibur, I think its almost a safe bet to think Smash is going to have AT LEAST Pac Man.

Hell, Pac Man was in Mario Part GP.
Would be cool if Smash got a SC character though.

I can't see Pacman being fun to control, the only thing that I can see is every character turning blue with bright white eyes when Paccers gets the SSB logo.
An enlarged Prince of Cosmos tho, very cool. When he gets the SSB logo, he gets a Katamari out and you can roll up the other fighters.

Has there been a discussion on possible courses yet? :D

It would be fucking awesome if every course in the original and Melee made an appearance.

Meta-knight looks awesome to fight with. My main man was Fox, though it was Pikachu in SSB, but he sucked in Melee, im pretty sure Fox wont be my main fighter in SSB:B.

Do you think they will add Baby Mario & Luigi in this one. They might work as a tag team duo (similar to Ice Climbers) and have their moveset drawn from Partners in Time. I think it could work; although there are probably better characters out there.

Final Destination and Kirby 64 are all I need.

I wouldn't mind if the clones became costume swaps with their respective stat tweaks and variations... maybe.

I am concerned about balance when adding soooo many charachters, but a "tag mode" allowing me to set a stock match with a series of different fighters for each life would be truly welcome.

If they choose some old stages again, I hope they pick good ones. Saffron City and Hyrule castle should've been in SSBM instead of kirby's and DK's old levels.

Saffron City was a good level, and so was Hyrule Castle. :D

Falco! Also a big fan of Dr. Mario and occasionally Princess Peach.

I'd like to see some more new 1st party characters as well, such as Captain Olimar/Pikmin, Little Mac and the 4x4 from Stunt Race FX. As for 3rd party lets get Mega Man, Arthur, Simon Belmont, Sonic, and some other classics in there.

I'd just like to chime in and say playing with items turned off is lame and defeats pretty much the whole purpose and uniqueness of SSBM.

Also: Jill and her Drill Dozer had better be in SSBB!

Me and my friends got to the point where we HAD to turn off Ness' baseball bat item. Seriously, so easy to charge it up and just let loose sending people flying. It's probably one of the more deadly weapons in the game, and if you got a hold of it, everyone pretty much knew the match was over.

But it's not that difficult to avoid. It's part of the fun, running away and trying to get the bat from them, before they can get you.

psh, you guys are babies. we always keep all the items unlocked. someone gets the star? oh well. someone gets the bat? oh well. someone gets the hammer? oh well. you deal with that shit ;)

:D I really hope there aren't too many options to turn items off in non-friends mode. they need to be kept in play... althogh the hammer would really suck in a 2vs2 environment.

do any competative players play as Nes? I've love to see some Nes ownage.
I can't think of anyone off the top of my head. Ness isn't all that great in melee. I use him as my main screw around character. Ganondorf is my main during serious play.

on a side note, my bro used to be killer with Ganon. I dunno how he did it, he's so slow, but his moves counter pretty much anythign if you know what's being thrown at you.
umm, theres a couple but they aint that good. I versed one once and beat him (:D) but for the majority no. Also the most overused and notoriously known for being the cheapest (because he is really) is Marth. i hate marth :)

Ness is the most underappreciated character IMO, his floaty-ness is deadly for dodging and luring in aggressive opponents. i really hope they keep him in, but I guess i shouldn't really worry, mother 3 just came out after all.

how about jiggly puff? hah, i'd hate seeing a master with the puff, even I was able to own all my friends with her, and i'm not even that great.

Samus and Mario for me. Everyone is always underestimating how good Mario is in the game when it comes to the people I play with.
