SMT4 New Demon Designs

I hope they tackle the enemies in the Mario games next. They've been the same forever.
Me too.

Apart from the first red demon; I think they all look great. The old ones were pretty iconic though these redesigns would probably be better received if they were just new demons instead.

What still gets to me is how much the initial reveal trailer had a Kaneko vibe(and they deliberately hid the faces of the characters), even the iconic image of two people looking over the lake from the JP site.

Who did that artwork?

Doi, presumably. The characters in it are definitely him, at least.

New Omoikane is kind of OK, but I'll miss the old one. I really disliked the old Raphael design; don't love the new one but eh, at least it's not "generic angel 387".

The others are so-so, it seems like they're substituting fresh ideas with baroque overdesigned stuff. Which is about par for the course for Kamen Rider/Sentai baddies, I guess. To be fair, I had never even heard of any of them save, obviously, for Asmodeus, so I wouldn't get any of the references/visual gags.

I always felt the SMT enemies needed to be more consistent. I mean look at this shit:
[Jack Frost]
Compared to this:
[Metatron]

What exactly is wrong with having characters with completely different roles, attitudes and mythologic origins look different? I think SMT would suck if every single enemy had a serious, "badass" design, honestly. The more varied, the better.

The great thing about MegaTen is the sense of familiarity I get every time I play a new game in the series (spin-off or whatever, it doesn't matter).

It's what makes you want to level up faster so that you can fuse Jack Frost as soon as possible, it's what makes you want to give him Agi and Null Fire, it's what makes you think "shit is getting real" when you see one of the Big 4 Angels before you can even read their names, it's what makes you feel like a confident veteran when you cast Zio on a Nekomata, it's what brings you back down to earth bruised and bloody when you realize they changed some of the weaknesses.

This won't happen with a complete redesign, and it would suck.
What would be great, though, is changing little bits to make the demons feel "fresh". For example I loved how badass they made Raja Naga in Raidou.

This is great:

The SMTIV examples are not.

Is the bottom one from Devil summoner 1 or 2? I'm assuming 1.

I think the new designs look fine (except for the red demon).

In all honesty, the red demon is the only thing I don't like about the game so far. Not everything has to be made by kaneko/meguro.

Edit: Which is funny, because if rumors are true this might actually be "made" by Kaneko. Or at least the scenarios.

A bit of a bump, but I recently started playing Devil Survivor: Overclocked (Having played the original only a little bit) and I really hate the art. It is very flat and cartoony (not in a good way). It just looks awful. Hopefully future titles don't look like this.

It seemed much different than the other SMT titles I've played. Which titles had the same art style?

Consider I mean the demons, not the characters. The character designer was a manga artist, not an Atlus mainstay. Usually Kaneko or Soejima(not so much Kaneko anymore) do character art. Expect a lot more freelancers if Kaneko's really gone.

The character's I knew about. The demon's are based on a lot of Kaneko's designs, but the way they were adapted for the game sucked. At least in my opinion. They look different.

They weren't redesigned, they're older designs.
