Snoop Dogg ditches "Bitches" and "Hoes" from his lyrics

edit 1- never mind I missed something
edit 2- Never mind I didn't actually miss anything important in the article. I should have just kept my original post. I guess I'll just say that I don't think block tower is making any sense...like at all

this post sums it up
That is exactly what he is doing. He doesn't regret his previous stuff but in the future will be a bit more sensitive based on what he now knows due to his experiences. Asking him to stick to calling women bitches and hoes after finding a new respect for women due to his family would be exactly what you don't want him to do.

He stands by his previous art and will also stand by his new art.

Can't believe the lineup on last weeks Graham Norton Show (BBC)

George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, The Rock and Snoop Dogg all on one show. Crazy shit.

And he was hilarious, watch it.

sounds like george lucas type of fuckery. cant retroactively change your art, well, you can but that doesnt say anything good about you. this is only applaud worthy news for the people who likely never cared for his music and just want less offensive lyrics.
Do you know how to read or are you still learning?
He isn't "retroactively changing his art". His old lyrics arestill there and not going away. He's talking about his lyrics from here on out. Is it that hard to understand?

I'm a huge rap fan, but I honestly never cared for lyrics, weirdly.

I've always been about the hook, the beats and the flow, most of the lyrical content is silly to me honestly.

There are some exceptions, though.

I'm kinda the same. Something like 80% of the time I tune the lyrics out. I follow DJs/producers a lot more than rappers tbh. Listen to instrumentals.

I don't think he actually read the article just the title of the thread

"I'm 30 years old now," the rapper went on to say, explaining why he was no longer going to toke. "Three kids. A wife. A mom. Brothers. Artists. Family. Friends. They all need me. They depend on me."

-2003, when Snoop quit smoking weed

by the way here's a picture of him smoking weed with his son

A lot of negativity toward Snoop in this thread.

Is it really that hard to consider he might have smoked some weed and calmed down?

Or better yet, maybe he was just writing tough lyrics to sound gangster?
I can think of another rapper that does this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RT9O-pUGsVM

It's really sad. God forbid a "rapper" does something that's different and uplifting without it being called a publicity stunt. Damn if you do...damn if you don't I guess :/.

Also, his lyrics aren't necessarily supposed to be taken literally or are direct thought processes of Snoop Dogg, it could just be him singing about the hood and his experiences and the culture.

It sounds like to me that he didnt have good female role models growing up though and learned to disrespect them because of that. As he grew, more and more women showed up and made him change his views. He expressly states that that is the reason why he chooses not to use those words, not because he's afraid of pissing off a feminist. He's not really "censoring" his art cause no one really gives a shit about the lyrics he sang 20 years ago.

But this won't stop him spelling out his name in every song he's on.

Ess-enn-double-oh-pee dee-oh-double-gee!

Wow fuck whoever wrote that article. A dude actually tries to change for the better and all they do is point out his offensive lyrics from the past. I applaud him for his change in writing style and outlook on women. It's refreshing to hear someone be so honest in the entertainment business regardless of what he's written in the past.

I can appreciate good singers, though. Just never cared for lyrics. Most vocalists muff them as well.

Yes, snoop. Your lyrical game needs to mature for someone your age. Leave the bangers & party anthems to those half your age.

Personally, I never really cared for Snoop outside of when Dre was holding his hand.

Dre holding his hand 0_o???

Really?? Dude was carrying Dre on his own album (The Chronic). Snoop at least wrote his own shit at the time.

Cool. I went to a Jay-Z/Beyoncé singalong not too long ago, and the contrast between the two was jarring. With the former, mainly in his old stuff, you had a lot of rampant misogyny, the same as Snoop. Then a Beyoncé song would come up, putting a powerful woman in immediate proximity to these sexist themes, and her songs were much softer or more often about empowerment. It was interesting.

Glad to see an artist directly from that "bitches, hoes, tricks" era comment on growing beyond it.

And uh...point out that he's trying to change for the better. What the hell are you talking about?

What the hell is he talking about? The article didn't celebrate his evolution whatsoever, but treated it as something comical that warranted skepticism, while emphasizing all the horrible lyrics he had written and his absence of regret.

All too typically shitty and indignant and BuzzFeedish. HuffPo sucks.

I think most people thinking people dislike his lyrics because they're offensive are missing the point. The problem with the lyrics is that they encourage violence to women, which is pretty horrible imo.

what do you want them to do? Give him a parade? Call him a hero? He didn't exactly say anything that was extremely admirable either

If he's genuine about that statement, good for him. I've enjoyed seeing his evolution as a person and artist over the past eighteen some odd years.

Sure, give him a parade. Or continue flashing this brand of empathy/sensitivity that is casually hostile to differences, flaws, and generally to the shortcomings and complications of the human condition. Don't really care what HuffPo does, a bad article is little more than that, but this article is definitely that.

Not only is he not changing his past art, he's not even apologizing for those lyrics. Do you want him to write rhymes that he doesn't even believe in, or create new art?
