So about Bayonetta vs DMC 5

DMC V is fucking incredible everyone knows that. But a lot of people say Bayonetta will need to do a lot to surpass DMC V combat and my question to those people is what are you smoking? After the trailer of Bayonetta 3 I had the urge to play Bayonetta 2 again and I said let me play it on PC because Cemu right now is godly. Ok so I'm playing it with dual guns, (the basic weapons) thinking "WTF I forgot how amazing this fucking combat is" So how is possible that a game from 2014 still has the best combat in any action game ever? That means that not even Platinum Games can top their own masterpiece. Please be my guess and prove me wrong.

(Warning: I suck)

DMC V is fucking incredible everyone knows that.

who knows that? DMC5 is decent at best. it's certainly better than DmC and of course DMC2, but so much worse than DMC3 for example.

the life/revive system alone kinda ruined the game for me... a freaking login, live service like system where the game gives you extra lifes for logging in or preordering and shit? fuck that...

the combat was good but the Leveldesign and some of the systems in place were just really off-putting to say the least.

Bayonetta 1 and 2 are multiple levels above DMC5 in almost every way.
to me Bayonetta 1 is basically DMC5, it feels like the logical evolution of DMC.

DMC's main innovation was having melee combat mixed with guns to juggle enemies.
Bayonetta took that concept and turned it to 11. now your melee combos can be modified by holding the button down and firing guns from all 4 of your limbs... stomp on an enemy with your high heels and shoot him in the face with the guns attached to them.

the Leveldesign of Bayo 1 also feels like a continuation of DMC3 and 4, way more than DMC5 does imo.

DMCV stomps on Bayonetta. Where you at. First play the game and learn the moves. In Bayonetta, the camera is not even half as good as DMCV. On top of that DMCV is on another level on higher difficulties. There is so much programmed moves. You can deflect so many things in so many ways I can even begin to list. You can Royal Guard Virgils spear you can balrog air hike and use certain weapons to block it. The same goes for how you can kick Goliaths lava bomb. Bayonetta 1 & 2 have like 10 at best whereas DMCV as thousands of these countermoves. Devil May Cry is light years ahead. Bayonetta is more toned down and accessible so casuals may enjoy it. Its also leans on heavy button mashing for higher ranking unlike DMCV where you can get a higher ranking without weapon and limited press if you got the skill. And lets not go on DMD and how good that is. Virgil is basically the hardest boss there is unless you know how to use Royalguard. He shits on Fume Knight. Now you can argue between Fume Knight, Gael and Midir but that's it. No boss in Bayonetta comes even close in precise moveset of any of DMC bosses. DMCV is way watertight which is why it can have Hell on Hell mode with a level design like it has, because you can block dodge anything and everything if you have skill. You can completely dodge full blast of King Cerberus without scratch, which is easier said then done but that's how DMCV is. Bayonetta can go very RNG in combat at times. One of the main reasons Bayonetta is more accessible is because of heavy gun damage and you can argue that you enjoy it more but overall combat, Hell No.

topping dmcv is gonna be extremely hard.

four characters with so much complexity. You can make a game with just one of them and they have four.

Hard to top DMCV due to Vergil alone but both are really good and vastly different . DMC gameplay amps with abilities and DT while Bayo slows time down with WT . DMC peak at SSS combo juggle while Bayo peak at satisfying torture attacks and summons combo ender . It's up to preference really .

bayonetta 1> better group battles and crowd control
DMC 5 > better one vs one

bayo 2 doesn't come close to either sadly

DMCV art style is hideous. Plus that V character is terrible to use. DMC 3 Special edition is still the goat of the genre.

Can't wait for bayo 3.

simply unbeatable

Call me casual but even though I love these types of games, IMO combat isn't the only important thing.

I prefer Bayonetta 2 over both Bayo 1 and DMC5 because even though the combat isn't quite as good it's still fucking great, but it also has a lot of awesome locations, cool enemy designs, over the top bosses and setpieces, etc, I love that sort of stuff. Like in Bayonetta 2 there's this over the top level where you control a mech while demons destroy a city in the background, it doesn't play as well as regular bayonetta or Dante in DMCV....but it's a cool change of pace.

IN DMC5 you spend half the game in nearly identical hallways that look like this:

And if you are not there you are in some grey abandoned street or some brown sewers. Only the intro felt kinda nice in terms of location but that stuff soon gets abandoned.

DMCV in terms of weapons and gameplay variety between the characters will shit on Bayo 3. Looks and runs way better as well obviously. Story and level design is obviously weak in dmcv, but it has been the same with every Bayo game too.

DMCV Special Edition on Series X is a sight to behold, srsly if y'all own a PS5 or XSX, get it! The RE Engine is a tech powerhouse!

But with that being said, gameplay is everything and I think Bayonetta 3 will be even with DMCV.

Too early to say it'll be better, we've only seen 2 min of gameplay from Bayonetta 3. I really like what I see so far, looks like they're taking elements of Scalebound and adding it to Bayonetta 3

When it comes to depth DMC3/4/5 is unmatched. But I can totally see players who only do one and done playthroughs of games thinking Bayo is superior.

I've only played the original version of DMC5 but it wouldn't be that hard to top. There are 3 characters and you are forced to use all of them. V was boring to play, Nero's style is not for me but Dante was a 5/5. Unless the newer version lets you select only the character you want I'd never replay the game.

I gotta replay DMC V to refresh my memory but I recall it as being pretty dull, enjoyed 4 way more.

DMC1 > Bayo > DMC4 > Bayo 2 > DMC3 > DMC5

I expect Bayo 3 to be at least as good as DMC4 if PG listen to the criticisms of Bayo 2.

it's a cool change of pace.

Exactly. Most people who play these games -myself included- want a little variety to cleanse the palate. Exploration, secrets, puzzles, situational gimmicks, genre shifts, platforming and anything else they can add to spice up the experience is welcome to me because the idea of holding up to traverse another corridor to get to the next episode of Bloody Palace where the wallpaper changes (or doesn't) gets stale after a while. I don't want to be creative or express myself by juggling a prone enemy in the perfect combo video, that's not what videogames are to me. I want to react to and overcome specific tasks efficiently. I want diversions, variety, and surprises. DMC5 comes up really short in that department.

four characters with so much complexity. You can make a game with just one of them and they have four.

I dunno, man. I liked playing as V but I'm not sure I'd want a whole game of him.

I'm not the best at these types of games so this isn't coming from an expert on the mechanical depth of either, but DMC5 was kind of a flat experience for me. I thought V was rather dull and the back half of the game from a level design perspective was very one note. The Bayonetta games tend to be a roller coaster ride of spectacle.

Having finished Bayonetta on hardest, DMC3 and 4 on dante must die (only played V twice so far..i don't have the free time i used to), Ninja Gaiden 2 (the 360 one, not the pussy sigma) and 3 on master ninja, God Hand on die, i have a decent grasp on the genre's more challenging games.

Bayonetta and DMC3 +, while of course similar at the core, are a bit different when played at high level. Bayonetta is more a rythm game, while DMC is more a space management game.

Both series are the absolute masterpieces of the genre though. One is not "better" than other.

Edit: As some pointed out, V is not as fun to play as Dante and Nero, that's pretty much a fact. Having an option to skip his missions would be a God send.
Maybe i am getting older and it is harder to adapt to new things, but it's what drags down a bit, an otherwise amazing game.
