You didn't miss anything. Some people are just celebrating like their country just won a war or something. It's rather strange. Internets are serious businesses.
 
I wonder if he will continue too come here despite his public humiliation. It's amazing to me that someone who seems some mentally unbalanced could ever have been a mod in the first place.

His "I don't like 3D on 3DS despite the fact i never even tried it once. I won't even dare touch the slider in front of my face to justify it too, even if it takes 1 second to activate!" was always hilarious.

If memory serves I'm pretty sure he tried the 3D with Ridge Racer. There's been a lot of muck-flinging in this thread, and most of it hasn't stuck.
 
It would be awesome if he got his mod powers back sometime in the future, tracked down this thread and ban hammered anyone who dissed him.

It truly speaks to the insulated nature of Internet forums and even individual threads. Forum posters generally don't want a forum to be a place of diverse ideas and opinions, but want their fandoms and fetishes to be protected from ridicule or even an opinion "too aggressive." Those piling on the guy are people genuinely hurt that he slammed the Nintendo DS or Dragon Ball Z or whatever else. Some would even say he's mentally unbalanced for having strong negative opinions about a cheap video game system. I wonder how these people got through high school.

I get why it happens on very specific forums about very specific things, like a forum dedicated to only bulldogs or a forum dedicated to dressing up like Zebras and hooking up. But even forums that attempt to prevent it from happening can be vulnerable.

A lot of these comments about him being demoded seems incredibly spiteful and petty considering the context I'm looking at this from; several hundred (thousand?) people ganging up on a guy over him being mildly dickish when it came to online debates about videogames. Are you unable to use the ignore list on mods you don't like on GAF or something?
 
I think Ami was a pretty good mod, for what it's worth. That is, he upheld the forum rules competently on a consistent basis, despite coming off like a doucheknuckle I wouldn't want to know IRL. His weird "fact opinions" were mostly kept separate from his fulfillment of his mod duties, and I always appreciated that.

He did nothing for Other M though so he can burn as far as I'm concerned especially since he was never shy in shitting on crappy games either.

Then you should be well aware that the comments in this thread for the most part aren't petty and spiteful. Sure, there is some of that, but most of what he is getting he fully deserves.

"Don't knock it until you try it" is not necessarily the best advice. Those who have said, "Not interested in the Nintendo DS. I won't buy it." have implicitly knocked the system without even trying it.

It demonstrates to me that the advertising or hype did not work. Nintendo did not convince him and others that the 3D is viable. That he did not want to even try the 3D says something about his opinion of the system, Nintendo and the current state of the industry.

I won't see a 3D movie. It's a waste of money. I will knock it and I will never try it. I don't want to give them my money. I want to vote with my wallet. But if I pay for a 3D movie just to say I don't like it, then they get my money without really earning it.
 
I'm a bit surprised it's only recently occurred. I figured he would have learned to watch what he said so previous posts didn't haunt him.
I smell a conspiracy.

No, but I can't imagine getting stuck in a debate about a hobby and someone lying about something ultimately trivial like not calling people liars when OH GOOD GOD HE DID getting me upset to the point it seems to for some people here. I can't imagine being passionate enough about video games where a heated debate would bother people this much.

I mean, good on Kato on pointing out he was being a hypocrite and standing up for himself, but the huge song and dance from everyone else afterwards (which I've noticed Kato hasn't even taken part in) is extreme overkill.

I'd kinda agree: Ami the Mod>>>>>>>Ami the Poster. Even if I did somewhat agree with a lot of his posts. The way he framed those opinions usually derailed a thread.
 
Holy crap this thread's only like 6 hours old and already has this many posts? I guess it was a long time coming. He was like the Glen Beck of mods: Polarizing yet still entertaining to watch (his implosions).

All I'm saying is that, in my experience, he was a good moderator in the sense of his modding decisions. Finding good mods is not easy. This discussion about his approach to debates in threads is separate to that.

Indeed. He never seemed particularly concerned with making his extreme opinions seem credible. They just were what they were.
