He wouldn't even need a gallon. Half or even a quarter gallon daily combined with better eating habits would cause a decent amount of weight gain.

5'10" 190lbs

I think they classify me as obese on the BMI. Suuureeeeeee.

Nah, they have that as 27.3, almost right in the middle of the "overweight" range. I'm one inch taller than you, and the same weight, so I'm pretty much right there with you. I'm mostly muscle though, save for some pesky belly fat. ....stupid tacos.

Nope. Oops. I just swim for my school mainly.

Any good recipes for a protein shake?

Go check out the Fitness thread, I don't want to get blasted for my choice in products here.

Yeah im a hockey player/rock climber... Not much fat on me. And I probably have the exact same build as you.

Okay guys, needless to say, my school's lunch selection isn't very good...

I've been having a hamburger and a Powerade every day. Should I swap the powerade for milk and the burger for something with a higher calorie count?

BMI isn't so bad if you don't exercise.

Note that men generally should weigh more than women due to more muscle mass; if you're a guy hovering around 19 BMI you're probably very thin.

I think I am pretty thin...

19.5? You're not skinny dude, you're normal. Maybe in a country where the average BMI is very high, you SEEM skinny, but you're fine.

Also, being underweight is NOT a "good problem to have", I've been struggling with it for years.

16.5 BMI.

Powerade for whole milk and the hamburger for a gallon of soymilk

Brotein powder, don't drink GOMAD. Horrible horrible advise.

What's wrong with milk? Maybe the OP doesn't need to do the full GOMAD routine, but drinking lots of milk/eating lots of cottage cheese would be the best way to pack on the muscle while lifting heavy. I'd argue that milk/cottage cheese is more anabolic than whey protein alone with its mixture of casein/whey protein, lactose and testosterone boosting fat.

BMI is a terrible gauge of how overweight/underweight you are.

And I'd say 140lb and 5'11 is pretty skinny. Not at the too skinny range, but skinny nonetheless.

BMI is total bullshit. According to the BMI, im very close to being underweight, but in reality, I have sufficient fat. Not plenty, but enough to not be considered skinny if you look at my belly.
I have little muscle on my limbs, and that makes me very lightweight. However, that is by design and not due to inadequate nourishment.

At one point near the end of my construction days, my BMI was 32.7 Obese, lol.
But I was more Hulk than Blob.

bingo.

Eat more.

Much easier said than done.

My BMI is currently 17.2. It sucks on a personal level, but people usually comment that I don't seem that skinny. Maybe I have a naturally 'big' bone frame or something. I've always had broad shoulders and hips but my wrist looks like something from an African famine. People often assume i'm taller than I am (5ft 10) as well, probably because of my skinniness creating a greater illusion of height. I have a 6ft persons legs - tl;dr, it's fucked up.

That's what I've heard from some people.

I've gone onto many sites looking for advice and none of them are as good as my good friend GAF. But anyways, carrying on. I want to put on some muscle I guess... Or just not be too skinny (but not fat either).

I'm currently doing swimming for school right now, if it helps.

tl;dr, how do I get out of "too skinny"?

Also, sorry if this is the wrong place to put this thread ._.

In September I was underweight standing at 5'8" and 123lbs. Since then I put on 25lbs although my method isnt recommended.. I joined a gym in September and started a
protein called Mutant Mass and in a few weeks I jumped from 123 to about 133. After that, I heard of the GOMAD Diet which is a gallon of milk a day for a month and added Myofusion Protein to my diet and I went up to 145. Stopped the GOMAD for a while and am now at 147. Expensive road..

Look for Frank Yang 10,000 calorie a day bulking diet on youtube. Or use this.

You are probably not too skinny. Modern excess has changed the standard and most people are overweight.

Unless you have anorexia, it is very unlikely that you are really too skinny.

Nope. I swim.
You're not going to gain any significant weight from swimming. People like to point to "swimmers bodies", but all that lean muscle comes from weight training outside of the pool. Do you think sprinters just sprint all day to train their legs? Football players just practice football? Swimming is great cardio and there are some resistance benefits, but you'll stay skinny if all you do is swim.

stop fucking giving in to peer pressure about something that isn't wrong.

you swim, you are lean. good.

there are advantages to being light. i'm trying to get back to light. i'm 6-4 and 230lbs i want to get back to 190. just easier to move.

don't worry about it. you'll get bigger as you get older and you'll miss moving so easily.

It is just a matter of opinion. I would consider 190 @ 6'4 too skinny. Of course, body composition comes into play more than anything.

Don't listen to him. You want to get stronger. Bigger. You're tired of people calling you skinny. Eat big. Lift big.

I know :( I just need some good pointers and some motivation. And besides, I was answering his "do you even lift".

do you even lift?

Do people still think this is funny?

How old are you btw OP?

Let's just say... Of driving age in the US.

Check out the OP in the Fitness thread, particularly Starting Strength. It'll do you a world of good.

I'm in the same boat as you OP.
I'm 5'11 and 130 pounds.
Even most of the girls at school are bigger than me.
I'm too poor to eat all the time though.

Right, and you or your parents shouldn't have to spend any extra to get bigger, if that's what you want. You can utilize your high school's weight room (you should have already been doing this to aide in your swimming) and just change your eating habits a little.

ETA: And like Devo said, you've got nothing to worry about when your as young as you are. You're not even finished growing yet.

You're fine, OP. If you are interested in changing your body and you think there's room for improvement, your best bet is to find the best nutrition/diet plan suited towards the body type you're after but committing to it is the hardest part. The fitness thread is a good place to start.

Look pal, if you don't like memes, you're probably on the wrong message board.

What is this?

Looks... Unhealthy. But hey, what do I know? :P

yeah for real. If you're in highschool you are just fine. Hell even if you are in college you are fine. You'll have no problem picking up weight later on in life.

I just feel that everyone else is so much better than me... Everyone always talks about their PRs and stuff... and then there's me.

I <3 memes. Just not when they've been exhausted.

And about the weight room/gym... I feel that everyone would be secretly giggling under their breath about how bad my form is/how weak I am.

What's what? Frank Yang is a guy who bulks like crazy on youtube and the other thing is russian bear. A protein weight gainer that has 5,000 calories per serving.

5k per serving? How many scoops is the serving? Also, 5k just from a shake seems insane. What kind of shit is in this?

I wouldn't worry about that. If lifting is something and putting on weight is something that interests you, then do it. It is fun as well.

Everybody starts somewhere. I was benching 95 lbs and squatting 65. I'm much stronger. No one cares what you are doing as long as you are working hard.

Eh.

I just lack the motivation to get to the gym.... But now that I'm thinking about it I'm actually starting to get a bit more pumped, haha.

Precisely. I'm about to head to the gym right now. Seriously, just check out the Fitness thread's OP, and remember that everyone has to start somewhere, and it's better to be starting young and thin than older and fat.

Do you want to get better? If not, that's fine...it's totally your decision.

If you do want to get better, then you need to become more powerful. Lift hard, eat more calories and get sufficient protein from good protein sources.
