• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

So... are you getting Resident Evil 7?

If it's reputation is good and Steam VR ready then I get it, but not for more than 30 bucks!

From what I've seen of the game on youtube I'm actually not very excited about it, didn't look special to me at all... thinking about it, not more than 20 bucks! Hope there is way more to the game than what was shown.

I have it preordered despite not being all that excited for it. Needed another soonish game to preorder with TLG to get the visa checkout deal they had a couple months ago and totally forgot about horizon. Good chance I run through it and trade it in for the ~36 it cost me.

But it's got nothing to do with Outlast. Game has tons of combat (with multiple enemy types), with tons of weapons (multiple pistols, multiple shotguns, magnum, grenade launcher, flamethrower, etc). It's got character upgrades via money ala RE4. It's got boss fights. You don't even have to hide. You can shoot the Bakers down if you want to. Plus they only patrol certain sections of their house. They aren't always there.

The press has played 5 hours of the game. You say you'll wait for indepth reviews, and yet you skipped all the incredibly glowing previews the game has been getting? They told us all about how the game works and feels. I mean Gamespot said it's literally REmake except in first person.

Holy shit, dude. Calm down.

I said I'd wait for in-depth reviews. Who said I skipped the previews the press has released? Yes, I've heard Mike Mahardy say that the game is ReMake in 1st Person. Am I still not allowed to wait for reviews of the full game? Do you want me to go on Amazon and pre-order it now?

How good is the demo without VR? I have PSVR but kind of a wuss to try it out lol.
Anecdotally, my wife, a massive RE fan, watched the social screen when I was playing the demo in VR. She had to leave the room due to the tension, after a
rotten baby doll falls from the ceiling when you collect the bolt cutters.
. So, id say it works pretty well.

Yup!

Have to finish like 2 more games though before I hop in. Got it on PS4 even though all my RE games are on PC.

4K + HDR too good to pass up.

I hope the embargo for the reviews is early because that's kind of what I'm waiting on to determine if I shell out for VR, but it'll probably be the week of launch.

Yes. The only thing I'm sceptical about is the Baker family being a constant Nemesis-style threat. I'm not cut out for that kinda stress.

I only ever played 1 and 5. Would I be missing out on too much story etc or is it like a fresh start?

Don't wanna jump in and wonder what the hell is going on...

Edit: Oh wait, it's a VR game? I guess I'll pass then

Imagine that, the Resident Evil Remake that RE fans love so much had an unkillable enemy that chased you around too. But obviously that's not part of Resident Evil history.
And hey, Dead Space 1 had one as well, the game that many people consider to be the true sequel to RE4.

The better answer is the Nemesis from RE3. It follows you around the whole game and shooting it will only stun for a short period. The Bakers seem to play out closer to that style of gameplay.

Mr. X in RE2 isn't too far off either.

God damn that was a great game.

I'll take it for the PSVR experience, I love what I've played with the demo, I wouldn't have take it without VR support though.

I'm waiting on final impressions of the controls, aiming, and enemy bullet sponginess. The FOV of the demo (and the obscurity of the puzzle) did not inspire confidence.

Nah, the demo put me off for good. Simply didn't enjoy it at all, and the atmosphere just didn't click with me. The "scary" scripted scenes were laughable, and the demo just failed to grab my interest.

Single player game, probably not too long of a story (guessing 8-12 hours). Can beat it in a weekend and return it for $4. Multiplayer games or games with replay value (Heavy rain, Until Dawn, GTA, 2k, etc...) are games I buy.

RE7 has multiple endings or at least some form of branching so there is replay value.

i lost all interest in it as an FPS game. this feels like a reboot of silent hill not resident evil. i want a 3rd person game, for a reboot it totally missed the point for me

It's not a reboot just like RE4 wasn't reboot.

Not just that, but a writer for IGN Netherlands did a AMA on the RE Reddit and he said over and over, that the Bakers aren't always stalking you, and how they aren't everywhere in the house.

But it's like...no matter how many people who played the game say it...It still won't go through. It's still just like Outlast and Amnesia. The people with credentials who played the actual finished game are just wrong. They don't understand what they have played. It's Outlast 2. Confirmed.

It's really frustrating. Between these people and the bro-op action fans who feel betrayed or something after the franchise catered to them across two generations and multiple platforms, I don't get it. RE has been making big gameplay changes long before TPS folks hopped on the wagon so it's weird to hear them scream the loudest about the franchise changing again.

after 6, i thought the series was dead in the water without a reboot - but this kinda feels like that, and ripping off PT when we're not getting that works for me anyway.

so i plan on redboxing it or borrowing it off a friend, cause fuck that - that week is all about Yakuza 0

If you're referrin to the mannequin hand thing to get the coin, the puzzles are not going to be like that. Wish people would stop thinking that was indicative of the puzzles.

To be fair, a demo is supposed to represent what a game will be. Most of the core gameplay is well represented in Beginning Hour except the puzzle part which was really poorly planed.

Maybe, depending on reviews. I was all for the series returning to horror but really don't dig the move to 1st person.

Has there been as final word on what benefits will come from playing on ps4 pro? I'm sure playing in VR will have a much needed performance boost, but I'm looking for 1080p mode specifically. While far from needed one, I've juggled the idea around and it wouldn't hurt at all. I'd automatically grab one if it supported SFV, but Resident Evil could sway me prematurely if the benefits are worth it.

Oh, to the topic at hand, yes. I will buy it, and I will buy it as hard as possible on day one. I'm not waiting to have a good time.

Not after RE6 screwed the pooch. Put me off pre-ordering RE games again after that. Not sold on the style of the game either, not a fan of the aesthetics at all (Baker family seem really lame to me and total Texas Chainsaw Massacre rip offs and story presentation doesn't do much for me either). Seems more like a spin off or new IP than Resident Evil. Besides, there's Yakuza 0 and Gravity Rush 2 coming out soon, so no, not enough money for that then Nier: Automata & Nioh following up on it.

Maybe later in the year once the dust has settled and i have more time to play it, since those other games get precedence for me.

If I can finally make it through the demo without ripping the PSVR headset off, then yeah.

this thread made me check my preorder. was going to cancel because $80 is too much for a game(Canada) but amazon shows it for $40 so im good to go. Not sure when it went cheap but no complaints from me lol.

I'm trying to figure out what system to get it on
OG PS4 or xbox s ?
I would do pc but I can't stand sitting at. a desk

which ever you can find cheapest.

Maybe when it's cheap. I still have the Amnesia Collection and Layers of Fear on the list of my horror games to play.

will i be buying?, not at launch
when?, when its less than £15
why?, it's not a resident evil type game anymore.

With my backlog, probably not, even if it's really good. It'd probably have to be nearly RE4 levels of brilliance for me to even consider playing it this year.

I don't love the change in direction, I just wanted more RE4.
However this game reminds of Alien Isolation which I absolutely loved, so I'm a bit conflicted.

I'm taking a wait and see approach
