Your TV has an ATSC digital tuner, right? You plug in the cable from the antenna into your TV's coax input, and your TV's internal digital tuner (which any recently purchased TV should have, as long as it doesn't say, "HD-ready") processes the signal.

Any piece of wire can capture OTA signal.

Yes but the gain of the antenna is dependent on whether you want or need to boost UHV or VHF signals, each of them carry different channels.

FIOS is like a kid in a candy store in Long Island today. I know at least a couple people that switched last week already.

Why people hadn't already switched should be the question.

I just had to go buy an amplified antenna to get ABC and spent 2 hours moving it around to get a decent signal. Only watch a couple of shows on ABC Lost and Modern Family but I wasn't going to risk them not coming back in time for the new episodes this week. I completely blame ABC because their trying to get money they dont deserve. Local channels are free over the air, and there excuse about cablevison charging for them is BS, there is a fee because they have to deliver you that signal, if you dont want to pay it you dont have to, ABC is basicly saying I need to pay for free TV. If ABC had it there way I would be paying more each month. I currently pay $160 between the cable and internet, I dont want to pay more.

I did not think a cable company was capable of good customer service.
Cablevision most definitely is not. Conflicts like this always end in the networks favor because the anger gets directed at the provider. By giving away "free"
its not free, cablevision gets its money from the customers
movies and sending out emails Cablevision is trying to get anger directed towards Disney.

I tried that free video on demand for a few movies in HD and it didn't work. :lol
:lol I was thinking there was a small chance of lots of people using it at the same time crippling it. Cable companies notoriously oversubscribe their internet but since VoD is on their local network I didn't think it would be an issue. But who knows maybe it's just taking a while for them to flip the switch.

Cablevision agreeing to arbitration doesn't mean much if ABC (Disney) doesn't want to go to arbitration.

Obviously, just shows that they are willing to come to some sort of agreement. ABC if they dont agree kinda looks like they feel they wont get what they want if it went to Arbitration.

Cablevision isn't terrible, just overpriced. Time Warner Cable in New York is a joke.

Time Warner>>>Cablevision>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>FIOS
Would have switched to fios except for 2 things 1- contract, 2- Howard Stern on Demand isnt on fios.

At least I can get a free On Demand movie :lol

I was really wanting to have a nice relaxing evening watching the awards. Oh well.

First of all the Knicks suck, the Garden sucks, and should be demolished for a new train station, to repent for the sin against the city. Moynihan does not count, it is one super block to far west.

Now that we have the unsightly bit of business out of the way in addressing your avatar.

An Arbitrator would simply say, ABC is free OTA, so you have no right to declare a high fee, then they would give Disney a significantly smaller sum than they requested.

If you can get it to work. I tried a few times and its not working and judging from other comments it's on Cablevision's end that's the problem.

Why the hate man, cant get good seats?:D
Agree with your assesment of the situation, which is why I hold ABC more to blame.

Can't get a good game, a good team, or a good sport.

Quick question, I'm in radio shack now, I was gonna get the $10 VHF ANTENNA but the cashier said it won't work with the digital converter box...I'm not trying to pay $60 for a supposed HDTV ANTENNA...will the $10 rabbit ears work or not? Thanks
Make one, I'm serious. Here's the video.

WRONG.

Fios doesn't have local news channels, and the killer, NO MSG HD.

So if you like the Islanders, Rangers, Devils, or Knicks, Fios will ensure that you have to watch them on a shitty, blurry SD feed.

Dont get Fios, please!

Maybe because people on Long Island like to watch their local hockey team in HD?

Or watch News 12 Long Island?

God Fios is such shit. I know 7 different people who hated it and had to switch back. Cable wanted them back badly enough to pay for their contract termination fee also.

Okay, I do feel that pain. The Sabres are handled via MSG, and FiOS doesn't have the HD feed yet (granted, our hockey team is back-asswards enough that only home games are HD anyway lol)

Or watch News 12 Long Island?

wth? I get all the locals here.

Interesting. Apparently it sucks in Long Island. Certainly doesn't in other locations.

The only problem I have with Cablevision is their prices. I'm pretty sure that my monthly bill comes to over $200. That's with Optimum boost, Silver plan, a few cable boxes, and an international channel. I can't complain about 725 GB uploaded and 200 GB downloaded in a 30 day span without any issues. :lol

Maybe because not everyone on LI can get FIOS?

I would've gotten it 4 years ago but when I checked the site it ALWAYS says "unfortunately not available in your area."

They'd have to rip up the road, and it doesnt look like thats gonna happen anytime soon unfortunately.

Are you purposely being obtuse?

The poster I was responding to stated he knows of several people that switched last week due to the impending ABC thing. Obviously I was referring to people that have FiOS availability :\

Most areas have it via pole, just like telephone and cable.

Oh ok my bad. Didnt catch that. I'm just pissed at all of the people I know saying "OMGZ DUDE SWITCH TO FIOS DUDE" when we cant. :(

it's okay.

I'm disappointed to hear FiOS service in LI (where available) apparently isn't that great. It's so much better than the cable offerings in my area.

Indeed, I'm not so miffed about the TV service since all I really watch is Saved by the bell(TBS) in the morning, seinfeld when I get home, 24 on mondays, lost on tuesdays(ABC, will now watch online) and the military channel and G4, thats about it. I'm more interested in the internet connection speed since my buddy has it about 10 miles west of where I am and its really fast on his end.

Can't you just upgrade to Optimum Ultra.

Eh, thats my dad for ya. He's more interested in the TV part and I'm more interested in the internet part, but I have tried to get him to do it but he wont bite. Oh well. :/

I don't watch TV, so I'm not the one who decided on Cablevision, but I got the e-mails and also saw a piece on ABC about it, and I don't understand it. Cablevision said they pay them $200 million per year and they're asking for a $40 million raise, which Cablevision does not think is appropriate... but ABC says their channel is free and doesn't want Cablevision making money off of it...

I think they're both crap companies, though, and I don't even watch TV. I didn't know the Oscars were on.:lol

Although now that I think about it, I wish I were home to take advantage of the free on-demand movies.
