So, did Bloodborne really not win anything at Gaming Awards 2015 ?

I want to point out that Splatoon beat out both Titanfall and Destiny for Best multiplayer.

The niche reason don't apply anymore, neither does exclusive

Witcher was the second hardest game on that list behind Bloodborne. And many reviews noted how difficult the higher difficulties were and even recommended starting on blood and bones irrc.

Witcher 3 is easy and has easy mode options that I guarantee you most of them on the panel used.

Miyazaki ties in his story in with gameplay. having shields and spells would make Bloodborne just another Dark Souls, not to mention being out of place. Besides, the DLC fixes most of the issues you listed.

Haven't played the DLC ... And I'm sure when voting happened for the Awards, neither had the judges... Because it literally just came out what, 2 weeks ago?

It's the DiCaprio of video games. Dark Souls 3 won't win anything either. Thems be the breaks. It not winning an award at the show doesn't mean it's not just as deserving, nor as good a game as the winners were.

Bloodborne isn't dark souls, period. You can make builds with over 20 different weapons Idk why I'm arguing, I feel like people who are commenting haven't played the game.

lol, are you seriously suggesting The Witcher 3 isn't super well known and mainstream? Come on son.
Are you seriously suggesting that the multi million selling heavily marketed ps4 exclusive game that came out when not much else was available on the market isn't super well known at this point. The narrative people are trying to craft here is absolutely insane.

Witcher 3 is not easy and how in the hell would a guarantee that you can't back up hold up under scrutiny?

Damn you, laughed out loud in the middle of the office.

Well at least Bloodborne wasn't in Monster Hunter's situation. It lost best handheld/mobile when the rest of the nominees were mobile games and MH is a very heavy in gameplay mechanics. Kind of weird the judges went with Lara on the Go, since from personal experience (only nominee I didn't play was Downwell), in the time it takes you to beat all tthe other nominees, you are still a scrub hunter in MH.

I could only assume the judges couldn't get past Father Gascoigne and gave up

Where with ori they were like "oh look pretty colors"

If we're airing out dumb grievances about awards, I'd like to use this post to whine about the very little work that went into the nominees for Best Soundtrack.

I mean

No Heavensward.

No Legend of Legacy

No Undertale

No Lisa The Joyful

Wasted on nominees that spend most of their tracklengths trying to emulate hollywood movies. Like, that's completely expected, but if you're gonna throw Her Story into some categories, why not?

Well on my overall list it's the same so far. I understand people would vote that way
1. The Witcher 3
2. Bloodborne

You guys don't need to come up with excuses or lambaste the show because it didn't win. You're still allowed to like the game just as much as you did before, the judges just happened to enjoy the other games more than it. And there's nothing wrong with that, it's still going to be my personal game of the year and if it's yours that's all that should really be important to you.

Why are people using the exclusive and/or niche excuse when:

Best Multiplayer

Splatoon – developed by Nintendo (Winner)
Call of Duty: Black Ops III – developed by Treyarch
Destiny: The Taken King – developed by Bungie
Halo 5: Guardians – developed by 343 Industries
Rocket League – developed by Psyonix

Best Shooter

Splatoon – developed by Nintendo (Winner)
Call of Duty: Black Ops III – developed by Treyarch
Destiny: The Taken King – developed by Bungie
Halo 5: Guardians – developed by 343 Industries
Star Wars Battlefront – developed by EA Digital Illusions CE

Like, if you had told me that Splatoon was going to won those 2 categories I would have laughed... and I love the game =/

Just like with Undertale, if you enjoyed it, who gives a shit if it didn't win any awards. It got good reviews, but there can only be one winner per category.

It may not be through Bloodborne, but From Software will eventually end up getting awards just because of how they've pushed themselves to the top. It may not even be wholly deserved when they do win, but they will be rewarded for their effots. Look at CDPR.

I like Bloodborne, I do.
But I don't like Bloodborne as much as Dark Souls.

My reasoning being: Bloodborne feels like a very stripped down version of Dark Souls.

-No defensive options (other than dodge and "git good").

-Stripped down character classes (no cleric, mage, pyromancy, etc) you're going to swing a weapon at things close range, and you're going to like it.

-Limited stats... Seriously? Where are all the stats? Dark Souls has them in spades and it's great.

Also that frame pacing issue that makes your game feel like it's hiccuping every 10 seconds doesn't really help...

I imagine the judges felt the same way...

Well, these changes are kinda the point. It doesn't want to be Dark Souls 3, because that game is alreayd being made. Edge makes some really good points about that in their greatest games ever special.

I don't think that's the reason why it didn't win. These more niche and harcore games with steeper learning curves and more technical gameplay will always have a harder times at shows aimed at a mass market. See Bayo 2 versus fucking Dragon Age last year.

Rich Stanton made a beautiful case for Bloodborne's storytelling. but its narrative wasn't even nominated for example. Probably because it's unconvential and more of a non-chronological puzzle with blanks you have to fill in yourself, yet it fuses mechanics, themes and lore in a far more organic way than other games and is all the better for it in my opinion.

He got beat out by MC in his role in Dallas, I believe Leo was up for the wolf of Wall Street
MM won pretty much everything for that role. Both actors were great but I had MM as a front runner. Around Oscar time that year I think it was a 2 horse race between MM and the dude from 12 years a slave.

This was the same award show that gave GotY to Dragon Age: Inquisition over Bayonetta 2, right?

I'm not too bothered then.

EDIT:

Also gave Best Action/Adventure to Shadow of Mordor over Bayonetta 2. Forgot that one.

nope, not bothered at all.

Eh, Dark Souls didn't win anything in 2011, so I wasn't expecting Bloodborne to win anything either. It's always nice to see the games you love win an award, but it's inconsequential and doesn't mean it's any lesser for it. It's my favorite game this year, but I'm happy it was at least nominated in a few categories even if it didn't amount to any wins.

Note that the award isn't best OST (original soundtrack) but best score/soundtrack. MGSV won because it has a nice mix of original tracks combined with a bunch of stellar 80s tunes. If you think that's unfair then okay then, but that's usually how awards do their soundtrack category.

Witcher 3 is not easy and how in the hell would a guarantee that you can't back up hold up under scrutiny?

I've watched quite a few reviewers play games and heard a lot of them comment on other reviewers. They've said many, many times that when they go to review events most of the people there are completely awful at them.

Even GameTrailers, who are better than most reviewers at games, aren't exactly great at them.

bloodborne not winning anything is a damn travesty

definitely my goty

well... I haven't played XCX yet, but if anything it will be a tie between those two

Doesn't deserve to win anything to be honest. It's not really a great game and doesn't appeal to a lot of people. It's such an overrated game.

Dark Souls won the most important award of 2011

Greg Kasavin's #2 on his top 10 list of 2011.

it lost to Tactics Ogre so you can't feel bad about it

Yeah, they only give awards to big multi-platform hit's like Splatoon, Mario Maker and Her Story.

Yes, those noted Western games Splatoon, Mario and MGS V. Damn them.

Which is why the noted epic story of Rocket League beat out those narrative no-shows Undertale, Her Story and Ori for best Indie, right?

Guys guys, you just don't get it. Only Bloodborne is the super duper niche game that was nominated for anything, period. All those other games are like ultra mainstream. Especially Her Story.

Some people here are taking awards shows too seriously. For the most part, they are just huge marketing promos dressed up in extravagance and fun. Everything from the awards themselves, the adverts, the host, the celebrities (Shaq, etc.), the humor, the live music performances, even how guests are dressed...it's all a cohesive sales pitch. Lighten up, have a little fun bantering about them if you want, and then move on.

Also, different people have different opinions and all that.

Well deserved and more content coming out still and free.

Yes it did.

Oh my god the reasons people are saying the judges didn't pick it are just hilarious.

"Not mainstream enough"
"Too hard"
"Not enough bright colors"
"Hate that it's an exclusive"
"They don't care about gameplay"

I think this calls for a bingo card?

What did bloodborne do that the other soul's game haven't done? Just because Bloodborne/souls games have a cult like fans. It doesn't mean everybody likes them or are different or special.

Whatever

Im just happy that Souls games continute to be successful and prevalent

Who cares if the series is never a mainstream darling

As long as Miyazaki keeps making great games... maybe the next Series debut in this style that he does in a new setting will be the one that catches everyones eyes
