So, does anyone actually miss the FF XIII-sub franchise?

I would dig a remaster on PS4. The trilogy (especially LR) with 1080/60 and those little bonuse features like with X and VII on a console would sell.

At times I roll my eyes at Square's tendency to endlessly remake their classic games. Then I remember their FF-13 trilogy attempts at modern game design and start to get comfortable with more remakes. Bring on Vagrant Story iOS.

Fuck no. FF XIII's story is the worst pile of shit in the manline series, and the sequels somehow managed to make it even worse. They wasted an entire generation on this fucking turd.

I enjoyed the 13 trilogy. Sure, it was clearly born from desperation to recoup development costs, but I liked the end result, and it's a unique thing in the series' history now.

Also, the soundtracks were goddamn amazing, even if the games did little for you.

Those games should have never been made. The majority of the fan base didn't want them and the end result was 3 mediocre games that will forever be seen as a shit stain in Square's FF catalog.

Not even a little bit but to be fair to FFXIII every FF world is a one-and-done affair for me, except for the Ivalice Alliance games. I will enjoy the games for their mechanics (sometimes) but every single Final Fantasy game that spun off from a main entry I've found utterly forgettable in terms of story, characters or worldbuilding.

I didn't love FF12 so I was like "enh, one misstep is fine." Then FF13 came out. It's now been a full decade since and I'm not sure my interest in the brand survived Lightning and company. What a fucking debacle.

FFVIII was strike one.
FFXII was strike two.
FFXIII was strike three.

I hated FFXIII so much that I traded it back in to GameStop less than a day after buying it. If anything, Square's insistence on trying to shove FFXIII down my throat for an additional two games only served to strengthen my resolve to stay far, far away from modern Final Fantasy games.

I find it extremely difficult to like a protagonist with a complete lack of empathy to the point of it being sociopathic especially when said protagonist doesn't really get her shit called out on.

To the degree that I enjoyed it, they gave me a Denny's sized plate of food and I'm totally full and a maybe a bit sick at how much I ate.

You can make another world that invokes that similar fantasy appeal. You can create another attractive strong female character.

I think I'm fine with XIII laying dormant.

I just went back and got the treasure hunter trophy, so i now have the platinum for the entire trilogy.

Things i want from the inevitable remaster

1.Visuals hold up very nicely and the frame rate is already consistent, 1080p with some extra AA would pretty much cover this area.
2.Mini games and side quests to help break the Cutscene/battle/cutscene design. The side quests should also help explain things that the datalog does, we shouldnt have to read any datalog to understand the story.
3.Quality of life improvements. eliminate the treasure hunter trophy entirely, have enemies drop gil, dramatically improve drop rates, CP, and overall rewards for 5 star victories.
4.They need to explain exactly how much XP you need to master a weapon or accessory, and how much that weapon/accessory will improve. You should also get all of your components back when you dismantle them. That way you dont get stuck with a weapon you dont want.

This is just off the top of my head, but i think these improvements would make the game much more enjoyable for most people.

I really liked Final Fantasy XIII (and to a lesser extent XIII-2 and Lightning Returns), but I'm okay with everyone just moving on. It's better for Square, for the series and also for fans (who bemoan Square's "obsession" with XIII and Lightning despite bringing her up far more often than the company does). Still, I'll be thinking about the game for a long time. It may not have been executed particularly well, but I really did love the world, mythology, art, etc. that they made for the series. It's probably my biggest gaming 'what if'. I like what we got but it had the potential for so much more.

Anywho, I'm ready for FFXV and beyond.

I miss the sci-fi aesthetic of Cocoon and its contrast with Pulse in the later parts of the game. Felt like a more impressive version of leaving Midgar in VII, or a better designed Esthar from VIII.

Everything else I'm happy to see put to rest now that Light's a super Saiyan or whatever. Love the trilogy to bits but the story got really weird by the end.

FFS no. Just no. Terrible blight upon the Final Fantasy franchise. If XV is not careful it could be the same, hopefully not.

That's exactly what they were going for. She-Cloud. Doing Cloud things. Becoming the new Cloud. Etc.

Unfortunately it wasn't nearly as charming as the intro to FF VII and failed on that note besides the FMV sequences with the horrible chatter and non-descript NPCs, and after that sequence.... well we all know how it went from there.

The full game of FF XIII can't even be compared fairly to what FF VII offered in its first disc alone.

I want remasters. I would love to play Lightning Returns on console with a decent frame rate.

I really can't explain why I like Lightning Returns so much, other than it's so campy and weird.

I don't "miss them" as such as they're not really going anywhere, but I really wish I had time to go back and finish FFXIII-2. I absolutely loved it (and FFXIII) but sold my 360 before I had time to finish it. I could buy a copy on PS3 but there are so many ace PS4 games around/coming out that I can't see myself getting time to play it any time soon.

Yeah.

I liked being pleasantly surprised with each entry rather than being hyped knowing I'm going to be disappointed.

Call me crazy but I actually enjoyed XIII. I kind of hope we get rereleases on PS4/X1 after XV and The Zodiac Age come out.
Production values, I thought were amazing and the battle system was great.

It definitely wasn't the peak of the franchise, but its not even close to FF2 tier.

Agreed 100%. I truly enjoyed playing FF13. There's a certain type of RPG experience only FF can provide. I enjoyed the battle system. FF13-2 was a bit weirder but still cool. I uderstood the story 100% in FF13, but in FF13-2 i stopped understanding so much. Too much protecting the sanctity of the timeline. 13-3 i never finished, but I was sick of lightning by that point. I enjoyed Snow, and Serah though as characters.

I don't miss them, while XIII is one of my biggest disappointments in gaming, I actually enjoyed XIII-2 and Lightning Returns a lot

I respect other peoples opinions and all but based on what I've seen, Final Fantasy XV is light years ahead of anything Final Fantasy XIII related. If it turns out to be a bad game, which I'm optimistic that it won't, then I'm truly done with this series after a decade long wait.

Best wishes.

Final Fantasy as a whole can be glad I gave it a second chance after 13 since it was the first Final Fantasy I had ever played after Persona 4 actually sparked an interest in JRPGs I didn't have before.

If I went into the series believing every game is as bad as XIII, I never would have played amazing Final Fantasies like IX, VI, XIV Heavensward, Crystal Chronicles, X and XII.

With that said I'm I guess I'm glad I gave the series a second chance and I guess I'm glad for XIII since it makes other FF games look extremely good in comparison, XV (although cautiously) and World of Final Fantasy included.

As far XIII itself is concerned though, I never want to think about playing it again, especially after seeing what the rest of the franchise had to offer.

No I don't miss them. I have them on Steam and only bought them because they were on sale and still kind of regret it.

I absolutely hated the battle system in all of them. In the first 2 games as party rpgs you only enter commands for your one character and the others perform actions based on what role you have assigned to them. That is the very definition of what I hate about the direction this series has gone. I don't want more automation, I want less.

People complaining about how it was game over if your party leader died was always funny to me. It is like they didn't even realize that they were only controlling the actions of the leader. What was the complaint exactly? That your NPC party members didn't revive you? Perhaps you should have examined what was actually going on with this game and levied some complaints that you weren't actually controlling party members. At least with XII I could switch to any character and start issuing commands on top of a robust system that let me customize every detail of their behavior. XV is just another step back from something that was better fleshed out in 2006.

I enjoyed the games, especially the world that was created in 13(got a bit convoluted in 13-2 though with the time travel paradox crap). I wouldn't want any more games from that series, but I did enjoy them for what they were. If they didn't have the FF name attached to them, they probably would've been much more well received.

Yeah, I really miss it. LR is easily the most enjoyable RPG of the last gen for me, and the only game I ever platinumed. I'm very interesting in seeing what Toriyama's team does next. I think a game with better/more though out story and LR's mechanics for PS4 could be absolutely spectacular.

.

Visually FFXIII and XII are the most successfull FFs. There I started loving Kamikokuryo's enviromental works over other artists in S-E.

I thoroughly enjoyed XIII-2.

I couldn't push myself to finish XIII and after playing Lightning Returns for 2 hours I uninstalled it and stared at a mirror questioning the existence of a loving God.

But XIII-2 was good. And gave us the most hilarious Chocobo theme ever.

Also I mean, Serah is hot.

No way in hell.

I was ready for it to be over before it even began. The way they dragged it out has only served to alienate me from the series for almost 10 years now.

This isn't a thread about XI

This isn't a thread about XIV 1.0.

OP, I enjoyed the hell out of 13-2 and LR -- Square Enix at more of its....experimental, almost PS2-era wackiness (maybe way moreso with LR, which is basically a Valkyrie Profile game in disguise).

I wouldn't mind a 'sub-series' of sorts if it gives SE's developers more room to breathe and be creative. However, I think their recent push into mid-tier games/partnering with other developers is satisfying that need quite well.

I've only played through the first one at this point but I would jump in again if they made a game centered around Sazh.
