Decade+ ago or so, I got a splinter of hot metal in my eye. Doctor numbed the eye with some drops, then took a scalpel looking knife and pair of tweezers and fished the metal slag out.
The doctor was a weird dude, he brought the eyemetal over in his hand to me and my dad in the waiting room afterwards and was like "look look you wanna see it?, look!" ha

Being fully awake and watching someone carve into your open eye is strange, but it wasn't a big deal at all.

Haha fuck that that's is something from my nightmares. I would have to be knocked out or on enough morphin to kill a small child for me to go threw that...

Maybe its fallen out for more efficient methods but doctors were using maggots to eat away rotting and dead flesh on patients not that long ago.

Doctors still use this, and for a simple reason, it works. Guess what does not work? Blood letting, trepanning or this eye scrapping insanity, your eyes clean by themselves with tears, there is zero need to put sharp objects or any object near them unless extreme cases that require surgery.
