So...games with ACTUALLY good endings

Gravity Rush's ending was neat. Made me want a sequel real bad, so it did its job. Toyama's games tend to be very loose, open ended and ambiguous. Same case with Siren 1, Silent Hill & Siren: Blood Curse. Siren 2 might be the only game that really has any kind of real conclusion that he's made.

Think that Max Payne 2 had the best ending in gaming. It was such a great closure to Max's journey. The last dialog "I had a dream of my wife. She was dead. But it was alright" will forever stick with me.

Nintendo and Platinum seem to have a real knack for this.

Earthbound
Mother 3
Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask
Metroid II
Super Metroid
Donkey Kong '94
Pokemon Snap (Mew! Especially at a time when most people considered him to be a rumor or a joke or impossible to ever see)
Wind Waker
Xenoblade
Super Mario Galaxy
Yoshi's Island
A Link to the Past
Link's Awakening
A Link Between Worlds
Wonderful 101
Bayonetta

I'd even argue that the original Zelda does this well -
You stand triumphant over Ganon's ashes.
Even in 8-bit, it's still pretty badass.

Also special mention to the Ace Attorney trilogy. That whole last case was a perfect conclusion to both the game and the previous entries as well. Stellar stuff.

None of y'all ever played arcade games have you?
Off the top of my head
Final Fight 1
Metal Slug games
AvP
Cadillacs vs. Dinosaurs

TO name a few.

FF is great. This butler looking motherfucker uses a wheelchair so people feel all sorry for his ass and don't fight him. Then this dude whips out a crossbow and holds your girl hostage. So you throw this not-handicapped dude out of his wheelchair because he wanted to create an Outer Heaven for gangs and, in his words, "troubled youth".

In other games, you'd tie him up at the end in some rope, drop him off at the police station, or watch him escape while your character sobs about how the fight isn't over (usually followed with some friends being like LOL ITS KOOL DUDE WE WIL ALWAYS BE AROUND).

Not in Final Fight. Cody knocks his goofy ass out of a something hundred story window for being a dick. That's it. That's the end of him. No "oh I sure hope the city is safe". Nah son, the city is definitely safe now, because the leader is a stain on the pavement underfoot Cody and his girl as they make out.

(Subsequent games introduce new bosses, but still.)

My ending in the Witcher 3 is what I wanted from the game as a fan from the books.

The Wonderful 101, Xenoblade Chronicles, Persona 4... those ending leave a good taste in my mouth.

I also will say that A Link between worlds have the best thought ending from the whole series, with actual surprises.
And Super Mario World the best credits ending for Mario games.

One of the only games I can think of where I got chills when the credits started to role

This and Ghost Trick are the correct answers.

Lol at all those FF IX mentions. What are people on these days? Wasn't the endboss some weird ass being with barely any connection to the rest of the story?

Metal Gear Solid 3 and 4.

Ending D of NieR.

Valkyria Chronicles.

Persona 3 and 4. Being a fanboy of 3 I like that ending more than 4.

Tearaway has the best ending ever. It's a cherry on top of a great game. I wasn't expecting anything that would actually get me in a game like this, but I actually had happy tears when it was done and over.

I think this is kind of obnoxious topic. Actually good endings? Anyone can find an ending you find Actually good crappy.

I thought the Last of Us ending was really shitty. I get the execution but I thought it was crap.

Anyways

- Metal Gear Solid 3
- Xenosaga Episode 3 (The most satisfying ending of any game I've ever played)
- Final Fantasy IX (Such a happy ending)
- Skyward Sword
- Metal Gear Solid 2
- Lightning Returns (For some reason, I really liked this game more than XIII & XIII-2)

Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.
MGS1.
MGS2.
MGS3.

Kojima used to be really good at endings, believe it or not. A long time ago.

It's much easier to make an open ending where things are left to interpretation/the imagination than one where you actually have to explain stuff.

Ico -
Yorda sends you away from the castle, unconscious in a boat, and after waking and exploring the beach, you find her also washed ashore, at the very end of the cove. It was such an emotional moment after thinking you'd lost her
:*)

The Last of Us, Uncharted 2, The Witcher 3 (variable), Until Dawn (variable), Red Dead Redemption, the original Bioshock, all three Infamous games, GTA V.

I must be the only person that thought MGSV's ending was OK, the way people go on you would swear it was a crime against humanity. I liked the whole
Big-Boss twist, and since I hadn't been following the game pre-release I didn't explicitly see it coming (though I kinda suspected that it was a possibility)
. Until I found out about
Episode 51, the unfinished Eli story didn't strike me as strange either. Plenty of games have planted worse sequel-bait
.

My favorite endings are:

Spec-Ops: The Line
Ocarina of Time
The Force Unleashed (both endings)
MGS3
Mass Effect 2
Assassins Creed 2
TLOU
Bioshock Infinite & Lost at Sea
ICO
SOTC
Resident Evil 3
PoP SoT
PoP2008
South Park: The Stick of Truth

It probably has been mentioned, but Final Fantasy VI. Satisfying in every possible way.

Even though thanks to Fridge Logic you realize that despite killing the final boss the apocalypse happened already and not a lot is left in a dying world

Also:

- Megaman X5 (which should have been the true end of the series.
- Resident Evil 2
- Valkyria Chronicles
- Psychonauts
- Prince of Persia (2008) without the DLC
- Portal 2

And well, really conflicted here, but... FF VII: Crisis Core. You know how the game ends, there's no way you can change things, and yet you are hoping for a miracle.

Not exactly an ending, but the 2.55 'end' of FFXIV:ARR "And their eyes, ever HEAVENSWARD" hyped me as fuck.

Uncharted 2, Shadow of the Colossus, The Last of Us, Persona 4 Golden, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. All had strong endings that left me very satisfied after completion.

The Last of Us has a good ending that is actually a case where the best possible outcome didn't happen. Supports the entire narrative flow the story, doesn't feel like a cheap emotional cop out. I have other problems with that story but the ending was very satisfying.

The Walking Dead S1 though, holy shit. What a fantastic, zero sympathy ending. Game doesn't give a shit about you and I love it.

Tearaway was good too, Portal 2 was great, Silent Hill 2, Final Fantasy X.

Walking Dead S1 still blows me away. Too bad they mucked it all up with S2.

Zelda: A Link Between Worlds has a beautiful ending that really makes you appreciate everything that happened in the game.

also one of my favourites. Same goes for SotC. I don't understand why people keep saying that Last Guardian will have a sad ending when both Ico and SotC have happy endings and Fumito Ueda is such an upbeat guy.

Cant really agree with this. Yea the ending itself was awesome but the way you are just back in the world with the timeline set back.....you feel lifeless and a longing to at least see some of the npcs that were with you for the journey.

I just finished the Witcher 3. Are those NPCs no where and taken out of the world?
