So getting a Wii U during Black Friday is going to be a massacre, right?

I'm planning to visit the US during/close to Black Friday to get the awesome deals, and to buy a Wii U of course, but I'm just wondering how freaking hard will this be. I'm kinda scared to be honest.

Do you guys remember how was Black Friday during the time the Wii and PS3 Launched? I just remember I couldn't get a damn Wii for like a year, and from what it seems the Wii U will be as hard to find.

It's only one of the craziest time of the year. I recall there was a Wal-Mart shooting during the PS3's launch.

Why didn't you preordered the thing online, and asked to send to where you would be? It would be the way easier!

Chances of Amazon putting up bundles? I bought a PS3 last BF and didn't have any trouble. Certainly a thousand times better than staying up all night at the Sears that was close to my apartment.

Dumbness from my part. I seriously didn't think it was going to be sold out as soon as it did.

Wii U pre orders are great and your planning to try to buy one on Black Friday which is crazy because people push people to make sure they get what they want.

Don't make the same mistake as you did with the Wii, pre order the Wii U while you have the chance!

I got a Wii U I could sell you.

My anecdotal experience:

Morning of Black Friday after Wii launch, drove to local Gamestop at 3am. Nobody there but me until 5am and they opened at 7am. I was the first in line and the first to get 1 of 3 Wiis they had. Easy peasy. Your results may vary. Avoid places where there would be competition for other mega deals like Walmart and Target and Best Buy.

Trying to buy anything during Black Friday is a massacre. Watching people camp out, rush stores, and get physically violent with each other all for relatively minor savings is always crazy to me.

Well Black Friday just keeps getting crazier each year. Pretty sure it got really violent last year; at the least, I recall someone punching, a crazy lady spraying a bunch of kids with mace to get something, and some folks invoking "survival of the fittest". Apparently it isn't uncommon to hear about people getting trampled under BF madness either.

tl;dr you will be destroyed.

I went to WalMart last Black Friday to get a copy of Skyward Sword with both limited edition disc and controller.

It was a zoo.

I think I can wait a few months for a Wii U, rather than subject myself to that again.

Just like the Wii launch, you'll be able to walk into any store and get one within seconds.

EDIT: For your safety, don't do it!

Yeah Black Friday can be fun for the spectacle but unless you have a single specific deal at a single store you are willing to stand outside in the bitter freezing cold for for hours with no guarantee that you can run to it fast enough when the store opens, take it, and sprint to the checkout, GOOD LUCK.

Yep, I've worked at both Target and Best Buy and both have done this.

My Best Buy refused to sell me GT5 CE because they wanted to keep it for Black Friday. A month or two later they were discounted to like $60. They lost a sale lol

Look, you'll have to get some blood on your hands. I know it's not exactly what you're expecting but you're going to have to accept this if you go through with this plan.

I always felt like piece of shit when people would ask if we had Wiis in stock. We were instructed to say things like "we have none available" to not actually be lying.

I have done black friday shopping before, but casual, no camp outs or anything crazy as their as good sales. One place I will never go is Walmart. The place is filled with low life scum on a regular day, so black friday is just a disaster waiting to happen. They need riot police to occupy Walmart stores on BF.

Yeah unless you camp out I think you're screwed. I'd probably avoid Walmart (even though they may have a greater supply of the system then a small gamestop would). Best of luck to you if you do camp out.

Haven't you read all the WiiU threads on Gaf, there are so many people who don't want one
which of course has no bearing on the fact that you are probably screwed for black friday :P

You'll need to show up at the store about 36 hours before it opens.

You'll need this:

and this:

And I'm not joking. They start camping on store sidewalks in my town the night before Thanksgiving.

You aren't just fighting people who want a WiiU. You're also fighting people who want $300 50" Flatscreen TVs, and $200 laptops.

I don't know why you'd get one on Black Friday. No way they're going to have a sale on a console that is literally only a week old.

I already have 2 Deluxe WiiU consoles pre-ordered at 2 different retailers here in Toronto. The first for $350 and the second for $300 (yay tsilon.ca coupon) but I don't want to cancel the first one because I placed the second one yesterday and I'm afraid that one won't get to me at launch.

Anyone hoping to get one during Black Friday in the States is crazy.
