So how about that Yakuza 5 release date

A PS4 Yakuza game would likely sell more than a PS3 Yakuza game, but not enough to make the cost of porting Yakuza 5 to PS4 worth it. Better to instead use one of the Yakuza games that already has a PS4 version.

It might not cost all that much since the Game Engine is already ported with Yakuza 0. They arent remaking it for PS4 , just porting it over.

There is a Yakuza for Vita? That's news to me!

It was a port of Yakuza 4 running on Vita I think. Mostly just a concept thing , to showcase its power.

I think the thing everyone hoping for a PS4 version need o remember is that a lot of the Yakuza fans this was translated for already preordered it on the PS3. It would be a bit of a kick to the face to then then show it available for another console like that, unless they allowed us to refund and buy that one, which would be an ordeal.

Just because they sent out review copies doesn't mean the game hasn't been delayed because of technical issues. Reviewers are often asked to ignore certain bugs that the developers know about and plan to fix for release.

make it cross buy

Thats not really a problem , they can just let people switch their orders.

I mean at this point , even a PS NOW version would make them more money.

Ah, so my point of them not showing an actual Yakuza game outside of Asia still stands true.

I mean yea , but at the time everyone was thinking it was Yakuza 4 Vita port. I feel like the game itself lends it self better to trailers since it has fancy cutscenes and pretty good tech. But yea its never going to happen as long as Sega doesnt wanna take a legit effort to bring it to the west.

I feel like a title like Yakuza Ishin/Kenzan would have no problem showcasing a Trailer at E3 or PSX. Samurais are way more popular than Yakuza in the West. Kinda dumb of Sega to not get on that train.

SEGA could promote Yakuza 0 or 1 Extreme to hell and back in the west, and it would hardly do a lick of good; the average consumer may not be interested in a game where you beat the living shit out of street punks as a badass manly Yakuza.

No 1 problem of Yakuza games - Everyone thinks its GTA in Japan , I mean its not really a small audience. Tons of people like GTA, tons of people like Japanese stuff. Then when they start the game cant get into a car and shit they are like WTF??

It needs to be marketed to the right audience. This game is more a RPG Beat em up than an open world GTA type game.

And that is why I shall never understand Joe Public.

I should also add that said manly Yakuza beats up street punks as he was escorting his hostess date to the karaoke to get funky and then proceed to playing baseball and bowling while ending the night by hitting up the SEGA Arcade and getting a slick gift for her from the UFO Catcher all the time getting 3 items with one coin.

Just promote it as an action game.

For a game that really needs everything to break its way to make money, they're really trying to go out of their way to fuck it over.

Isn't this supposed to be a vanity project? I'm not sure if they care that much about making money since it is a niche title releasing on the PS3 in 2015.

^It will probably get like 5 seconds time, like "oh yeah, Yakuza is out today, my boss told me to mention it, moving on Uncharted 4 and its awesomeness is a sight to behold..."

PS3 only, no marketing and a really long ass wait to boot...Yakuza to the bin for good. It really is shitty for Yakuza fans.

The worst part is all of those Yakuza games like 0 and Extreme which we are probably never going to get.

I feel like Yakuza could do really great if Sony/Sega give it a chance during one of big conferences. I'm not just talking about a trailer. I think Yakuza is the kind of game that would benefit a lot from a 5 minute live stage demo. Showing a section of the game where Kiryu beats the hell out of people with tons of weapons and heat actions which would be finished with an awesome mano a mano boss fight could do a lot of wonders in Yakuza's brand recognition in west.

Obviously it wouldn't sell GTA or COD numbers or even remotely close to that but I'm quite confident that if done right it could easily make the series pull off half a million or so in the west alone.

Say we get an announcement for another Yakuza game at PSX in addition to the Yakuza 5 date. What would it be?
Yakuza 0 or Kiwami or 6?

We're so behind...

Ishin during early PS4 days with a new branding was a chance to establish a bigger audience for the series here. Thin launch years mixed with market leader hype can help even niche titles a lot, but now it's too late again, let alone on PS3 PSN, where they won't even get all of their previous fans anymore.

Kiwami makes the most sense as it's the formal entry point in the series and could technically be looked at as a second chance for the franchise on PS4. Since the Y5 announcement and Y4 hitting PS+ a while ago, a lot more people are aware of what the game is regardless of whether or not they intend to buy Yakuza 5, so that's a plus. So I would say Kiwami then 0 and then 6. I can't possibly imagine 6 coming before either of those despite being chronologically accurate.

Not surprised. It's a massive game that was never planned to be localized.

I wish it was out too, but what can you do?

I'm not too bothered with the wait as I know I will have as much, if not more, fun with Yakuza 5 than I will with any other big release coming out over the next few months. The lack of communication is poor though.

I just realized that they can put Yakuza 5 on PS Now for those that only have a PS4.

It's a viable alternative at least.

I would really want to try out Yakuza ishin and 0/remake and i have no experience with any prior games in the series or am a big fan of Japanese made games or their art yet Ishin and Yakuza as a whole, i find the organization extremely interesting so the series intrigues me. So maybe there is an appeal but it's just that Sega/Sony haven't marketed it as well as they could have.

This.... Just skip out the Yakuza name , call it "Ishin" and market it as a Samurai action game and it would have been the best selling title in the series.

Huge install base with barely any titles even niche titles will sell. Especially since early adopters are the more hardcore gamer crowd.

Next bump on this thread is for the release date... Deal? Got hyped way too much each time I see a thread like this

see you in December

I'm sure it's totally worth wasting money on a western ps4 port when there are more posts in this thread than people that will buy it. It bombed on PS2, 3 and it will bomb on 4 if they'll ever localize anything again. They had a chance to release Ishin along with the pathetic ps4 early gen lineup but they missed it.
Also, it's pretty ridiculous to think that (real) fans won't be buying it because they can't be bothered to plug in their ps3 to play it.

There is a Yakuza for Vita? That's news to me!
They ported the engine to make kind of free companion "apps" (they're more like actual small games) so they might put it to use sometime in the future, maybe.
It always looked like too much effort just for that. They do look good, though. Ishin, Zero

Not the "realistic" japanese stuff apparently! The only way for Yakuza to do well over here is by putting an anime coat of paint over it and upping the "wife" ratio big time -_-

Wouldn't be surprised at all ta hear that Akiba's Trip outsold Yakuza 4 for instance.

It's being held back for the surprise PS4 announcement at PSX.
Is it a surprise if everyones expecting this o.o?

If there is a PS4-non crossbuy version, I will rage.

I mean I guess I would put Yakuza in the same category as Asian crime-drama movies. Those are pretty popular. I mean Sleeping dogs did millions in the west right? Theres no reason a Yakuza game shouldn't at least cross 100k.

The action genre isn't exactly niche , I mean it has soo many million sellers here. Its 2015 , I honestly cant think of any half decent game that has sold less than 100k ( Shenmue 3 has more backers than some Yakuza titles lol) . This series deserves better. I wish they would just hand over the western publishing duties to Atlus.

On that note , How exactly does Sega keep this franchise running? It seems pretty high budget ( Maybe not as much as western AAA ) with all the fancy VAs and stuff. Then it goes to sell like what? 500k worldwide. And yet when Bayonetta and Vanquish come close to 2mil worldwide , they think it failed.

maaaan I remember back in the days the Yakuza game came out and like but it came out on the same day as I think Final Fantasy 13?

so I bought them both but I'm like I dont have time to play both of these games

so I played FF fisrt instead.

and man that FF13 was one horrible game lol.but I beat it in like 50 hours...

now we got another FF game coming out for WiiU called Xenoblade that I might play instead of Yakuza again becoz Yakuza jus doesnt want to come out!!!

I feel bad that I'm not excited for this. But man its been SO LONG since Yakuza 5 came out in Japan. Being a Yakuza fan in the west is just depressing. :(

The short answer is that it's cheaper to produce than you think.

The slightly longer answer is that this is how bad console development is in Japan when the 600k or so that Yakuza 5 sold is a mega success, so you take it where you can get it.
