So I accidentally stole a iPod from Wal*Mart

Just came from Wal*Mart a couple of hours ago (Right when the electronics was closing) and I asked the lady if she could help me out and get a iPod Silver. It was some older, fat foul-smelling lady who seemed nice but I doubt she comprehended what the iPod actually was when I had to explain to her what I wanted and that GB was Gigabyte. But she was so nice and when she rang me up (Silver 8GB iPod Nano) it came to 62 bucks and some change. I was confused but I went ahead and gave her my money and walked out the store entirely happy with my purchase. I had chalked it up to that being my first (and probably last) WalMart Credit Card purchase since I just recieved my physical card in the mail a few days ago.

I got home and looked at the receipt and it said "8GB RCA MP3, Silver". I kind of panicked but i mean.. no harm no foul, right? I am kind of shit out of luck if I have to return it because I'm willing to bet I wont have time between now and Christmas to return it unless I go aaalllll the way out about 45 minutes to the 24/7 WalMart and I don't think it's worth it. So what should I do GAF? Ruin Christmas for my mom by showing up iPod-less or possibly threatening the nice old lady's job?

I just want to hear GAF's opinion.
I more than halfway made up my mind.

Nah, their fault. I thought you accidentally walked out without paying at all - then I would have said go back, but they mispriced, they scanned it, they charged you for it, transaction over. No malice. It is yours in my opinion.

If it was any other faceless organization I'd just say keep it.

But this is Wal-Mart we're talking about here. She'll be lucky if she just loses her job.

It's not your fault Wal-Mart hires inattentive employees. They have insurance to cover such mistakes. Don't worry about it.

Goddammit. I forgot about that.

Encughh.. morals.

Take it back. And find the woman, and perhaps a manager.

Yeah because im thinking that if I took it back and brought it to their attention, then they'd just be more aware of her ineptness and probably fire her then, rather than chalk it up to a possible inventory adjustment and keep it moving. Oh well, I done wrapped it now:D

Dude...

NEVER. EVER. Use me as some kind of moral compass.

You'll end up with a fistful of penis and an anus full of Figs.

Well, if she scanned it and it came up the wrong price, that's not your problem. Many years ago, I went with a friend to Caldor because he wanted to buy golf clubs. So he picks out a set and we get to the register and they ring up .01, yes one penny. The cashier said if that's what they ring up, that is what they have to sell them for.

I doubt anything will happen to her. The product number is likely screwed up in that Wal-Mart's system. Tomorrow or sometime they will discover that "hey! These iPod's are ringing up as something else" and any missing iPod will be seen as the result of that, and it will be an assistant manager's fault but will just be blamed on "problems with the system."

Go buy the product you just got charged for and see if you get an iPod instead.

If they scanned it in their system, sounds like a corporate level UPC mixup.
So its prolly happening at other walmarts.

You must do what you feel is right, of course.

You're probably right. That was my first assumption. Besides I wonder if they even do daily counts on those items?

I was in a similar situation once. It was shortly after I moved out of my parents' house and I had always told myself the first thing I would do when I moved out was buy a snake (stupid, I know, I know). I went to a pet store and bought all the equipment I needed and a baby python. Altogether it was several hundred dollars worth of stuff.

I paid with a check and the clerk told me all about this magical new check verification system they had, where they took down some information and...they didn't even need the physical check anymore! She had me write the check, and she wrote down some of my information, and she insisted I keep the check. I was very confused, and needless to say the check never cleared. Didn't feel too bad about it as it was her mistake, not mine.

Anyway, keep it. Chances are she probably already realized what she did and either kept it to herself or told her boss and they've already adjusted for the mistake. Making big-money mistakes in retail isn't as uncommon as you might think.

I just listen to the squirrel in the cage next to me.

He wants to become a Christian missionary and bring Christianity to the other woodland creatures. I see a glaring flaw in his plan, but he's very adamant about it so...

And if this is a SKU error, you know you must do. Clear out the iPods and Ebay them for a profit. It's the American way

OMG U2?!

:D

I walked out with a bag of dog food the other day from Wal Mart. I forgot to scan it on the manual price scanners. That we have to operate. Because they only have three people on register. For 32 lanes.

Oh well. My moral compass points NSN.

I paid for it.

:lol :lol :lol @ at the fact you equate this to stealing.

Give me a break.
As often as I get overcharged he can use it as some kind of revenge for years of charging me three times for certain products.

I was buying bags of candy at a self check out at K-Mart once, each huge bag came out to 1 penny...i bought every single bag they had...mmmm now and laters...

This guy's the man!

The thread title is soo misleading. Their fault not yours. Return it and both of you should be okay. Plus, I'd rather get iPod than RCA mp3 player. Never heard of RCA mp3 player up till now.

I think the fact that you knew something was wrong when you were there at the scene is what decides that it was indeed theft and not a delightful accident. Chances are this won't go unnoticed since someone will ask if there are more iPods in stock and they'll say "yeah there's only one more!" and it won't be there because you took it. You were planning on paying for it anyway...

That's pretty great. What could she possibly have been thinking?
