So, I got a 360...

My buddy fixed up a broken 360 from eBay and decided to give it to me, so looks like i'm finally in teh next-gen of awesome. I've got it hooked up to my PC monitor (no 1680x1050, wtf) and everything looks to be running pretty well.

The only problem is that there's no hard drive so I was wondering what would be the cheapest way to get one. Is there some hack-ish way that I can get a retail 2.5" drive into an enclosure (maybe from a broken drive off of eBay?) or should I just go legit?

Oh yea, my Gamertag is NeoLeech if anyone wants to add me.

welcome aboard

gamertag to the 360 in my house (my brother's) is Mobius07, if you like playing Rainbow Six Vegas he'll be glad to join up with ya

Yes you can do some hack and slash to get your own hard drive to work with the 360

nope, you need a particular HDD model and even so you can only get 20 or 120 GB to work

:)

IMO it's still not safe to bypass MS's authority. Console banning is real and I'm sure you don't want to buy another. In the near future it may/will become a reality...

you started gaming in 2006, didn't you?

No need to be so bitter now. 360 is definitely in contention for the most pleasure a gaming system has given me, considering its brilliant controller and wonderful system UI integration with online capabilities.

It's a different experience than any gaming console has given me before.

i was just thinking you might want to wait for the actual library to be worth a darn, but that's just me.

You need a hard drive and a gold subscription to get the most out of the system. I always found the Demos to a great diversion. You can loose your self for weeks if you played the demos you are interested in. (can't wait to download Strangle Hold tonight)

Shit I played the heck out of the crackdown demo b4 buying it.

BTW why have the 3ROD on your avatar if you never had a 360 till now?

Go on eBay to get a hard drive. There's a lot of people putting their 20GBs up for sale after getting the 120GB HDD.

I got one for $50.

For reference my current most-valued system experience was with the N64. I don't need a large library to have a blast.

There are a few hard drives up there for $50 but the shipping to Canada's rediculous.

What can/can't I do with an external USB drive?

They don't work on 360. You need the Microsoft drive.

Try to find a seller in Canada. I only had to pay $6 shipping for mine from Quebec City.

off topic,

but kind of relevant for a new 360 owner...is there any way to get mp3's on a 360 other than ripping from cd? I hook my ipod up to it all the time but would be hella convenient if I could just put them on my new 120gb hdd.

I will sell you the spare I have (I now have 3 360's) won't be needing it ever since I got the Elite.

Let me see how much shipping would be to Canada.

NO!

You can just hook up any usb drive to it though, I keep a thumb drive in the thing 24/7.

Do you have any idea as to how your friend fixed it?

I am noticing a few 360's on ebay over here (AU) that have the 3 rings but are really really fucking cheap. And as a wannabe PC tech i have no problem's pulling that baby apart and messing around with it.

I've been hooked on Dead Rising although it's incredibly difficult for me. Gears of War is a good rental for the PC shooter feel. Project Gotham is cheap nowadays if you're into arcade racers with good online modes.

Yeah, get Dead Rising. One of the best games I've ever played. And sign me up to the 'best system ever' crowd too. I don't remember having this much fun with a console since the 16bit era.
