So i got SotN.. but

lol.. yea i know..
but i never got around to playin the game.

is there anyway to make the ps2 card compatible or must i haplessly scrounge around for a ps1 card?

Yeah, I hate it when games aren't programmed to support hardware that doesn't exist yet.

You gotta buy a PS1 card. I still see them in Best Buy for like 3 dollars. I was actually in the exact situation as you, but luckily I found my old MGS save card and used that.

why not make the hardware compatible with existing formats?
The hardware is compatible with existing formats.

What you're asking for is the software to be reprogrammed so that the newer hardware can be recognized. I don't forsee that happening any time soon.

No, the hardware isn't. Is the PS2 memory card compatible with the PS1 game format? There you go. If the SYSTEM can be backwards compatible, its a legit complaint that the mem. card isn't.

What? That doesn't make sense at all.

The one that came later has the burden of compatibility.

The issue is then why doesn't the PS2 memory cards have the same kind of compatibility as PS1 cards?

The answer is because they're structured differently; PS2 cards are internally (inside the case) different cards; even if externally they're structured similarly.

In that case, why couldn't they do something like have the PS2 capture save I/O data, convert it to a PS2 card friendly format, and similarly convert PS2 card data into PS1 friendly format?

The extra space a PS2 card provides (you can copy PS1 files over to it) is enough for me. What do PS1 cards go for these days, 5 bucks?

thats what i was thinking..

also. its not the price but the availability.. do they even sell ps1 memory cards anymore?

The ps2 could have just given ps1 games a wrapper to use such that the game thinks its saving to a ps1 memory card, but is actually sending the information it wants to save to the ps2 wrapper which translates it into corrosponding ps2 memory card calls and saves it to its memory card.

you can't do it the other way around because ps2 card data possibly contains more information than what was saved by ps1 games. In other words, the ps1 format might not physically be capable of providing ps2 games with the neccsary amount of space/structure no matter how you try to 'translate' it.

They didn't do it, possibly, because they would prefer people to have to buy more memory cards. (at the time of the ps2 release)

If you're really desperate for a PS1 memory card, you can probably find one cheap at your local pawn shop. I bought 3 VMU's and one 4X card for $1 a piece at one last year.

That would be awesome that PS3 memory cards can work for any of the 3 playstation if it's even possible.
