its all happening in a few hours. what sort of stuff is good to eat/drink? i'm guessing yoghurt, soup, icecream etc?

Cold stuff if possible. Nothing too hot. Nothing that makes you chew heaps. And don't use any straws.

Honestly it's not too bad, you'll be fine. It's over and done with pretty quick and you'll be relaxing afterwards.

hopefully :lol. why no straws?

Dry socket, basically the pressure dislocates the blood clots in the sockets exposing the jawbone and the nerves that used to go to the root of the tooth to the air. As you can imagine, this = pain.

Also don't smoke or anything like that either.

So the swelling peaked yesterday. The swelling isn't really noticeable though. Man, I went to work yesterday, and only took one percocet before coming to work thinking I'd be okay. It wore off about 2 hours before the end of work...god damn I didn't realize how much they were helping. It's damn painful without my painkillers.

I have 2 tablets left, so I called my dentist to fill me another percocet prescription. It's a relief to be getting another full prescription tonight.

Pansy :lol

I went in two times in a week to get 2 pulled at a time.

First time was by some weird asian doctor who I didn't think knew what he was doing. Stabbed me in the jaw 3 times, then a lot of drilling and pulling. Not comfortable, but didn't hurt. Ached over a few days, took the anti-biotic, but not the pain killers. Infections are serious business.

Next time I went to some weird dentist. Had to wait 40 minutes for his ass because he was eating lunch in Beverly Hills. He comes in riding a suzuki with these awesome shades, he then throws on a lab coat and grabs a drill and goes to work, still with the shades on :lol . (I was already numbed by the assistant). He had to be the most awesome dentist ever.

Again discomfort, but no real pain besides the ache. No stiches, no pain killers.

Was eating solid food in 6 hours.

Everyone kept whining and scaring me about it, but it was nothing.

Rather than starting a new thread....

I got back from the oral surgeon about 5 hours ago. The experience was odd, and the nitrous oxide gave me a very warm and fuzzy feeling. I was put under for the removal of all four of my wisdom teeth.

However, i vaguely remember waking up during one point of the surgery and hearing the staff comment on my movements. I don't have any associations of pain with the awakening, but it scares the hell out of me to think that during other serious operations a patient might just "wake up."

The pain isn't bad at all, but i'm assuming the vicodin has something to do with that. I'm pretty sure i was prescribed way too many, but the more the merrier.

Yay for GAF for having so many posts on this already.

^ Again, rather than starting a new thread, ill post in this one, it seems to be the most recent.

So, my story:

Yesterday, get REAR ENDED by a huge truck going about 40 while i was stopped at a light, I ended up getting my truck pushed into an SUV in front of me, my truck is totalled, and I was sent in an ambulance with my passenger (brother) to the hospital since we both had whiplash, and I had got hit on the back of my head by something.

so yea, that was the day before I was getting my wisdom teeth removed, which was today.

Went in at 8am, remember talking to the dentist for like 2 minutes, then remember stumbling to this waiting room/bed thing til my dad picked me up, then woke up in my bed, with a little drool/blood on my face :lol :lol

Ive been taking some hydrocodine + like 3 other drugs including muscle relaxers for my traffic accident, im all drugged up, and I think people talked up the pain too much.

I just watched an entire season of How I met your Mother, and only felt the pain once or twice, and its because I needed my next dosage of pills.

We'll see how the combined pain of the traffic accident + wisdom teeth affect me tomorrow, but so far, the day of, i've been fine. :D

Grr, its the next day, I slept freakin 14 hours and they feel WORSE haha

I guess they dont feel worse, as im still all druggin it up, but they are WAY puffier

i have a concert in a 2 days, this shit better be over.

I got 4 taken out 3 weeks ago with local anasthesia only. My lower jaw only half-responded to the novacaine, so I now know what having teeth cut up and yanked out feels like. The yanking's not so bad because it's instantaneous. But the 15 seconds of drilling sucked, though it wasn't as painful as the time I got my hand caught in a metal door. I probably could have asked for more novacaine after I felt the first one, but didn't feel like wasting another 15 minutes waiting for it to kick in.

I had a similar experience. My midget dentist doesn't believe in pussying around. He also doesn't believe in checking xrays :lol My roots were corkscrewed so as he was sitting on top of me trying to pull out my teeth, it felt like he was breaking my jawbone. After I told him that he stressed out and decided to just break the teeth off from the roots as the roots would come out by themselves or disolve or something. He also doesn't prescribe medication but gave me some vicodin because of the whole jaw breaking thing.

Got mine out last year and it was painless. I was terrified to get them out and shaking before they pricked me with whatever anesthetic.

I had really no pain afterwards and ended up maybe needing a third of my vicodin before my roommates at the time stole and snorted it.

When I had my wisdom teeth taken out, it couldn't have been simpler. Sat down in the chair at 9am, started counting back from 10, when I reached 7 the assistant said just to relax for another minute or two and I could leave. I thought she was crazy, until I saw the clock and it was now 9:45 and I could see my 4 teeth laying on the table. Came home, took 1 pain pill, slept all day and played two softball games that night....

Well everytime I've got it done, it was with local anesthesia and I never took pain medication afterwards.

The first time was a horrible experience because of complications where the surgery took an extra hour and the anesthesia was wore off near the end. My tooth broke apart so they had to get all the piece out.

The next time when I went to get my second one pulled they were telling me that 1 in 10 people have issues and you shouldn't have a problem. Then they looked at my file and said.. Oh.. You were the one. :lol

But luckly the second time was a cake walk and didn't hurt at all and it was quick recovery.

I had absolutely no pain first 1 or 2 days. On the third day or so my face swelled a lot and suddenly it hurt a lot. I would be comfortable for a couple hours every time I took painkillers, but that was followed by a couple hours of intense pain.

Maybe it was just intense cause I've never really had any other real pain in my life. But it was pretty unpleasant...

My friend had the same thing done about a month later. Didn't take painkillers, just a couple ibuprofun the first day. He never had any pain :/

My wisdom teeth are growing and sometimes irritate my inner cheek area when I eat. Might have to remove them this year if they start rubbing into my other.
My dentist told be to remove them about two years ago, still haven't. I'm waiting for the pain, baby.:lol

So I had mine removed....5 days ago. 4 teeth. 2 wisdoms, 2 normal. It's all to facilitate braces. The doctor said we can do 2 and then another 2 a month later. But I thought "Why would I want to deal with the pain twice? May as well deal with one big pain altogether."

It was local anesthetic around the teeth instead of the sleeping one. My boss told me it's probably better this way because if I feel pain then I can tell the doctor. The 1st-3rd teeth were fine and they got pulled out quite easily. The 4th one was the one where I started to feel pain so I told the doc to UP the anesthetic!! So he did and pulled the 4th one.

He then stuffed my teeth with a bunch of gauze and told me to hold it for the next 1 hour at least. If my mouth is still bleeding, he recommended that I stuff more gauze into my mouth instead of rinsing it with water because that'll just make them bleed more. I was mostly shocked because my lips at this point had swelled considerably. I looked like I just had a collagen injection.

So I took a taxi, making sure I covered my mouth the whole way through. Didn't want to scare the unfortunate people I met along the way. By the time I come home, my mouth was already full of blood but still no pain. I kept the gauze in my mouth for a full 1.5 hours while I was cleaning my house because I have a house inspection the next day.

Then the throbbing pain started....unfortunately the doc didn't give me any prescription and just told me to get some Panadol (Paracetamol) and bear the pain for the next 2 days. He lied.

Day 1: The throbbing pain started at halfway through the day. It was quite manageable with the Paracetamol although I only took them twice, IIRC. I kept my face compressed with ice every couple of hours as everyone suggested and I didn't use straw.
Day 2: The throbbing pain is now on all 4 area. Used more paracetamol.
Day 3: The swelling arrived. My face looked okay but it was so painful that I had to take the Paracetamol every 4 hours. It's especially painful because I also got canker sore probably due to all of the roughhousing the teeth-pulling work.
Day 4: The throbbing pain continues but now seems limited to the left side only. I'm just grateful that it's not sharp, awful pain. It's painful but I usually get 1-2 hours relief after taking Paracetamol.
Day 5 (today): The pain seems to be settling down (fingers crossed, knock on wood)....I hope so because 5 days without exercising is driving me insane.

I want to go jogging again today but do you think it's not a good idea?

Had all four taken out about four years ago. Half my tongue is still numb and if a potato chip hits my bottom right gum line, the pain sends me through the roof. Damn nerve damage sucks.

I had all 4 taken out but I was never put to sleep. I would think that it could complicate the process because you wouldn't know exactly when to swallow and then you'd choke on your own blood or something.

It was ok, but an hour into it they were fighting with this one tooth and I was getting pretty impatient.

they stuff your mouth with cotton balls because they need it really dry in there to open it up.

painkillers are for wimps. I still got my full subscription from getting my teeth pulled, I should sell em to other students. In anycase the worst is still to come, food stuck in the sockets =/

I just had the dentist stick a needle in my gums and have at it. I only got two out though. At first I had no idea what he was doing, but I realized he was scraping my gums off to get access to my teeth. Holy shit! I almost panicked but it went ok. I felt the pain though, when he was ripping my teeth out.

These needles never cover the pain, like when I got stitches on my leg, I could feel almost everything. When it was over, it cost like 100-200 bucks and I got no pain killers or anything and no stitches.

I still have my top two and I dont know if I want to go through with that again but I'd rather not have them. We'll see I guess.

Do the meds cause nausea? I'm thinking about getting two removed. There isn't pain, but it's starting to shift my teeth. But I don't do the whole puking thing.
