Copper IUD has no downside, but my doctor won't let you do it unless you've already had a baby because it's more likely to become dislodged if you haven't already carried a pregnancy.

Copper IUD can cause intense cramping during periods, extra bleeding during periods, and extra cramping outside of periods. With all IUDs there's a chance of the guy feeling the string-tips with his dick too.
That said, IUDs generally cause far less side effects than pills, even the Mirena one because it has a low localized dose of hormone. The Mirena can actually eliminate or severely reduce periods for some women. There is also no worry about having to take a pill every day and considering the lifespan on a single "install" (assuming it doesn't fall out) it can be much less expensive too.
And of course IUDs are one of the most effective methods of birth control.
