go to doctor get a note, phone up school informing them of thus incident see if they let you use a keyboard instead or something?

Yeah, good luck with that if it's your writing hand. Is the skin just red or did you get blisters?

Skin's red. And no; it's not my writing hand.

I've basically been using hand sanitizer anytime the pain gets unbearable. Lasts for a bit, but not very long.

Immediate application of cool water will prevent burning. The faster, the better. And keep at it for a couple minutes. Remember that for next time.

You might still find it soothing even now... Though, I think it's too late to actually prevent damage.

Take painkillers. Run it under cold water for 20 mins. GAF can wait.

I've taken the painkillers, and I've run it under cold water for a bit with no change. Plus, various places around the internet (and a friend) inform me that cold water is a horrible idea and it will only keep the heat in the skin. Also it's been like two hours now.

Running cold water takes heat away. This is what you are meant to do.

Ah, i thought it had just happened.

Cold water is your best bet then. Now...? No idea. Painkillers and possibly aloe vera. Just do not put ice on it.

Also, see above. Whoever says it is bad has no idea what they're talking about.

Kitsune, I have Neosporin, but not pain relief kind and no aloe vera.

make a paste of flour and cold water and rub it all over your hand then wrap it up with cloth.

No flour...

Whatever you do, do not ice it.

Do not ice it.

Learned that through trial and error. Huge mistake.

Hand sanitizer? I can't imagine that would do any good.

It's actually quite soothing.

Do cocaine

lol

Usually, the longer you put it under cold water (not freezing) right after getting the burn, the less scaring and pain you will get.
Now that it's been over two hours, make sure the wound is clean and dry, put a little bit of disinfecting cream on it (don't soak it) and put a solid bandage so as to avoid irritating the skin any further.
Take painkillers if it hurts too much.

Go see a doctor if it doesn't look good after 24hours.

Stick hand under cold water until pain goes away.

Cover it with nonstick dressing but not too tightly.

Leave blisters intact.

Pain medication if any.

Don't put any random junk on it. Run it under cool water.

You can cover your hand lightly with sterilized gauze and take painkillers.

I gotta say despite the advice in this thread, smearing random goop on a burn generally isn't a good idea.

Why the hell are you typing?

If you want any chance of it healing decently, you should have gone straight to a cold tap and run it underneath the water for as long as possible.

I've known it since my first year at school. Its basic first aid.

What the fuck at the people saying cold water.

Never, ever use cold water. Put it between warm and cold and then put your hand under their for at least 4 minutes.

If you use cold water, and you feel that your hand is getting numb without feeling, you are doing it all wrong.

Aloe Vera. I burned my hand at work last fall with coffee, and cold water combined with that goo killed the pain within a couple hours. Still had a red mark on my hand for a couple of weeks.
