So I'm taking it that Switch in dock mode probably won't support HDR?

I'm bumping this thread because I would like to know if there's been any talks about the new games like mario oddesy or yoshi having HDR support for the future, anyone knows?

The last Nintendo console with non-shit output IQ was the N64 and you think they're going to implement HDR? They've proven for two hardware cycles and two handheld cycles that they have no idea what good color range even looks like.
Pretty it's been tested that the switch lcd screem has a really good colour range calibrating. Scoring extremely high scores by the reviewer.

Glad I'm not the only one.

HDR in it's most laments terms is basically a broader spectrum of colors able to be shown on screen. So instead of just orange and red let's say, your screen could show orange red and every shade in between for more true to life colors. Since everything isn't just orange or red. Things can also get much brighter and darker.

I hope it gets patched in down the line with docked mode. OG ps4 also got it patched in and mobile phones can do hdr sort of.

right, I totally forgot xbox and ps4 vanilla got an hdr update,
I don't see why switch dock cant.

Anyone who plays rachet and clank or FFXV on pro in true HDR will flip, especially when you turn it on and off and see the difference.

Without hdr the games I mentioned above look like they have a rain cloud above the entire time.

HDR? Nintendo is known for cutting technological corners and relying on the bare standards.
What corners have they cut?

ps: switch outputs DeepColor (30-bit) to enabled TVs. It's another question if the dev APIs expose DeepColor render targets.

Even if you consider it purely a handheld, it's quite impressive.

So we can thank AMD for all the hardware inside the PS4Pro and XBox One X, right? It's laughably naive to think MS, Nintendo, and Sony aren't considerably responsible for what their systems are.
The Switch has the least customization of any console maybe ever. It's a bog standard tx1 with altered clock speeds.

I wouldn't say Switch is cutting technological corners at all. It's a very impressive device technically.

No built in bluetooth audio or ethernet support are pretty big corners being cut. The latter's omission is magnified thanks to wifi issues that have followed Nintendo to the Switch.

Any USB to ethernet adapter works fine. And it has bluetooth audio support built into the hardware (based on the FCC filing), just not in the firmware at this point. It's pretty clear the the OS/firmware is quite barebones and has room for improvement.

Someone needs to make a presentation explaining what HDR is to Nintendo but use Pikmin somehow.

This is not a joke post
although the HDR is simulated for standard RGB monitors - in reality this is how close
it looks when HDR is disabled.

I own the Samsung KS8000 and have a ps4 pro
turning hdr off makes Final Fantasy XV look this different.

Was rewatching the BotW Trailer and realized I hadn't heard anything about HDR mentioned. Man, the game would probably look even better with that fully utilized.

The hardware supports it, so there's no reason why it shouldn't. However, whether or not developers want to take advantage of that is another thing entirely. Maybe if people ask for it, they'll at least give players the option to turn it on during docked mode.

Thread title made my head spin, but I forgot that OG PS4 actually got this added...

It really blows that you need to buy a 4K TV to have HDR... I'd love to have HDR, but I'll never need 4K in my current home, unless the TV is 80+ inches.

Nintendo didn't even support HD until 2012. I don't see it happening in the near future.
The major difference is hd requires a lot more processing power and major inchrease in development cost over sd. The Switch already supports hdr by default and it can be enabled by a firmware update.

From my understanding there is actually nothing stopping this from happening, would just have to be added in a software update.
