On the Wii? I don't think so.Amir0x said:this doesn't make it more 'arcadey', it just makes it more simplistic and stupid. There are actual legitimate arcade football games to choose from, if that's your preference.

ah, that's cool. I thought some of the ideas of Blitz: The League on the 360 were pretty cool. Definitely liked the little I played of it more than Madden. I only played half an hour or so, though.bdoughty said:Still might be one. Blitz has been listed on the coming soon lists for Wii for quite some time. I am really sorry for 1UP because they are very entertaining and Jeremy Parish is awsome.
But 1UP should stop diggin their own hole.
It looks like John D was the only one there who knew what is going on with the videogame market.
Once they colapse i hope not to see them wondering what went wrong. It is soo obvious.

It uses the same engine as PS2 and xbox, so I fail to see how adding in improved controls can make them not recommend it above the last gen versions.

ok that is bad. I'm only going by my experience with 07 and I have to say I enjoyed most of the controls alot and never had bugs like that. They are pretty game breaking tho :-/jonezer4 said:The controls are the source of several bugs and frustrations. That's probably where his logic lies. There's a bug where snapping the ball will result in automaticly throwing it immediately, in addition to the fact that all gestures take literally 1 second or more to register online.
santouras said:I come from PAL land so I don't really follow NFL, but I got 07 for wii mainly because the controls sounded promising. I really loved the controls for the game, my biggest complaint was mainly that NFL is not my cup of tea, but the controls where fantastic. The two on two minigames on the other hand where an absolute blast, had loads of fun with that.

I don't think it's going to work, however. People are smarter than that. The main reason my dad doesn't play Madden is NOT because he can't wrap his head around the idea of an analog stick.

This gives me hopes! When I went to Walmart earlier today I was surprised to see that the Wii version of Madden was sold out. Don't know if they didn't order a lot or it really is that popular ... but then I was sad when I saw that they still had many copies of MP3 sitting there. So sad.

Beyond that, the lighting is really poor, and the center-field flags are victims of PS1-style framerate issues. Worse yet, the flags will blow from left field to right, nonstop, even if the wind is actually blowing in toward home plate from right field.
Outside of the graphics, the game flip-flops between being wholly gratifying and strikingly unpolished. The presentation is a perfect example: After bopping a huge dinger, there's no home-run trot, no replay; it just hurries to the next batter (it's particularly confusing if the ball barely makes it over the wall). On the other hand, if you stroke a game-winning single, players excitedly pour out of the dugout and give out more high-fives than Borat.
Sometimes, fielders are so deliberate that runners make it to the next base without a play. Beyond that, there's the oddity of the ball lacking any spin on it as it skips into the outfield. Very strange.
But that's not the only issue with the ball. There's simply not enough differentiation of hits -- there are way too many singles up the middle. And line drives that skip down the foul line often bend back into the field of play, as opposed to scooting naturally into the corners.
As for the hitting, while the button-based swinging works fine for the PS2, it shows some serious age on the PS3. The lack of right-analog hitting is momentarily welcome -- MLB 2K7 didn't pull it off perfectly. But pressing a button limits your ability to aim the ball to the right or left side. If you want to move a runner over from second to third, your timing has to be precise. Too precise.
In the end, The Show is a solid game, but where the PS2 (and PSP) versions are inspired, the PS3 offering doesn't give the same feeling of "real" baseball. It's a no-contest this season: For the best new-gen baseball, stick with the most beautiful choice: MLB 2K7.

If you circle a receiver before the snap and then play the replay, the circle stays in place; it doesn't disappear while he runs his route. It just turns into a big white mess.

You're making out the bugs to be a bigger deal than what they really are. Oh yeah, I'm with you. I loved 07 (wish I hadn't traded it in toward 08) and the controls were actually very well implemented. 08's controls are quite literally a step backward. I think a large reason for it, is they retooled them so they'd fit better with good old "Family Play".

I read about that big hit thing and did think that it was incredibly stupid for the 2 on 2 games. Pity, cause I was thinking about getting 08 mainly for the online play. Then I remembered that I rarely play 07 due to aforementioned PAL ness and stopped, hehjonezer4 said:Oh yeah, I'm with you. I think a large reason for it, is they retooled them so they'd fit better with good old "Family Play". They mapped big hits to just the wiimote being pushed forward, as opposed to both the wiimote and nunchuck. What this means is, every time you move your hand on defense, your player is going to dive toward thin air. The best is when you're playing 2 on 2, and you need to shake the controllers for a speedier rush count. Your player will try to do big hits into nobody the whole time, greatly diminishing your ability to actually put pressure on the QB. How something like that makes it to production, you got me.
